Three tunes that I wrote and put in a medley. I met three brothers at the DFW airport in 1995 who were musicians. They played fiddle, guitar and mandolin and were on their way back to Wales. First time I heard this tune my old friend Tommy Hughes was playing it on the courthouse square in Glen Rose, Texas. It was the 4th of July 1967. I liked it so much I knew I had to learn this tune. Over The Waves is a waltz I learned from Mr. L.T. Childress when I was 12 years old. He had a violin shop at his house and I would hang out there and play all his fiddles. This shop is where I met Norman and Vernon Solomon, Claude Henson, Red Steeley, Benny Thomasson and Dale Morris Sr. There was always fiddling going on there and a great way to learn from the masters.

Indeed this reel is well known in Canada. A great french-canadian fiddler named Jean Carignan has his own version: le reel du pendu. Carignan himself said that the tune is from Norway. I am not a musician, but I recognize passages In the norvegian tune called Fanitullen.
