Welcome to my channel. I upload mainly cover music videos... and drop an original every now and then.
DISCLAIMER: I am a HOBBYIST musician-only. I played in bands in high school and college in the '80s, and then took a 30+ year hiatus to focus on family and career. Forced early retirement at the end of 2020 thrust me back into music as a healthy hobby. In producing my covers, I use instrumental, karaoke and third-party backing tracks. If you want 100% live music, this is not your place. My covers are for entertainment purposes only. My channel is not, and never will be monetized.

Aerosmith - Dream On | Steven Tyler Vocal Cord Damage? ME TOO! 😜 [COVER]
The one crazy high scream in "Dream On" by Aerosmith can be dangerous to the vocal cords! Just ask Steven Tyler, who suffered vocal cord damage forcing postponement of their "Peace Out" farewell tour. Hey, he's 76 years old now, so it's amazing he can still even hit that note, let alone do his trademark screams for an entire concert!
Covering this iconic rock ballad brought me back to my high school band days. I had a blast faithfully recreating all the parts. It stirred up some cherished memories of band rehearsals in my basement, my drummer Jerry's log cabin, and of various shows. If only we could go back in time to those carefree days!
"Dream On" is a power ballad by American rock band Aerosmith, from their 1973 eponymous debut album. Written by lead singer Steven Tyler, this song was their first major hit and became a classic rock radio staple.
The album version of "Dream On" (4:28, as opposed to the 3:25 1973 45 rpm edit where most of the intro has been edited out and the first chorus is replaced with the second chorus) was re-issued in late 1975, debuting at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on January 10, 1976, breaking into the top 40 on February 14 and peaking at number 6 on April 10. Columbia Records chose to service top 40 radio stations with both long and short versions of the song, thus many 1976 pop radio listeners were exposed to the group's first top 10 effort through the 45 edit.
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song at number 172 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It was moved to number 173 in 2010, and re-ranked at number 199 in 2021. In 2007, Aerosmith would perform a re-recording of the song, amongst some of their other songs, for the game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith as the master track was missing during the game's development. In 2018, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. On November 29, 2023, Dream On surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
Background
In a 2011 interview, Tyler reminisced about his father, a Juilliard-trained musician. He recalled laying beneath his dad's piano as a three-year-old listening to him play classical music. "That's where I got that Dream On chordage", he said. Lyrical composition was completed when Steven was 14 years old. The song is also famous for its building climax to showcase Tyler's trademark screams.
In the authorized Stephen Davis band memoir Walk This Way, Tyler speaks at length about the origins of the songs:
The music for 'Dream On' was originally written on a Steinway upright piano in the living room of Trow-Rico Lodge in Sunapee, maybe four years before Aerosmith even started. I was seventeen or eighteen... It was just this little thing I was playing, and I never dreamed it would end up as a real song or anything... It's about dreaming until your dreams come true.

An In-Depth Look at my Telecaster | Danny Gatton "The Humbler"

One guitar you don't see often on my channel is my "Partscaster" Telecaster Relic. In this video, I give it some of the attention it deserves. I also provide several playing demonstrations, and follow them up with a tribute to "The Humbler", Danny Gatton. Also known as "The Telemaster", Danny Gatton sadly committed suicide on October 4, 1994 by self-inflicted gunshot in his farmhouse garage, ex...
Extreme - Hole Hearted | Nuno wrote it on the TOILET? [COVER]
มุมมอง 12014 วันที่ผ่านมา
Nuno Bettencourt wrote most of "Hole Hearted" while sitting on the throne! What came out was definitely not "shite"! He had just received his first 12 string guitar. Excited, he took it into the bathroom to do his business, and came out with a soon to be Billboard No. 4 hit! In addition to the 12 string, add some bluesy slide guitar, a steady 4 on the floor kick that does not miss a beat throug...
Van Halen - Dreams | Hardest VH song to sing? [COVER]

I have made 3 different covers of "Dreams" by Van Halen, never satisfied with the final result. Every time I try to sing it, Sammy's stratospheric vocals chew me up and spit me out. I should have just lowered the key a whole step (just like Sammy does now), but his killer vocal shines its brightest in the original key. This time around was much like prior attempts, but at some point, you just h...

Gary Cherone may have had a stint with Van Halen, but he will be most remembered as the lead vocalist for Extreme... and especially for their 1991 hit song, "More Than Words". However, it's guitarist Nuno Bettencourt who really stands out on this one for me! According to Nuno, he came up with most of this song sitting on a porch, alone with his guitar. It came to him very quickly, as most of hi...

"On The Loose" by Saga! IMHO one of the defining songs of the 80s... This was the biggest hit for Saga, a Canadian band that incorporated elements of progressive rock into their pop sound. Lead singer Michael Sadler wrote the song with his bandmates Ian Crichton (guitar), Jim Crichton (bass), Jim Gilmour (keyboards) and Steve Negus (drums). Another great keyboard-driven rock ballad by Van Halen. This track demonstrates yet again how Eddie did not need to rely on his guitar to make musical magic. Excellent rendition Sean! The vocals are incredible and grab a lot of attention, but the instrumentation and the overall vibe are really remarkable -- you absolutely nailed it my man! Just beautiful work my bro. 🤘💥🤘💥🤘
Much appreciated Mike! That vibe no doubt emanates from the very roots of its instrumentation. The chord structure is as much classical as it is rock! Here's a quote from Steven Tyler: "I grew up, under the piano, listening and living in between the notes of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Debussy. That's where I got that 'Dream On' chordage." 🎹🤘
Wow! The level of detail captured. 😮🤘And those screams. Amazing!
Thanks Deyan! Steven Tyler's famous Dream On screams are a doozy for sure! I had to stack them several times over to fatten them up (20 or so takes later, my throat was dry toast with no butter!), bump the low-mids at 250 to 500 Hz to sound less choir boyish, add a shite ton of compression to even things out... and finally crank the reverb to mask the imperfections (plenty of those! Haha). Geez, all that time and effort to polish a few friggin' tough notes! 😜 But nobody knows this drill better than you, right?! 🤗 I put those dry vocal takes at the beginning of the video for a pre/post-processing comparison (prob not doing myself any favors!) 🤘
@@seanmccaberocks dude that is work I cannot relate to, fortunately, as I’m no singer, but I can only imagine the pain! But I’ve heard every account of others who’ve done said work offer similar experiences, with the layering, EQ and compression tricks etc. Badass!
Well, I was more drawing a corollary to your meticulous attention to detail in recording guitars. 🎸👍
@@seanmccaberocks indeed, I think that’s a main reason why I’m a fan of your work; your attention to detail is so evident.
awesome singing Sean!!
Thanks for the compliment Rick! I had a bit of help from my DAW, VST's and good ole post-processing. Without them, I am just your average Joe karaoke singer (Just listen to my real, untreated voice at the beginning of the video!). Gotta love the tech! 🎤🤘
✌ On Q 🎸🗿
🙏 Thx for watching! 🎸

Yo sé que es una canción muy difícil, de todas maneras lo hiciste muy bien!!!!!❤❤
Realmente lo aprecio! 🙏🙏
This sounds great Sean! I have to ask you -- where are the microphones?? Haha, just kidding! 😂I love this whole production, even though there are no drums on it. But I see you did wear a Danny Carey-esque basketball jersey, so I guess you're excused, lol!😂😂🤘🤘💥💥
Thanks bro! Whaddya mean "...there are no drums on it"? Neil Peart would have a tough time with this one! Haha I was gonna hit you up to lay 'em down for me, but then I thought to myself, "This is a tough one with its tricky kick drum patterns, uncommon 4/4 on the floor (literally throughout!) time signature, and those occasional, yet precise tambourine and crash hits." Better to leave you with a more simple track like "Me Wise Magic"! 🤣🤣🤘🤘👍👍
Well, Sammy's insane helium vocals aside, this is such a challenging song to master. Fantastic work Sean! You are channeling Eddie! 🤘🤘💥💥
Thanks Mike! I believe the saying goes, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." (Emphasis on, "try, try again" if attempting to sing this monster in its original key!!!) 🤣
Loved this! Sean, is the theme music that we hear in this video and (and your others) YOU, I presume? Because that rhythm playing I’m hearing is SWINGING!
I just searched TH-cam for backing tracks in the style of Van Halen... and found this "SWINGING" Am jam, free for non-commercial use: th-cam.com/video/DoiZN3syU9I/w-d-xo.html
Well that was absolutely NAILED. 👏👏👏
Thanks Deyan! It sure is a fun song to both play and sing! 😀 I was thinking about giving "Rise" a go, but that one has your name on it! 😉
Fiquei chocada... Lindo... Lindo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍
Muito obrigado! 🙏
Sean, something about your guitar playing in this one is conjuring some extra energy and that raw-yet-melodic spirit of Sammy-era Edward. Also, you need to do a video about that Frankenstrat of yours if you haven’t already. 🤘🤘
Thx Deyan! After 3 prior valiant, but failed attempts to sing Dreams, I realized that focusing more on guitar by adding a few extra louder chunks here and riffs there seemed to help hide the folly of my ways. "Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses", right? 😜 I did make a little video of my Frankenstrat: th-cam.com/video/QAkrmj1mIfk/w-d-xo.html
Sean McCabe most definitely Rocks!! You are truly gifted if you can pull off Rik's vocals. Whew!! Thank you for sharing this!! Everything about your cover is awesome!! Well done!! Keep rocking!! Aloha from Hawaii!!
Thank you very much! I just hack my way through, take after take into the DAW. I think Rik might be from another planet? His vocals and guitar playing are non earthly! 👽

Thx so much! "Dreams" scheduled for upload tomorrow... Please check back! 👍
Well done Sean! Well you definitely nailed not only the look of the video, but the guitar and the vocals too! Amazing work my man. 👍👌👍👌
Thanks Mike! "Hole Hearted" coming next week. Stay tuned! 👍
Brilliant cover!!👌🏼
Thank you!! 😁
Beat me to an Extreme cover (albeit a different song)! As usual, this sounds great, looks great (love the black and white), and carries the spirit of those “two acoustic guys” who weren’t really acoustic guys. Love the ending too. 🤘
Thanks for tuning in Deyan! Speaking of different Extreme songs, I may get around to covering "Hole Hearted". My 12-String is starting to collect dust... or just be lazy, grab a dust cloth and take the easy way out?! 😜
wooooooowwwwwwwwwww!
thankyooooouuuuu!
beautiful cover!❤
Glad you like it!❤️
Super vocal great guitar ❤
Thank you very much for the nice comment. ❤️🤘
Sounds great but I think you might be singing it in a higher key compared to the original.
Thanks so much! Well, you are both right and wrong at the same time. It's in the same key as the original album version, released way back in 1986. Father Time catches up with all of us... So for the last decade or 3, Sammy has been dropping it down 2 semitones, e.g., his recent performance on The Howard Stern Show. He's 76 years old now, so it's totally amazing he can still sing some of his hardest songs at all, even a full step lower! 🤘
First of all, that Vidami device is really cool. Thanks for the great demo and the "peek behind the curtain." And wow, your playing on the cover is just absolutely fantastic Sean! The keyboards and guitars are so spot on... bravo, great song choice and you freakin crushed it brother! 🤘🤘💥💥🔥🔥
"He likes it. Hey Mikey!" Thanks bro! If the Internet, TH-cam and Vidami were available in the 80s, learning songs would have been SO much faster and easier. I used to fudge this one up on my little Casio MT-40 keyboard way back in high school... Those tiny keys were just too damn small for my fat fingers. 😜 🎹
Don't see SY's very often. I'm sitting next to a SY77. Cool looping device, haven't seen it before.
NICE! The SY77 would be a nice upgrade to my SY55 with its 6-op FM synth. Mine is more of a cut down version of the SY85. I am just glad it has aftertouch, some nice factory sounds and full MIDI specs. 👍 🎹
This is just brilliant! You sang it better than both Richie and Jon, FANTASTIC timbre you got!
Wow, thank you! TBH, I pulled a few studio tricks on this one. I put my DAW into overdrive, causing a VST or 3 to burn up before my eyes! ️🔥 I can't begin to hold a candle to my idols (like Jon and Richie), but it's always nice to receive such high praise! 🙏
@@seanmccaberocks You're most welcome! I absolutely mean it. Technically and tonally you trample both of them. Your voice is much smoother, cleaner, notes are very precise. The only thing they might have as an advantage is being more artistic, but that's up for debate..
Everybody is good, except that bass player 😂
He's no MA for sure! (but then again, who is?!) 😜
@@seanmccaberocks I just meant that he looks shifty and suspicious, unlike the singer and guitarists. I’d trust them with my wallet, but surely that bassist is up to something 🤣
Great job!
Thank you, and thx for the visit! 🤘
Cara muito... muito... muito bom tudo os instrumentos vocal genial parabéns 👏 ( Brasil )

YES!!! You absolutely owned this one, Sean! The only crime about discovering this cover on my phone is that I cannot crank its less-than-testicular internal speakers. And still love that OLP Axis and Wolfgang tribute! 🤘🤘
Hey Deyan! Thanks man! It was good to "dust of the cobwebs" after a couple months off. No plans to come back gangbusters with 2 covers/week like before. Burnout is a real thing. Maybe one cover a month or so. 👍 It's high time we did a collab?! 😉
@@seanmccaberocks definitely! I’ve got a lot of projects I’m in the middle of recording, but we need to discuss and decide on a good tune! Maybe get Mr. Conway in there also.
Fired an email off to you and Mike! There's one song we have all been itching to cover... and it requires your elusive TransTrem! Check your email, and let me know if you are down? If yes, you will save me some $$$. If not, I'm ordering a Steinberger! 🤑
Well, look who’s back after all! 🤘🙌 Just as I expected, and happily. After watching this twice, rather than comment on how much I enjoyed this foray into the slightly (soon to be more so) scary before and after A.I., I thought I’d point out some before and after A.I. revelations one mustn’t forget: 1. Sean still rocks! 2. Tom Scholz is still a genius. And the most critical A.I. revelation after watching this video… 3. A.I. 2024 vs. Bradley Delp 1976: Bradley Delp will ALWAYS own A.I.!
Your AI revelation #3 really hit the nail on the head... Ain't no AI ever gonna stack up to the angelic REAL voice of Brad Delp. Still, it's fun (and even FUNNY!) to mess around with... You should have heard what this same cover sounded like when I used an Arnold Schwarzenegger AI voice! 😂😂😂😂
Every time I listen to this I realize how elegant you play! Never Stop...
"Never Surrender"? 😉 Thanks for the compliment! 🙏

Thanks Mike! Too bad I didn't have a Toy Ray Gun like Steve Stevens to really nail it! 🔫 😎 😜 🤘
Awesome guitar and Vox, and hey..how bout a hand for that drummer!!!!
Thx so much! ...and you bet, they don't call drummer Mike Conway "Alex Conway" for nothin! haha 👏
I've been trying to find footage of this guitar for so long. I have the exact same one, but for some reason, the body looks different than mine? Sorry I don't know much about guitars.
Ahh... my axe is a hybrid! The body is a 1989 Aria Pro II Tex-35/B with a Telecaster-style body. I swapped out its original metal style headstock neck for an Aria Pro II Black Dog neck (I believe this is the guitar you have with a Strat-style body.) Since Jimmy Page recorded some of his most famous songs with a Telecaster, including "Stairway To Heaven" among others, I figured it would be fitting to combine the Telecaster body with the "Black Dog" neck to pay tribute to its namesake song. "Rock and Roll"! 🤘
@@seanmccaberocks I see, thank you so much! It was from a friend in Japan, and I've been trying to find information about it for months. Haha

Thank you for providing this historically significant information. Lest we forget. I read that Jay built somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 top quality instruments in his life, prior to a debilitating stroke in 2000. RIP Jay Riness. 🙏
Pretty wild what can be done with AI. Cool rendition of this tune Sean! 👌👌👍👍
AI is growing at a breakneck pace for sure. To be honest, it frightens me. I think I picked a good time to retire (both from TH-cam, and for REAL!) 🤣
intresting thanks.
AI is interesting, and frightening at the same time. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! I should have never sold my old Gibson Explorer.
