NEW SPORTS: CAN I LEARN TO SUP FOIL AND DOWNWIND IN ONE WEEKEND?
Listen to me talk to myself over a challenge I set. Trying to learn both sup foiling and downwinding in one weekend.
Disclaimer: Go chat to a shop about what gear is best for you. I have done a lot of prone foiling and dock start downwind runs so reading bumps already came natural to me. If I was learning to foil or sup without this experience I’d be on a completely different setup.
Filmed POV GoPro hero 11.
Spots: Lyall Bay and Seatoun
Gear:
-Board: Armstrong Downwind Perfomance 98L 8’2 by 16 3/4 wide
-Foil: HA1080, Speed 180, PM795 and 60 fuse. All set at 8 on the tracks. No shim.
-Paddle: Fanatic adjustable
-Weight: 83KG no wetsuit

One of the best sessions on foil to date. Riding Armstrong HA880, speed180,PM795. Time to get a smaller front wing. Thanks to Simon Croft for pulling out the long lens at sunset!

The session that things started to click for me. Nice to feel the last few months of practice come together. Footage from a mega 4 hour session of ideal conditions. Armstrong PM795/60F/Speed180 and switching between the HA925 and MA1225. Time to start working on some turns 🎥by Simon Croft

Super inspiring 💪 impressed it’s possible to stand on the 95L!
This song is fire 🔥
@@AboveBaseball such a tune
@@williamnovak. I know
No party waves for you William 🎉
Can’t beat party waves with other foilers
Could you film more dw nz runs?
That’s the plan once we get some better conditions! We have this massive high pressure system over the country which is killing all the wind
Is this nz?
@@cecelowell3387 yep! Wellington, NZ
How did you like the HA1080 for surf/downwind? I'm about to buy a new foil for the same (and also some pump foiling on flat water). Thinking of the 1080 or APF 1325 or 1675. I'm 70kg with some SUP surf experience.
@@lorensperber1882 for me I really like the HA1080 for bay run bumps and I wouldn’t go bigger but that’s because I have put some serious hours in on the foil. I also dock start this foil. However if learning to downwind and pump foil then the APF1325 should work well for you. It all depends on your level
Sick now you’re hooked
@@willhurd8283 no turning back!
Come back maui for some maliko’s
@@willhurd8283 will no doubt be back for some
That's a very nice board. 83KG for what height ?

If anyone can learn to SUP foil and downwind in a weekend it's you, but you're an exception!
@@whitecloud-watersports It’s just time on foil and having the right tools for the job as you know!
Good work, too easy for ya! Nice commentary
Cheers Hans! Chatting to yourself in the middle of nowhere is odd 😂 Been seeing some of your nice runs recently!
@@williamnovak. You edited that nicely actually. I'll have to give the talking to yourself thing a go though 🤣. I still can't get out enough as I would like!
Gorgeous
Awesome William
Thanks Darren 🤙
I went to new zealand
great edit, great foiling
Thanks Nick and a great filmer!
Man, what a rad session! Lots of power our there from the looks of it, not easy conditions to foil. You were killing it, looks like it was super fun!
Thanks Fluidfoil. A lot of fun but tonnes of power! Right on the limit for the setup I was on
Thats more skill than ill ever have 🤟
Never too late to start Ramon
epic!

_cool👌😎_
Totally sick edit 😮 and rad skillz. Great music choice 👌
Thanks Alan , appreciate your kind words 🤙
Nice pumping what Wing were you using and what direction was the wind coming from
This is the new HA1080 that got released today. Wind was cross shore
That is a great vid! Is there another video ready to be released?
Cheers Stephen! Plenty of sessions but lacking content right now. Let’s see what the El Niño spring and summer brings
Those were the days when we all windsurfed.... 😮
Pole dancing is rad AF. Legends.
It goes hard for sure
🔥
Yawn! Maybe make the music louder
jack前ですよね~
great!! when is best period for wavesailing Taranaki?
Tough to say. We don’t have trade winds here. The New Zealand Spring and Summer is a good time

Go, Kiwi's!!
Cool Gig!
Such nice spots, seems always side off :):) anyway great video. Thanks!
Indeed nice clip! And nice board, I have the same 102 ltr, still have to understand the best position for the straps, but overall I am happy… what’s your feeling with it?
I have the 82L and tried the 92L. It is a really good all round board and my favourite wave board I have owned. The 82 turns so well. I always put foot straps in the middle, fins in the middle. I assume 102L is your light wind/ big board?
@@williamnovak. yes indeed. Otherwise I have a RRD hardcore wave 88 L
Music of cemetery SORRY cannot watch
Love it!!
Great edit!
Nice one Novak! Nice to see poledancing is still alive too. Great Video. A+++
More proof wingfoilers are the ultimate shoulder hoppers
Epic varied conditions and great riding!🔥🔥
Thanks man!
The wing foiling bit - what beach location was that? Visiting NZ in November! Love the music too!
Nice one, loads of good spots around the country for it. The main sections were from Lyall Bay Wellington and Ahu Ahu Beach Taranaki.
awesome... and great sound track
Awesome vid man. Makes me want to get back on the water asap.
Cheers man! Will be good to have you back
@3:53...that is a cut back!
You are the kai lenny of wellington..... 😁
Amazing spot, fortunate enough to sail there whilst staying at the wavehaven... good but not as good as solid koomera patch for a surf..
Great video!
Hi, I am heading to the Naki in a few weeks, so would love to know where this was shot, and what direction the wind was coming from... thanks.
Heaps of breaks and hard to say when best. North west or South east head to Kina road. Sailed Opunake in a north west but only went that far south as it was windier down there
It was a cool surf ride. I yearn for it.😁
Killing it 🤘🤘🤘
