Is the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Worth the Hype? A Quick Review
This is by no means a super through review but it doesn't take this old boy long to figure out whether or not he likes or dislikes a motorcycle. I only had a limited distance to ride the new Hyper but I put it through its paces in all the right ways.

I`m definitively buying it!
You may have hinted at it? Did you notice any fueling issues, such as surging or unsteady throttle response in first or second gear?
I did not. From the get go there is a little need to feather the clutch and spin up the engine but it's nothing uncommon with these big single cylinder bikes. It is just more lumpy than anything on the low side. Otherwise once it was spun up and moving it felt awesome and had all the character I expected.
@@BendalltheRules Thank you!
Great video, one question, do you know, where can I buy the rubber of the sliding rear window of a Tacoma 2006 extra cab? Thanks
Stupid dumb bike. Where do such guys learn to speak from...!!!
I love mine so much!! Do you feel/hear a hard buzz fue to vibration right at 7k rpm tho?
I cannot tell you where in the RPM range I felt a bit of the buzziness but I did notice it a bit. Even with the counter balancers it's still gonna have those vibes more than most multi cylinder engines.
Thanks, great content! did you drive the KTM/GasGas/Husky and can compare these? :)
I have spent a bit more time on the KTM 690 SMCR and the Husky 701SM. Both are great bikes and I opt for the Husky over the KTM even though they are practically the same bike. The Hyper 698 feels a touch more performance oriented but not by a whole lot much. At the end of the day they are all really good bikes and you'll have gobs of fun riding them. The Ducati will carry a premium but the ducati riders electronics are very good and outshine anything the KTM family has currently.
I appreciate the "down to earth" feedback. I got a good idea of what its like from your hands on review.
Thanks! It's my pleasure to share my experience, hope it helps you. I've had a very uniques opportunity to ride a ton of bikes in my career in the moto industry so it's fun to lend some perspective when I can.
How does it compare to a Yamaha MT09!? How do you choose between them?
Completely different machines. The MT-09 is a really fun, everyday, hooligan bike, but if you get one, go with the SP and get the upgraded suspension. The MT-09 would be a more well rounded motorcycle for the average rider whereas the Hypermotard 698 has more of a specific use case in that it falls into the Sumo catagory. I’ve spent a good amount of time with the MT-09 and it’s a fun bike. I prefer and enjoy the Street Triple more, I feel it’s more refined for my riding style.
To answer your question more specifically, what kind of riding are you looking to do?
Get the MT09 cause it retains it's resell value, supermotos are super niche so low resell capacity. With the MT09 you'll still have enough money to buy the 698. But beware the resell capacity is terrible.
@@BendalltheRules riding that beats traffic congestion. A bike that is light to manoeuvre in tight spaces, even scale curbs, traverse grass, dirt. Basically I have answered my own question. Seems I need to get both bikes, because both have their virtues, in this regard.
Definately worth the Hype.. so much fun and so easy to take the piss and mess about. its a 330mm front disc The termi is too loud - its the airbox lid and sprint filter is what adds the power (as I’ve dyno’d it)
We had one with the Termi exhaust at the shop and while it sounded delicious, I’d sooner want an option just to get the added 7hp.
can you elaborate? i have this bike. So ur saying the full termi is useless?
@@emanuelepia6384 The full termi is fine.. but the upmap isn’t the best to unleash the full power. There are better ecu flash from deussen engines or bhpuk
I ride this bike so hard. Been doing food deliveries on it and its insane how much power and gas savings it has.
How many miles have you put on it? How has build and reliability been so far?
would love to ride it - looks fun. Keep up your work - appreciate it.
Thanks man. I’ll do my best and see what more I can contribute. Producing good content can be quite time consuming.
Nice vid.
Im debating of replacing or repainting with rubberized paint
This is awesome i have this tent and have been looking for something like this. What has your review been since installing? Still worth it?
It’s been good and I’ve had no issues. A slightly thicker carpet would be a bit better but it’s a good cheap hack.
How comfortable is the memory foam? Any other hacks on that? My tent is still on the crate in the garage waiting for me to install it on my tuff stuff 40 on the bed of my jeep gladiator. If anyone has any install advice please let me know. Should I get a more UV resistant cover made, for e ery day travel? Has anyone cusomized there tuff stuff 40 bed rack?
The memory foam mattress in this tent is adequate if you’re used to sleeping on a firm surface. It’s not amazing but it’s not bad. One of the best hacks that I have come across is the ExPed self inflating mattress which can be left in the tent. A lot of people swear by it. As for replacing the cover, I wouldn’t bother. It’s pretty durable and has lived up to it durability living in CA and now Texas
The old round ones are way better
Tf its a single cylinder 700cc damnn
helpful 👍🏼
what is this music? im hella stressed
Hahahah. You know I never thought of it. Just wanted something low key to run as background
so that guy can't sing
Hey.. Please I want to ask you if the new headlights were plug and play? Because I have thr round ones and I was to know if the brackets for newer headlights are the same... Thank you
All motodemic headlights are plug and play. That’s a big selling point for Brad (the guy that runs and owns Motodemic). My dual rounds bolted up to the stock headlight mount on the street triple and plugged in with the same connector. Motodemic also makes clean adaptors depending on the model. For example, if I wanted to do a single round, cafe style light on my street triple, motodemic has a mounting kit that makes it super easy.
Just put these on my 2016 STR. Love the look but now have a check engine light on. Did you have that issue by chance?
I never had that issue.
Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini Mv Augusta all treat their products like art
Yeah the Italians have that snobbery about them and it always works for them. I really liked that the Austrians designed a conceptual bike with Swedish design language. It’s still one of my favorite motorcycles in the last decade design wise.
Great eye on the camera work and cool music make for a nice video
Hard to tell by the video... but did you lay the carpet right upto the metal edge strip?
I did but also not as to obstruct any hinge points.
@@BendalltheRules So just around the perimeter metal?
@@BelfastBodger correct. It doesn’t overlap. I wanted to ensure it laid flush.

How tall are you in mtrs.?

@@BendalltheRules Thanks.
I worry the carpet will absorb moisture. I’m looking at Siless Liner with Aluminum Foil Finish. They use for Sound Deadening & Heat Insulation. This stuff should work well too right?
Great video, I posted it on our Coffee with Cars page. Note: Coffee and Cars is trademarked. That’s why we are Coffee with Cars.
Noted.
At $1k+ that's a hard no for me.
It’s your money and you’re free to do with it as ya please.
@inkman234 Some people get what they want in life, others complain about the price.
@@ArchimedeanEye Very profound and life changing statement. For headlights.
@@inkman234 Headlights are important to serious riders. This setup is better than any OEM setup at any price, so of course it's going to be expensive. No different to building a tough race engine, etc. These are not Costco lights bro.
Saludos desde Ecuador. Estaré en Los Ángeles este 22 de mayo. Quisiera saber la ruta del DGR en la ciudad para poder verlos pasar en algún punto, me podrías ayudar?
Hey I see you have a Team Empire special edition STR. I just picked one up and was just wondering what all the differences are between this one and the regular STR
Yo dude. Off the top of my head, full custom paint job, steel braided brake lines front and rear, power commander, custom seat by HT, K&N hi flow air filter, the stunt cage, and….trying to think of what else but that’s all that comes to mind.
@@BendalltheRules sweet! Unfortunately whoever owned mine prior to me removed the stunt cage. Do you know how much power is added with the power commander by chance?
@@user-ki8nw5ki5o I have the stunt cage but I removed it. It’s too bulky and heavy. I still have it but it’s in storage. I’ve used this bike primarily track days because it’s so perfect for it. As for added power from the Power Commander, it’s not mind blowing, when tuned and dyno’d it’s putting out about 112hp and 53 ft-lbs. it feels a bit snappier but still smooth.
Rain is inevitable. Riding in rain is not.
Yeah but it can be fun.
Looks slow
It’s certainly not. It zips along pretty quick and was a ton of fun to ride on the highway. I only had about half a day with the bike on top of all the filming.
Bravo. you created spendid see you later, Sam-🤘
Awesome vid and the food was outstanding!
I'm not sure what all the thanks are for. I assume this company sold you the tent and installation was included.
The installation was a courtesy and not included in the price of the tent. I like to take the time to thank and show appreciation to people who do good work. The team at GTFO not only installed the tent but answered a ton of Overland questions I had. That kind of service and time shown to me makes me happy to support a small business. There is no disadvantage in showing gratitude even if you are paying for something.
Great video, just wondering if this has sorted out the condensation problem? Thanks
It's helped reduce condensation considerably. I cannot say that it has completely eliminated the problem but its a good start and I think its a quick hack if you are using a tent such as this in climates 25 degrees F and above. Below that I would highly recommend an internal quilted insulation layer that mounts inside of the RTT.
Osv claims it’s only 100lbs. Is that right?
Yup.
Lovelly! Just for my own scale purposes and the chance to buy it some day.... how tall are you? I am a skinny 1,90m guy afraid of looking too large with this bike, even though it is the only one I am looking for to buy, unique looks :D Hi from Spain!
Im 6'5' (1.95m) so any motorcycle I ride is made to look like a pit bike. I honestly stopped caring about how I look on motorcycles. No one is calling me to be a print or commercial model for these things. Motorcycles are not made for someone of my stature but the Vitpilen holds a special place in my heart. It is a really rad bike and stupid fun to ride in any city. You will not be disappointed but you will look a bit big on the bike.
Does it add a lot of weight to the tent?
Its negligible.
Valimai thala bike🔥🔥🔥
Awesome video man. By chance, do you know if this tmbk would be okay to install on oem crossbars with 160lb capacity? I really like this RTT!
Id advise you to check all the load requirements. I have the factory roof rails and my crossbars are Thule Evo Wingbars. Typically the crossbar load is greater than the factory roof rails. The tent only weighs 110 lbs and pretty much lives on my Subaru. You should be good.
@@BendalltheRules Thanks Sam! You're the man brother!
Do you prefer the Svartpilen over the Vitpilen 701?:)
I like the way the vitpilen looks more but I prefer the riding position of the Svartpilen. It’s more comfortable. Otherwise they are exactly the same in terms of power delivery and suspension.
Went cross country in December camping in my RTT. Arrived in Pennsylvania exhausted and had to quarantine. Got around to opening it up in late March (still lots of snow and cold). Took the mattress out and saw a good bit of water (not just moisture, a 1/2" plus) that slopped around. Opened it up again in May, more water (not moisture). I had used the closed cell foam with mylar (will add the name when I think of it) + a mesh 1/2" condensation mat. I suggest anyone using this to regularly open it up, check on it and air it out. My condensation mat saved saved the mattress (foam is stained). By removing the mattress it put the canvas in the water and it is discolored. NOTE: I have an all aluminum roof top tent. LIkely subject to bigger temperature swings.
Do the ASV clutch levers fit better and not wobble up and down like the OEM lever. My street triple clutch wobbles and my front brake is ok ish.
I found both levers to fit nicely. I honestly cannot remember how the stock levers feel but I’m really happy with the ASVs. They perform great on the track and the adjustability can really be dialed in more specifically.
I don’t see the clutch switch tab on the website
Reach out to them directly. It turns out I was sent the wrong brake lever entirely. They remedied it.
