We've done footmen! We've sort of done grunts! Now, we have the archer! Is the bow as powerful as the sword? A bunch of you requested this one, but I personally think you focused on the wrong unit. I found that if you create a lot of units they can overpower the enemy by sheer numbers -- though they can easily be slain by an equal number of ogres. You can use the dragons or gryphons the same way to win a game against all units. Their weakness are arrows, however, so if the enemy figures out your strategy they will used massed archers and towers.

    Leadership is explained in the manual on page 19, so it's your fault for not reading it :P Half joking, but a lot of info came with the game. The only major mechanic that remains entirely hidden from the player in JP vanilla is PCC and skill proc chances. Modern translations make that stuff entirely transperant, which is just fine imo. There's code in the game for an in-game manual menu, but either they didn't have time or ran out of cartridge space to implement it. Would've been nice tho. At least New Theory reimplements it, which is highly needed for that hack tbh. Hidden events and surprises on maps are an entirely different story, such Mareeta learning Astra in 15 or one of the major ones for you being Linoan's promo in ch 21 church. As for why 22 is the way it is, the entire point is to make the enemy feel insurmountable. The player might also have encountered Saias earlier on A route, so he doesn't come out of nowhere. Also, the optimal warpskip of this map is a 2 turn that gets the Warp and Rescue houses, and massively improves the reliability of killing Cohen,so this map actually has more useful stuff on it than a lot of other ones in the game. 32:08 Sara 😭 At least the game lets you expirience what a trained Sara feels like... From the other side. At least she's extremely fun in reverse boss recruitment. 33:51 Even as a reanimated corpse, her hatred for the cult she was raised in compels her to screw them over. Afaik, this happens if you Berserk the first enemy in the enemy list of units, since the status staffer AI only checks for allegiance on that unit and starts viewing the rest of the enemies as valid targets as well. 37:33 😈 Tbh, most of your kills against Canis seem pretty lucky, since she has a 39% chance to just not die in any given combat. 39:22 Sleeping/Silencing the deadlords is prety much the best way to deal with any of them. Except for Porcus, because his thief AI will just make him steal items from enemies endlessly, and he'll even generously move off the seal for you. Btw, Sleep Swords and Blizzard don't need to damage to put an enemy to sleep, enemies on thrones and gates are just entirely immune to status effects afaik. Did you entirely run out of warps and rewarps by the point you first reached Veld? If could warp in Orsin and Ced or rush in with them, while sacrificing the others to stone, I think it'd be possible to kill the dark mage in front of Veld with Orsin, have Ced stand on the magic tile and the entire room will just die to him. Well, whatever the case is, I'm really glad you managed to persevere. 47:57 Maybe that's why I like very few modern games nearly as much as I like FE5 lol I dunno what you exactly mean by "balancing", but scrolls allow you to make basically any unit good, not to meantion their crit negating, and there are plenty of characters that make the game very reliable to beat. The SS rank ironman has a pretty low chance of failure, and even SSS 0% growths can beat 24x, which is considered the most BS chapter in the game, in 3 turns without Ced, just using Galzus supported by an untrained Mareeta and a promoted Sara, thanks to her Wrath and 17 base magic after promo. Also a bunch of (Re)Warp and Rescue uses, but still. The game is pretty unfair to a blind player tho, no arguments there 😅 I just love casually ironmanning Thracia specifically for some reason, having my favourite story and some of my favourite characters on the franchise certainly is a factor, although staff warfare in all its forms is probably my favourite part of the game.

    • @redwings13400
      @redwings13400 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, my bad. I really should have learned Japanese and bought an original copy before playing this game, just so I could read a manual xD. Oof, Linoan's promo was in the chapter 21 church? I visited that church but not with Linoan. Was there any dialogue that would have let me know that? That's fair about chapter 22. I think the idea was a good one, but the execution was really bad. Even if they had explained leadership stars, I think it's a pretty genuinely terrible mechanic the way it's implemented. Just making the enemy have high avoid stats inherently makes maps a lot more unpredictable and harder to control, which I think is something that should be used sparingly in general. That's one of my biggest issues with the forest chapter too, it's like that fog route in pokemon dpp where you just really have no control over whether things work or not. I think I would have liked leadership stars a lot better if they had just boosted more stats by less, instead of just focusing on hit rate and avoid. I'm fine with difficult chapters, I enjoyed Thracia after all and I'm one of the few who really likes Three Houses Maddening mode, but difficulty through everything having high avoid isn't the way to do it. I died to Canis a lot, haha. I eventually found that attacking her with Orsin was a terrible idea, but that Orsin was pretty consistent at winning the fight if he let Canis attack him instead while he was at full hp. That guaranteed crit on counterattack was so broken. I honestly forget whether I had warps and rewarps left when I reached Veld. Either way my savestate was after I had already committed to sacrificing my entire army, so by the time I realized I would need to do something different, it was too late. I think by balancing, I don't necessarily mean how difficult the game is, but instead just... everything in Thracia felt either broken or useless. Like, staffs were so absurdly overpowered, they were fun, but there's a reason why no other fire emblem game makes them this utterly insane. Characters with personal weapons were so much better than characters without personal weapons, and some units were blatantly insanely op, and some felt completely useless. The difficulty curve in this game was all over the place, some chapters being pretty easy and others being complete nightmares. Scrolls are a way to further the imbalance between units, since having one of these essentially lets you ignore a core mechanic of the game. Basically Thracia just throws most conventional game design wisdom out of the window in order to give you an emotionally authentic portrayal of the story. Things like Xavier's recruitment is completely and utterly ridiculous. I don't even think this is inherently a bad thing, and Thracia makes it work, but it really feels so different from any other fire emblem games I've ever played, or really any other game I've ever played before. Basically, my view of Thracia is that it only works because the devs went all out on making sure the game design supported the story, and didn't let conventional gaming wisdom stop them from making any of their bizarre decisions. In a vaccum, most of Thracia's decisions are not decisions I think other fire emblem games should follow (capturing being an exception, that mechanic is actually genius and should return at some point). They only work because the game establishes that atmosphere so well to the point that it's consistent with itself, and that offers a gameplay experience unlike anything else. Thracia is so much fun because of all these decisions. It shouldn't work, but it does. Thanks for watching this series! I'm glad you enjoyed, and I appreciate your comments! I have no idea what I'm going to do next on this channel, but I will try to make it entertaining regardless of where I go! :D

      @redwings13400 No, there's no way to know about Linoan's promo lmao. The priest there just says something about imperials having powerful magic and gives you a Pure Water. The other churches in the game are not a hint either, Leif has to visit one in 15 to make the route choice, in 17A Sara is recruited in a random church on top of a peak with a squad of dark mages near it... Maybe they were her escorts? 🤔 And that's it. Sara is in the same base class as Linoan, but that's not a hint towards anything by any stretch. I mean, you can control leadership stars by deploying as many of your own units with them as possible, plus that's what makes Saias the better recruitment option in an optimal run, his +6 hit/avoid over Ced is just worth it, unless you're in dire need of a powerful combat unit. It's a genuine reward for recruiting Xavier, in addition to him being a good endgame filler with the Brave Bow and gives you reason to deploy someone like Glade from time to time as well. In 22 the game gives you a Warp staff in the house closer to the ballista squad, and along with Cohen's comments on how Saias must keep himself alive and away from the brunt of the fight at the beginning of the map, plus Kempf the boss of his map escaping, I think there're enough hints on how Saias can be get ridden of. And even in the worst case scenario, he'll leave after 40 turns, which is a good enough failsafe imo. Orsin when he uses Wrath: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! Orsin when Wrath is used against him: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck. Tbh, the more games I play the less interested I am in "conventional game design" and the more I care about funni. Tbh, the most broken combat prf in the game is Grafcalibur and Asbel being available so early and easily snowballed into a bosskiller is probably the biggest balancing issue about the game I have. But that is also a major issue with a lot of FE games, frankly, Asbel at least relies both on Life Rings, hitting his growths and being trained to promotion (which, again, is unfortunately very easy). Orsin, for example, is frankly not that comparatively reliable when it comes to breaking the game entirely, due to throne bonuses and his incredibly heavy reliance on his prf (hand axes suck and Master Axes have pretty poor Hit) the Repair uses of which can go to any other weapon or staff. Fergus without a prf is probably a strictly better unit than him, because if you know his deal, he's much more useful in Munster, which is also way more important and irreplaceable than whatever Orsin can provide. Especially in the 8x skip era, which was Orsin's best map. Although I'm heavily in favour of even more prfs for all sorts of characters. As for staves, there's a reason fatigue exists and it's a major part of planning out runs and why most staffers have pretty low HP. Each rank gives +1 fatigue cost to a staff use, up to 5 with (Re)Warps, Berserk and prfs, so it's a major thing to consider. To get S drinks, you either need to play 14x or sell a bunch of stuff to buy them (or arena with save states I guess). I guess scrolls are an imbalance, but purely in the player's and their favourite blorbo's favour, be it to stack growths or not die to random chance, but it's also a strategic resource you have to manage depending on your bias towards a unit and having as many be safe from crits as possible. Also, can be reverse stolen onto enemy bosses, Ch 8 boss capture for 8x becomes very easy that way. Oh, and by no means am I trying to say Thracia is a perfect flawless masterpiece btw, ballista spam, B route and ambush spawns being some of my least favourite things about the game. I just find the fundamental design to be very interesting and fun, even if it breaks at times. Anyway, I think FE5 works, specifically because it throws caution to the wind and just makes the player go through an experience unique to its vision. There's a genuine strength to Kaga's vibes based design when there's a strong direction to back it up imo, even if it won't be for everyone. There's a reason there are people who only like FE4, but not FE5 and vice versa, or like Berwick but despise Tear Ring, or even like all of them. Although Berwick Saga is actually pretty meticulously designed and playtested, but it's also got a lot of quirks that feel like they're there to invoke certain vibes lol. Anyway, wall of text finally over. This was a very fun small series! Really enjoyed it!

    I lot of what you went through explains a lot of why I can't play games like this. It's one thing if I make a stupid decision that costs me. It's another if the game randomly BSes me with something I can't predict, or plan around, or in some cases just straight up RNGs me to death. I've tried to play games like this and it's always a struggle for me because I've accepted RNG personally has it out for me lol, hell I haven't even finished Baldur's Gate 3 because I get frustrated missing repeated +90% chance hits over and over again while my characters with 24AC are getting hit every turn by trash mobs. IDK what I did to anger RNJesus but he hates me specifically and it is very very personal. I gotta say I'm amazed at your persistence, there is absolutely no way I would have spent so much time on those last missions let alone restart after that fight between Veld and Leif. You def get my sub for that lol.

      Aw, thanks! Games like this are definitely a matter of personal taste, I don't think Thracia is for everyone. I find the overall experience is just worth the frustrating moments, and in the end, I really enjoyed the game, but I can definitely see how others might find the game more frustrating than fun. There are definitely blatantly unfair moments in this game that you really can't play around without knowing they're coming. I find that I can be extremely persistent in a game, if the game earns it. If the puzzle is fun enough to figure out, if the game locks my brain in to thinking about how to get around the roadblock, if my mind becomes addicted enough to want to solve it, I'm much more likely to continue trying. Thracia earned that addiction from me, but man it was close for that final level haha.

      @@gyppygirl2021 Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed! I have a theory that people think endgame fire emblem is easy, not because it actually is easy, but because they play the early and mid game in a way that makes it easy. If you reset every time you lose a unit, you are inherently playing in a way that makes early chapters much harder (not losing a unit in any chapter is hard, especially in a blind run), and you’re also playing in a way that inherently makes the later chapters much easier (having all your units for late chapters makes them a whole lot easier). Early fire emblem wasn’t designed thinking that players would reset every time they lost a unit, so there’s a disconnect between the way the devs perceived the difficulty and the way players end up experiencing the difficulty. Late game fire emblem is actually really hard… if you play it as the devs envisioned you’d play it. The way most people play it though, late game fire emblem is actually pretty easy, but that’s only because of a choice players make that the devs didn’t expect when designing the game.

      @@redwings13400 That is probably the case, yes. The aforementioned Idunn instance is a borderline exception because you're basically handed the tools to deal with her before you ever get to that map, but there's still the issue of resource management and not letting the Binding Blade break before you reach her. They probably worked around the idea of you losing units until at least the 3DS era. lol

    I was completely right about how the Sara recruitment was missed, though at 9:23 Leif being literally 1 tile off from recruiting her is certainly funnier than the usual situation I've seen. On my own blind playthrough I just assumed she's recruitble, becuase she just randomly has Wrath, Miracle and Paragon, which is definitely not the usual unarmed enemy cleric combo. Though ofc I wasn't ironmanning either, so I was also not in anywhere near as a desperate situation as you were in here, so laser focusing on Restore is understandable. All that to say, don't listen to August in this instance and just go A route lmao. He himself admits that his plan was stupid in 17B iirc, so yeah. Master swords are no joke, especially with crit=Skill and crit dodge=Luck/2 and without scrolls. That 10 crit means even Leif with 20 luck would've had a 10% chance at minimus of dying without Nanna support, which... Yeah. That ballad singing section was wonderful! Fun fact, that's something that was entirely added by the Project Exile translation and kept unaltered for Lil' Munster. Also kinda weird that Sara's theme plays for it, though the tone fits, I suppose. Finn was definitely saved by a billion Miracle procs there. That's the only way he survived for that long. But unfortunately the only way for Miracle to even remotely approach FE4 reliability, he needs his Brave Lance, since with it he has +30% chance to just not die, which caps at 90% total with 20 luck. Yeah, this is a very tough situation. Dunno if soft ironman rules are a blessing or a curse 😅 Still, I saw a JP guy beat the game with 6 units by endgame and he was so desperate for combat units as to make a pretty frail Sara hopefully avoid/Miracle tank Reinhardt and kill him. So Thracia gives some room even in absolutely desperate situations.

    • @redwings13400

      All I needed to do to recruit Sara was to just speak to her with Leif? Hahaha, oh man, I had no idea, I figured she was recruitable somehow but didn't actually know how. Either way I was so focused on restore that I just did not see her as a human in that moment, just as a way to avoid losing my entire army. Haha, yeah, the forest was definitely the wrong decision. Definitely an entertaining level from your perspective though, it was probably the most scrappy, on edge level of the entire run, between the poison chipping my units down, having limited heals at the time, and the forest making it very hard to position my army. I wanted to get out of there from the moment I entered. As much as I hated the level, I gotta admit the way I played through it really fit the narrative and story of the game. In retrospect, I probably should have given Leif a scroll, but in the semi-ironman ruleset, losing someone like Orsin is actually much worse than getting a game over. So Leif died a couple times as a result of my decision to give other units scrolls over him. Aww, thanks, I'm glad you liked the singing! I absolutely loved that little easter egg in the game. This was a later addition to my script, originally I was just going to keep the original audio/video in there, but then I asked my friend if she wanted to sing it for me, and she agreed to. She did such a good job and I'm really happy with the way it came out! I'm also glad that there's a Fire Emblem TCG with shockingly incredible artwork, because otherwise I'm not sure how I would have edited that section. Ooh, I forgot that Finn had miracle, that makes a lot of sense! As this was happening I was amazed he lasted so long. Soft ironman rulesets are interesting because they're usually self-balancing. If you're in a terrible situation, you get a lot of game overs and can learn the level. If you're in a good situation, you usually beat the level but might play poorly and lose a couple units in the process. It's not perfect, but I really like this method for playing blind runs (or playing FE in general), it makes the game super intense all the way through because of that inherent balancing factor. Thanks for leaving such a detailed comment, I loved reading through it! Part 3 comes out next Saturday, which will be the last part of this series. I'm glad you're enjoying my misfortune! :D

    This is gloriously scuffed. I love runs that go horribly, but still manage to make it through. Part of why I love ironmanning Thracia. As a massive Sara fan (my favourite character in the franchise), it's kind of... flattering for her and Safy's names to get confused, I guess, since Safy is the best unit in the game. Funnily enough, in reverse recruitment, they replace each other. I'm also hoping Sara doesn't die horribly, because she left such an impression on you that your brain put her name to the forefront 😅
