My Journey from Nurse to Massage Therapist | Is Massage Therapy worth it?
You only paid $1-2,000??
Great video! This answered some important questions for me. I’ve been an LMT for 20 years and I have just added MLD to my repertoire. Post op is definitely different
Girl please come back I miss these informative videos I been subbed since the beginning and now that I’m actually starting school soon I came back to watch your videos 😭
Hey! I'm sorry life has been crazy. I'll do my best to drop something soon.
Also let me know what type of videos will be helpful to you
I am also an LPN in Canada, we call it RPN here in Ontario. I totally understand how you feel about having to deal with a very stressful job and having to take care of other people needs not just your clients but also the family, the politics in the nursing as well as the management.. so kudos to you for making this video. I appreciate it and I am doing my research in regards to Massage therapy school and thank you for inspiring me to. That it is possible to have a career change and have a peace of mind.
Thank you for watching! Make sure you watch my update videos before making a decision. I ended up going baok to working as an LPN full time and Massage part time. Let me know if you have any questions
@@nursed2recovery how come you went to LPN full time and MT part time??
Super helpful !
Thank you for a great video, I have just qualified as a massage therapist so this has given me some ideas.
Great info!!
I’m an LPN or 8 years in massage school right now
And I’m on the outskirts of Atlanta too
Love it!!
Thank you for sharing!
Expression of fluid through incisions is out of scope for LMTs in some areas, it is wound care and should be done by a nurse. Plastic surgery clinics may not really know anything about massage therapy and incorrectly advise patients to get "lymphatic massage drainage" for their post-op care. This is doing patients a disservice.
I agree
Duration and price of the course?
Hello it depends on the school you choose and if you are a full time or part time student
What textbook/workbook should i purchase? I start in the fall, but i am so nervous. Just became a single mom, and i have no room to fail, and i could use the extra help to get me prepared!!! Thank you!
Hey, I'm excited to hear about your journey, I mentioned the book I thought was helpful in this video. Best of luck to you!!
@nursed2recovery I must have missed the names.. I'm sorry, thank you!
How hard should they be massaging the area?
It should be gentle for the most part, no one should be squeezing you
Hi
Thanks for this video I Start my new job tomorrow at a spa here in GA! Is hrly pay plus 25%commission a good start?
Not too bad learn everything you can! Then look for a higher percentage in 6months to a year
Thankkkk you for this 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
You're welcome
Do u let people get nude or just get down to there underwear
Thank You!
Glad I was able to help
After watching this video, I immediately bought the textbook and workbook to prepare myself before class starts (a full-time class in March!).
Love this, congratulations! It is helpful
Thanks for sharing your story! I'm also in the outskirts of Atlanta and looking at a career change to massage. Kinda wish I went your route and didn't tell anybody because I did get that negative feedback from family that you mentioned.
I understand completely, but do what feels right for you, also I always suggest before switching careers and going to school, go job hunting for that career online in your area and see what the adverage income is. Because jumping from full time to contract work can be like being a fish out of water initially. Thank you for watching and I know you'll do great.
Where can you get a good massage in Atlanta. I am a swimmer and i aggrivated my lower back somehow. Thanks
Try a mobile massage therapist. You will get more of a quality massage.
Thanks for the advice. I think I will stick with my medication and my doctors advice to stretch more often. I move my elderly mother in and just don't feel comfortable doing a mobile therapy. Thanks for the advice though.
I would look for a place near you that has good reviews and offer " sports massage" . That would be the best modality for individuals who are very active / in a sport. Thank you for watching!
I'm a holistic health practitioner license massage therapist. What would I need to be a Nurse. Can you recommend some books to study.
I would suggest looking for nursing programs in your area and go from there. Thank you for watching
I’ve been a nurse for 17yrs and wanted a new career path. I still want to help people but not in a hospital setting so I want to transition to LMT. But I am not fully sure how to go about it. After getting your message therapy license what would you recommend as next steps to become a post op message therapist. And what school did you attend?
Hello, before leaving nursing all together have you tried working in other aspects of nursing. Such as physician offices or even in a med spa. There are way more positions outside of the hospital.
I am an RN of 10 years and have been thinking becoming a LMT. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching, I would like to also let you know it may not be comparable financially. So please keep that in mind .
Why not open your own place?
Whew, owning a business is easier said than done. I am working on some things, but consistent money is what I need to get to where I want to be.

MLD is not Massage, MLD does not include any massage techniques. Post operation lymphatic drainage is also not a massage neither involves pushing fluids out of the incision. Look for LANA certified that should be Certified Lymphatic therapist that specializes in post operation.
Cruise ships and pokerplayers I like your channel glad I found you 🎉
In my opinion, no therapist should be doing Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (MLD) if they are not certified in it. The only certifying courses/schools in the US are: Klose Training, Academy of Lymphatic Studies, Monarch CE, Vodder School, and ILWTI. After a therapist becomes certified in MLD, they should take classes in Post-Op MLD. The only courses in the US for post-op are from Academy of Lymphatic Studies, Kathleen Lisson's online courses, and Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy. :)
Thank you for sharing this! <3 I am also an RN myself, so its cool to hear that I can relate to that. You mentioned that you run on commission, is that always the case as a LMT. I'm from the midwest and I've seen job postings that showcase a hrly wage but I have heard things being commissioned based as well. Can you share a little bit more about that? Does the setting you choose determine whether or not you will be commission based, any knowledge would be helpful and appreciated! Thank you so much (:
Thank you for watching. Most of the well paying LMT jobs are commission based. The chains are more likely to do hourly. So it all depends on where you decide to work and how they have their payroll set.
I start my classes on the 19th of September 👌🏽
That's exciting!
Great video! Thank you
I'm proud of you!! You're so self aware and keep going after your goals. I can relate to some things such as not marketing how I should be. I'm a RN and a reflexologist and still trying to find the balance. Wishing you the best
Thank you soo much! It's definitely an interesting journey so far.
Congrats on focusing on your goals and yourself. Good job on the weight loss. I know that's hard❤
12:48 great intro! I’m doing the same RN to LMT!! Scared & excited. Your video gives me hope ❤
You can do it!
I just discovered your channel and have really enjoyed your videos. I'm planning to start massage therapy school soon and would love to see more on that from you. BUT also would love to see videos about your other job and general updates 😊
This was a very good video. Thank you for sharing.
I'm glad it was helpful!
Would you recommend the night class over the day class for students who are a bit slower learners?
Honestly, I'm not sure if I can answer this correctly for you. However, the night class would definitely give you more time in between class days.
@@nursed2recovery Thanks for the response.
I am going to massage school soon and enjoy more videos on that. I really like learning, and I appreciate your perspective on being a LPN and LMT. I've liked learning from all of your videos so far. Thank you for sharing!
Thank You! I plan on returning soon , so I appreciate the video topics!
Hello, did they give you any books, or just the binder?
The binder and a book to help study for the state board test
@@nursed2recovery Thank you.
How much was it to pay for your education for massage therapy ?
I believe it was around 12k , but definitely depends on your school, it could be less depending on where you go.
Is the money good? I don't want to give up 81K/year but I am drawn to this lifestyle
To be completely honest, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish and your drive. If your 81k is guaranteed with set hours then I definitely can't say you would get that amount right away in massage. Not to discourage you but I definitely would NOT recommend diving in and expect that much out the gate.
I have been considering going to massage school for several years now, and just as I was getting closer to pull the trigger, and as my best friend went to school and is now completed his program and doing fairly well for himself. I actually ended up fracturing my proximal phalanx of my pinky finger and it healed with a malunion. I had to get several x-rays and CT scans and I feel like my hand has a lot more information and arthritis already setting in. However there is a part of me that thinks maybe Doing that massage therapy program could actually be better for my hand in someway. Because I am getting more exercise for it. I’ve always enjoyed learning about natural alternative remedies through herbalism as well as essential oils. I know they have different techniques where you can limit the use of your hands and also use other parts of your body like your elbows or even bamboo etc. i’m not sure I have such a good opportunity to go to school in Texas because it’s so close to where I’m at. Plus it’s a very affordable program. I just don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that yet. I would look at doing massage more like a side hustle part-time on the evenings and weekends around a full or part-time job at hopefully offers benefits
Hi Dan, Massage is a very physical career. I know some schools may allow you to shadow a class before fully applying. I would suggest doing that before making that commitment, especially with an injury.
what classes did you take for post-op?
I trained under someone who worked under a surgeon for over 7 years, and now work under a surgeon as well. But I am looking into taking more courses so stay tuned
Thank you! Very informative 😊
Thank you for watching
Excellent video 👍. Thanks for posting. New sub here.
Thank you! I appreciate your sub
Hi how are you ? Do you need to take MLD before Post OP Massage course ?
I would say take an MLD course and learn from someone who primarily does post op Lymphatic Massages
A did you get your certification online? If so can you share with which company you went to? Tia!!
Hi Chevy, I did about 4 at this point lol. All of my certifications were in person. One company you can look into is instagram.com/4nineteeneducation?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
@@nursed2recovery Thank you for your response!!! I will check them out!!❤️
I am currently a CNA that just got accepted into an LPN program, and I am considering changing paths to massage therapy… As someone with anxiety, I feel like the more low stress environment of massage therapy might be a better route for me, but I’m worried that if I go into therapy I’ll regret not becoming a nurse and if I go into nursing I’ll regret not being a therapist. Do you have any words of advice, in general, in regards to my concerns
Personally, I would suggest getting your LPN license first. Then, get your massage license later. There are so many options of places to work in healthcare . I feel like nursing programs, in general, are great to just get out of the way. Also, if you can just go straight to your RN
I'm so happy I found your page! I'm a Licenced Esthetician and a medical assistant. I've been thinking about going back to school for massage therapy. Do you think age plays a factor? I'm 37...
No I don't think it matters , Im 35 lol
This was wonderful. Thank you! Do you have tips on staying fresh and making time for bathroom breaks lol. Would you Maybe do a get ready withe for work? Technics to take care of the body...wrist back...I'm going to look at the rest of your videos. These are appreciated.❤
This is a great idea! Ill see what I can do
Hi! Enjoyed your video alot! Would you say it’s financially worth it?
It is if you are great with marketing.
