An unlikely set of units on Amtrak's Empire Builder- a colorful assortment at that. AMTK 203, AMTK 164, AMTK 333 1-29-25

With 247 delayed because of an earlier incident at Galewood preventing them from taking headroom, they still made the risky decision to send them north at the beginning of the Metra rush hour anyway. As if that wasn't risky enough, 2-148 got sent right into the madness right down to A5. Needless to say several delays were had, and some rare scenarios to be seen. Plus: a handful of passenger act...

Enroute to rebuild after years of sitting idle... one of very few CNW paint units left on UP's roster. This is the second to go for rebuild in the past year- one more stored Dash 9, plus the 6706 (which is still on the active roster) remain. With dispatch apparently unable to reach the UP, 246 was sent down to A5 with a KCS ACe on both ends of the train, and a CSX gevo in trail. Metra 500 at idle on the outbound not long after 246 is included at the end of the video too. KCS 4056, CSXT 5247, rear KCS 4041 1-27-25

Prefaced by the Metra outbound they were following. After 3 and a half hours or delays, the Borealis was cancelled... until they changed their mind (possibly influenced by the Empire Builder's serious delays). On a very bonechilling day, I toom up an unexpected invitation to meet with a friend to head toward the southern Wisconsin border. While it wasn't the most exciting day, we acquired some action at an assortment of shots around the area, hitting up some new and some slightly familiar places in the progress. 1-19-25

Finally scored an opportunity to catch the last active UP unit (a few D9s are stored, but in the progress of going for rebuild and repaint) wearing CNW colors near home, on a loaded coal train for Oak Creek. UP 8934, UP 5446, rear UP 6706 1-15-25

A nice couple of hours worth of action on the UP Milwaukee Sub in Glenview featured a nice little assortment of action and very friendly crews. A brief stop turned into an over hour long experience due to a Metra having mechanical problems in town. Metra 2607 and Amtrak 335 were to overtake CPKC 247 at Morton Grove, but the 2607's lead motor had issues prohibiting them from moving. With more passenger action coming south and 335 going north too, it would hold quite awhile before a hard reset of their motor fixed 2607's problems. CPKC 2...

With a good deal of traffic on the other side of the yard, 540 was thrown down to A5, even with a crew that was good to the NS at Calumet. CP 8792 lead, CP 7020 rear 1-12-25

With a bunch of Oshkosh JLTVs fresh off the production line and interchanged from the WSOR, the first CPKC 462 to my knowledge ran down from Milwaukee where they were dropped for them. NS 4009 was to be their leader, but a PTC defect ruined that plan. Instead they would take NS 4700 which was also at Milwaukee, and unfortunately for the crew, facing west. They went to Bensenville via the UP, so...
