Buckingham ? So I’m guessing the price will be about 4 grand
Thanks for testing it out! Looked at it at expo but didn’t really get a chance to play around with it. As long as rope diameter is within the specified range on the throttle, it’s good to use correct? It’s not constrained to a list of ropes like the akimbo?
Device looks solid to be honest. Curious about SpiderJacks new Blackbird as well. That looks a bit more bulky though which was my main gripe with the ZZP / Chicane setup with the obvious exception of not being midline attachable. I know Reg's new device is supposed to drop this coming year which should be really nice too.
This thing looks dope af, i love that it's midline attachable. Is there any info on a release date? I'd love to know when ima be broke.
@@RVYGUN April 2025 is the release launch.
❤ such a clear systematic approach to showcasing the V rig with various gear and set ups .. and on the ground where it's simpler to comprehend. well done I'm glad TH-cam brought you up 🎉 I've subscribed
Needs a pulley on the bottom
2:58 yo that is a freaking badass setup dude, nice! 3:36 whatttt and it’s a knisi??? Too fire 🔥🔥🔥 8:45 it just keeps getting better, camp gyro lanyard! 🤯
😂 glad you are enjoying the content.
Is this available yet for purchase ?
April 2025
From what I can see there is no friction adjusment dials like on the akimbo or rope runner. is that true?
There is one adjustable bollard for single rope to double rope. Other than that the top two pivoting cams are self adjusting.
Def a nice saddle plenty hooks
I'm pleased with it for sure. And yes. Soo many transporters. 😂
When will these be available?
April 2025 is the word.
Why is the rope gay?
That is some beautiful rope! What brand is it?
Right?! It's Yale Bifrost. Pretty sure it is a Wesspur exclusive. They used to have a promo with Bifrost/Nordic inspired tshirt when you order it. It's an 11mm Kernmantle rope. I love it for Single rope.
Can we see the 'action' of the mrs/ddrt to SRS/srt switch, please?
th-cam.com/video/B-TqV5jfnQ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OMhGkao5WkM6bvZa
Follow the link I replied with. It's 30 minutes of video of me climbing and swapping from single rope to double rope. 👍💥
It's pretty that's for sure!
Why not use the revolver on the secondary attachment instead of on your harness? I use Richard Mumford's Wrist Rocket with a revolver at the bottom for pulling back in. Eclipse right onto the climbing line above the device and pulls super smooth. And without the locking lever on the cam It's really easy on easy off.
@jjunier1734 ill have to see if Rich has a video of the wrist rocket. Otherwise I understand what you are saying.
So we might have a battle between this Throttle and whatever the Reg Coates descender will be called? I hope one of them handles 250# better than past options.
250 is a tough number for many manufacturers but i agree there needs to be more options or adjust ability for larger gents.
I’ll be curious to see how it performs on a rope with a little pitch or sap 😅
Josiah, seriously. So many people want to know if it gums up like the Akimbo. Considering dunking it in melted pitch I've collected for fire starters and then running it. 🤔
What is the WLL rating on this device
I was told but I don't recall. I'll see if I can get an answer for you tomorrow.
Funnily enough you don't hear this much in Europe.
Out of all the new devices coming out this year this is the only one that seems worthwhile. I run TazLov3 on 11mm rope and I don't think I'll ever go in a tree without one. Descending on a tensioned rope saves me so much time otherwise spent limbwalking. It's such a game changer and nobody talks about it.
It’s definitely a game changer. Glad to see more people exploring the possibilities with it. I don't see the TazLov often out here.
what lanyard are you using?
arbsession.com/camp-gyro-lanyard.html?srsltid=AfmBOorImhhjlZc9nj_qde4gP-A2MDSNP6_KxcvHJ8Lx4lFbtULKd7YV
This one is the CAMP Double. I always climb with two lanyards. Either the Double or a custom one with two ART positioners
Me and the lads are all super excited for this device. I personally think this device COULD be the next big thing, basically a revolution in the climbing game…but… One thing I did notice in this video is the friction while tending on DRT. I climb normally on a spiderjack 3 wich self tends insanely well. For me, this device needs to be basically 100% self tending in DRT, like the spiderjack 3. Is there any word on improving this?
There is friction yes and yes it is being addressed more. The one I'm climbing on in the video is not a production model. Still in the final testing and tweaking phases. Friction is being addressed and some items are being reprofiled.
When do you find this useful in tree work?
I used it alot as a stopper knot on spliced hollow braid slings. It's generally used to build a soft shackles.
@@Arb_King Also good for opening up can of whoop ass!
Nice demo, it looks pretty decent, to be fair. It's nice to see replaceable wear bollards, and I was wondering about that. I ended up getting the vertec. It's nice, but overall so far bit disappointed with it. Need more time on it, but in double rope config, it isn't great. I would say throttle functions slightly better. I normally use Hitch Hiker xf, which is brilliant in both, and vertec is my first mechanical and not overly impressed so far😂.
The Vertec and RR has a place just like everything does. The Vertec has improvements over the RR and RRP but I hear what you are saying. Im also looking for to ART and their Blackbird...it's a ways a way but should be something different.
@Arb_King yeah Reg has his device, coming too. Blackbird looks interesting... though that is like a lever that you pull by the looks of it.
Hey, very nice demo! Will it get the "CE" attestation for europe users? Thanks!
I was told 8-9 months after US release they should be receiving the CE certification.
Does this device need to be set up for friction like the rope runner or is it automatic and tooless like the zigzag. Thats my biggest issue with the rope runner is the potential for operator error and the device not holding. Thats why i like the zigzag, it just works! Id be really interested in using this device if it automatically sorts the friction out! Looks to be very smooth and great for both drt and srt with acceptable cons in both set ups! When will this be available in australia is it available for purchase now?
It is scheduled to launch in US in April 2025. The two pivoting cams at the top allow the device to be mostly auto adjusting. There is one adjustable bollard at the bottom you use to switch from SRS to MRS but other than than it is self adjusting. I have another video on my channel where I go into more detail on that specifically. Thanks. 🤙
I'll check that out, thankyou
Maybe after some reps putting that rope in and out of the device will get easier, but that was the biggest gripe me and many others had when messing with it at TCIA EXPO.
There is certainly a trick to it. Once you identify the trick it's super easy. I took a few laps around the block on the struggle bus before identifying how to remove it from the rope and not the rope from it.
I need a xsre kwicklock with captive bar
Sweet little carabiners.
Thanks for the demo, super interesting looking device. Curious how it handles sappy ropes, as that seemed to be the big weakness of the Akimbo.
Me too. The sap isn't running right now in the PNW so i don't have a ton of opportunities to get it sticky. I have some fat wood saved, I suppose I could render some down and dunk the device in it and see how it goes.
@Arb_King I have a 60-foot fir tree I'm taking down that is flowing sap all over the place if you want to give it a try. I'm in Cornelius, OR. if your interested.
Great video! Answered several of my questions. Looks like an interesting device for sure. Although I still think they missed an opportunity by not calling it the Buckimbo. 😅
Lol i love the Buckimbo. Told them they should have call their big shot the "buckshot" but they said no. Glad I answered some of your questions.
I am curious on how this device will work with SRS with a 12.5mm rope.
Right now I'm not sure. I don't have a static rope large. The biggest i have is teufelberger Xstatic. Are you running tech 125?
@ I have a 12.5 line I use for SRS. I use it both in my Rope Runner Vertec and Zig Zag with the Chicane.
Thank you
Glad you found it helpful.
Can you drag your tail with this device?
Yes. Rope diameter definitely plays a factor. Right now it prefers 11mm rope. There is a break in period I'm not all the way through yet. It's my understanding the final model will have less friction making that easier.
Thanks for sharing! Definitely tells me everything I need to know. Looks every bit as annoying as the rest of the SRT devises. A well set up prusik and rope combo just out performs in every single way. I did somewhat like the zig zag but there were quite a few things that I didn't like as much so as much as I love getting new shiny toys I keep going back to the OG set up.
Yea, can't beat a hitch climber pulley and a VT right.
@@Arb_King I have been on the knut for like 7 or 8 years now from the VT. With a short hitch cord it responds very much like a zig zag. I liked the VT but found it needed more baby sitting if I wanted to run it with minimal wraps for the least amount of friction. Also, the knut stays tied if you take the hitch climber off.
@troyerthedestroyer knut is good, and the arbhitch if you haven't tried it. I find the vt fast and consistent for my climbing style. But the arbhitch with Courant Pheonix is proving to be very nice.
@@Arb_King Do you mean the arbsession hitch? Honestly it doesn't look quite as good as the knut at breaking the knot open. I feel like a lot of people overlook the knut because most people run a little longer cords. 3 wraps, 24" beats even the zig zag IMO
@troyerthedestroyer yes I'm talking about the arbsession hitch. I run a hitch breaker. I make them too. Do you run one of those?
Great demo, thanks! I mostly use the Akimbo in double rope and thrilled to see the upper attachment point on the Throttle. I’m an older novice climber at around 230lbs, so I really like to try out different devices to see if they help me feel less like a beached whale in the tree, lol. The Throttle is looking to me like it could be the most versatile device so far. Would love to rock that as my main device with the Akimbo as my compact secondary. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving! It is definitely versatile. Right now, with my 175 it has a sweet spot that I'd be curious to see if that gets bigger or smaller based on weight? And yes, being able to connect back is a win, I totally agree.
Very nice! Do you have any idea how much it will cost? Thanks for the demo!
As of right now target MSRP is $449
@@Arb_King It's a beautiful piece of work! Hey if your rigging limbs down that you walk way out on do you just sit down on the limb or try to tie and saw everything standing? My daughter has a 5 ft Live Oak with gynormous long heavy limbs jeapordizing her house and her neighbor's.
Beautiful! When is the release date?
April 2025
Do you prefer these over the mechanical devices?
Personally, i really like my hitch climber pulley setups. There is not a tree i cannot do with a hitch climber pulley. I do like mechanical devices but if i had to choose one thing, honestly it would be the Hitch Climber Pulley system.
@@Arb_King Thanks! That helps a lot! I was looking at getting the ISC Apex with a Chipmunk tether. So far all I have used is a blakes hitch.
Thank you for introducing this new device. It looks like I’m not the only climber wondering why there isn’t an MRS tending Akimbo-like device. At the moment, I’m daily driving a hitch climber, zigzag, and chicane. If the throttle is pitch tolerant, I’d be interested in trying one out!
@timeorspace it's interesting and is proving well on small diameter rope. I'd like to speak to your question about "pitch" tolerant but I'm afraid I'd have to ask you to clarify what you mean as it's not a term I'm familiar with. Thanks
@@Arb_King The pitch I was referring to is pine sap, which can jam up many climbing systems. Devices like the zig zag and unicender allegedly resist jamming up on sappy ropes. Since my first comment, I’ve had a few more questions surface in my mind: I would love to know if the Throttle can tend slack by pushing from the bottom in SRT mode, instead of pulling from the top with a neck/chest tether. I ask this because I’m odd and like to extend my harness bridge to foot lock ascend on a single line. Thirdly, can the Throttle function in a dragging tail setup? This involves threading the rope tail through a union & securing back to bridge with figure 8, split tail, hand, etc for quick & retrievable stability & positioning or for controlling a swing.
Definitely would like to see both double rope and single rope setups in action
It's gonna be a bit before i have time to shoot in the tree footage but I've got it planned. 👍
No I climb with an akimbo buy really would like to test this out
I like the akimbo alot. This is different for sure. Still working on getting the friction just right with the Throttle. Looking forwapro April when it officially launches.
Basically a second version of the roc excotica akimbo
Some similarities on the overall shape but the internals are pretty unique. Have you seen anything on the Akimbo 2 yet?
Wonder if you can get it apart when it eats a glove.
Haven't been able to get it to suck in a glove yet. Where the two pivoting levers pivot and the rope enters, its pretty narrow.
Is it adjustable for different rope sizes ?
You have the one adjustable cam for single rope to double rope. Aside from that, the levers that pivot or intended to auto adjust for rope diameter and climbers weight.
Any ideas on CE testing?
I heard that it’s not planned for the near future.
CE certification is expected 8-9 months after US release.
when you do an "in-action" video, can you find the pitchiest tree you can and show us how it does? this design looks like it might perform better than the ~other~ compact mechanical.
Pitch isn't running much in the PNW right now, but I'll see what i can do. 🤣
Don’t get your hopes up. Just ran my Akimbo on a sappy pine and boy was that miserable.
@Arb_King ill wait
@@NealZ31 that's the ~other~ I was referring to, absolutely useless on dirty rope. it's great for hardwood pruning, very smooth, but the akimbo is a delicate 🌼 🌸
@@jessebaccus but I still ❤️ my Akimbo
that push detent on the lower jaw looks spooooooky
@odieostrich7718 when the door is closed it will not operate, it only is operational for swapping mrs/srs when the door is open. When closed the bollard is locked into a channel
@@Arb_King understood
Probably going to have a heavy price tag. I was going to get the roperunner pro but i might hold off till April
@NickTaylor-lm1lv April is the expected launch date and it should be pretty competitively priced.
Definitely an akimbo knockoff
@DavidEstermyer it has some unique differences that are unlike the akimbo. The two friction plates that pivot on the top end of the device allow it to self adjust depending upon weight applied and rope diameter making it quick to change from srt to MRS without having to adjust a second friction bollard. It tends very well on single rope and has zero sitback in all of my climbs so far.
@ easy transitioning would be nice
You could say the akimbo is a knockoff of the bulldog bone. There are only so many designs you can do with making work positioning devices for srt/mrs that are mid line attachable. I really like the look of the upper friction "plates", way different than anything out there.
@@Arbormedics Your are not wrong. You start look at all devices objectively and they almost all have the same top friction point, placing a "crook" in the rope. The throttle is unique in this context for sure.
Looks interesting. Do you have plans to make any content showing it in action doing SRS / MRS techniques on it? Would love to see it in action.
@youtubedan1443 i do have plans to shoot some content on rope yes. One man show and busy busy but there will be content coming yes. If you have specific questions feel free to ask.
@ I would be very curious to see what happens if you pull downwards from the tending point while on SRS. It was a big enough problem on the Akimbo that they made the tending point quick release because pulling down from that location on the spine would just drop the Akimbo down the rope.
