This is my favorite scene from the 1999 HBO film RKO 281... The movie is about a young Orson Wells trying to make/finish Citizen Kane and William Randolph Hearst trying to stop it... In this scene Orson Welles (Liev Schreiber), Herman J. Mankiewicz (John Malkovich), and Gregg Toland (Liam Cunningham) discuss Hearst's latest ploy to stop Citizen Kane, while Bernard Herrmann (Kerry Shale) Scores ...

    This ending scene, like many throughout the film, mimics a painting of the era. This final one reflects the painting of the defeated Napoleon in exile, looking over the sea to France, considering his failure.

    This is the first movie I watched Harvey Keitel on scene. After that everytime I saw him on a movie I got involuntarily scared at first instant. who was that guy, he was a dangerous strange man.. what was wrong about it.. It is interesting how his performance on this movie so stuck on my mind.

    No CGI folks ! They waited for that sun to come out.

    • @mredwardward
      @mredwardward 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luck. “ It had been one of the shoot’s several rainy days, but there was an inkling the sun may begin to peek out and, despite the fact Keitel gets vertigo, they were able to urge him close enough to the 700-foot high cliff to get the shot. The image, thanks to the rains, resulted in what are actually flooded fields in the distance and, just as they were in the middle of the shot, the sun, fortuitously, began peeking out from behind the clouds. Scott directed Keitel to turn to his right and then back to center before tracking back.”

  • @WackySwackyAdventure

    Ridley Scott peaked early. His first three films: The Duellists, Alien, and Blade Runner were all masterpieces. It's been a downward spiral ever since.

      I strongly disagree. Gladiator, The Martian, Thelma & Louise, Kingdom of Heaven (the director's cut obviously), American Gangster and even Black Hawk Down or Legend are solid movies. Maybe not groundbreaking like his first movies, but still very good ones.

    RKO stands for Radio Keith Orphem. The actor for Herrmann acts well, but Herrmann was a stocky man and quite imposing. The ending song is the ending music for Citizen Kane written by Herrmann. This movie was nicely done, it was based on a PBS documentary "The Battle for Citizen Kane", which had some inaccuracies...so this movie had some inaccuracies as well.
