Physical VFX vs CGI. in "The Empire Strikes Back" - from Hollywood's Master Storytellers
Someone said the script didn't say "I love you too," but instead "I'll be back." That sounds ridiculous but it's in a shooting script I found online.
Key piece of information missing from the description. What's the date?
James Earl Jones said that Kirshner's reading of Vader's lines was much scarier than Jones ever could be. Jones said that his reading was this, unquestionable authority, like you dont dare question him, he is THE authority. But Kirhsner? what few lines Ive heard him read? It sounds totally different, more like an unknowable evil, that you can't dare to comprehend
❤❤
except, carpenter, thats not the film, and if it had been that, it would have flopped, and you know it, which is why you had his reflexes thing, shown at the beginning, and then used to kill the antagonist at the end, if that hadnt been in there, it wouldnt be the cult classic that it was, so carpenter was being a flippant clown there.
Big Trouble In Little China was most pivotal for how the sci-fi action comedy genre would evolve. Thank you, John.
Star Wars only exists on the screen? 🖥️! How deflating !!
Amazing story
Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well tonight! Just wanted to stop by and say that God loves you all very much, an He proved it by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die and rise for us on the cross! Why? Because the Bible teaches that we are all sinners and rebels against a Holy God, who have broken His Law ( the Ten Commandments) and have incurred judgement on ourselves that will result in hell eternally. We cannot save ourselves, BUT if we've repented of our sins and surrendered our lives to the Lordship of Christ, we will be forever forgiven and receive everlasting salvation!
Only an artist could’ve turned Empire into the work of art it is. Lucas should’ve brought him back for Jedi at all cost.
is lori dying so thin

every version of Empire except the two 1980 cuts has cgi. But what is so different with cgi filling a greenscreen vs a matte painting filling a bluescreen.
I personally think VFX and CGI work best together. They both have strengths and weaknesses that are different from each other. So it is a matter of knowing what way will produce the best outcome for each scene of the movie. But Kersher sums everything up perfectly; that movies are about showcasing the characters - they should always be at the front. And you can't beat good writing, acting and editing.
It was supposed to be funny??? I've never, and I mean NEVER found it funny. I've always found it dramatic and poignant, especially the way he said it with a slight quiver in his voice, but I've never found it funny. It's just what a macho guy would say rather than going all mushy. As for Lucas' line. Terrible, absolutely terrible.
I actually like Never Say Never again, never cared for Robocop 2.
💋❤
You are the only one for me ❤
❤❤
You are beautiful❤
The best Star Wars movie EVER is made by this guy. Lucas made the lore.
Damnnn this was such a shit movie
no, no, no! he's got it all wrong! he should have had princess Leia barking orders at incompetent men and then charge out the doors in a t shirt, rush out and find Luke with her string woman powers and save the day! the fact that he let a male character, chewy, hog the limelight and be likeable shows what little he understands about filmmaking. luckily we're now living in a modern era and don't have to deal with prehistoric neanderthal shouvenistic directors like this anymore!
Too bad Lucas didn’t let Kershner direct RETURN OF THE JEDI as well.
Kershner declined. Lucas then held talks with half a dozen Hollywood A-listers including Spielberg, Lynch and Cronenberg before settling for a seemingly unlikely choice, Richard Marquand, a smart British filmmaker.
Thanks! I didn’t know that.
"mine! mine! ... or I will help you not!". ..."r2, let him have it."
Amazing. I’ve met Vangelis in Athens, extraordinary personality. God rest his soul 🙏🏻
Irvin is the obi wan to George’s darth vader, together they made a love child, Turd Ferguson lol Nah Empire was fun
Rip Irvin kershner
Long live George Lucas.

I was at that first screening at the Northpoint Theater in San Francisco- interesting seeing a movie that hasn’t finished post production
What a moment they created. Hollywood doesn't seem to care about character and story like this anymore.
I much prefer a production that telegraphs the work of the human hand.
Kershner was fantastic..all he says is true..that's why star wars films just fail over and over to actually deliver..major disconnect..and Lucas screwed up when his did it with the new trilogy..it lacked emotion.
My man..love kershner
When the Star Wars movies were made by true magicians who had such visions and knew how to entertain the masses. I miss that magical time.
Pure Legend!!! The best movie in the Star Wars universe!😍
El mejor de todos
Brilliant story
a good movie
I always found it kind of touching that Kershner was George Lucas's former teacher and Lucas convinced him to direct Empire Strikes Back. The student calling in a favour from the old master.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤....🙏🏼🙏🏼
Calls R2 "The Can"...HAHA!
The Spleen!
I loved the movie Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.
I loved Paul Ruebens in Batman Returns as Penguin’s father.
Rest In Peace Paul Ruebens. (1952-2023) We Miss You.
Rest in piece. Thank you.
