Nice video :)
Thank you. 😊
I was able to budget when I was single but now deal with a younger spouse that likes to 'rage spend' on lots of stuff we don't need. I find some sanity in making contributions to our future retirement, but feel the burden of carrying debt is one sided. How do you get a 'free spirit' spender to commit to a budget? If the secret ever got out it would probably save a lot of relationships?
Hi Casa, great question.I just put out a video response as do think a lot to discuss. If there is debt, do be sure to reduce discretionary budget to cover a debt repayment plan.
really good info, thank you!
Aww, much appreciated. Thank you for watching!

2:53 I turned 57 today. I hope to retire within the next two years. Fingers crossed. Financially I can go right now but I’m going to hang on for a variety of reasons. Mostly my wife is seven years younger than me 😂.
Happy birthday 🎂🎉🎂🎉🎂🎉🍰 I keep debating with myself what to do.Really do like the idea of paying off the mortgage before I stop working. But yeah definitely leaning on staying and retiring around the time my boss does. Do know my husband loves retirement. Once you retire, your wife will get serious retirement envy at first. But it dissipates. 😎
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I don’t trade cryptocurrencies. Maybe do a search on YT and see if you can find info that way. Good luck 👍
Those predatory loans. There was a time, I was so poor ( really poor ), the lending institutions felt sorry for me 😂. It made me a better person to go to plan B. I didn’t need a new car and purchased a 10 year old car, it got me through several years. We do have to make hard choices. Good video.
It gets easier when you realize you’re getting ahead. We purchased a used Toyota 🚗 once, and it’s still my husband favorite car to date. Definitely worth it. Hope all is well!
If I recast my mortgage and my payment drops does that Improve my dti? Never knew it was monthly payments. Always assumed it was total debt.
Yes. As debts change or get paid off it would change and improve DTI. If someone’s is high then a goal is to pay debts down. Low DTi opens up more for savings. But it is separate from the 50/30/20 rule. One can still be strapped financially if needs and wants spending is high even if debts are low. You can calculate it on either a yearly ratio or monthly. Ends up being the same percentage. Just have to make sure you’re using what you spend and earn yearly in your calculations versus monthly. 😎
Net income after 401k contributions???
Technically, DTI is on gross income. But, I calculate on Net so I get a true figure on month-to-month affordability. So yes if you’re doing it to figure out how much debt you’re carrying and considering adding another car or mortgage debt. The % you contribute to 401k gets added to your STI after you calculate. So if your STI is 20% outside of 401k, and 10% in retirement plan, then you add the two together to determine true savings percentage. :)
I did my December debt update today. I haven’t figured my dti but it is probably pretty good. 👍
Yes, been watching. It’s awesome. Saving rate is awesome too.
❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 🙏 ❤️🎄🎉
Living paycheck to paycheck to paycheck is a mentality?
Yes.
Sometimes it is. But other times it really just is a math problem. That’s what I was trying to get across with my video. There are just times when our debt obligations and expenses just get so ahead of our incomes and we have to do a mix of getting our incomes up (like getting a second job) to pay down the debt. And scale our expenses down to have the debts become manageable. Anyone with high student loans or ridiculous home or car could have been lured into signing up for the debt. And yes, there is a sense a responsibility that we should take - I certainly did with mine - they really are not being financially taught just how burdensome the debt will be. And when numbers are not run on all costs (it’s not just the monthly payments ) life month to month just becomes difficult.
You are sharing so much wisdom here! I am 61 now married right out of college and started having the first of three kids. As soon as I got married we started relocating every 2 to 3 years all over the country for my husband so that his career could progress while he traveled constantly for work so I stayed home with the kids for 22 yrs. I completely trusted him to be the provider for our family throughout our lives. That was a mistake on my part. He became a workaholic and then got too involved with his coworkers. By the age of 43 I couldn’t take it any anymore and needed to file for divorce. Custody battle cost me 30K and went on for several yrs. I went back to school to become a paralegal- however in 2008 when I graduated the entire market was saturated and no one was hiring in my city for that position. I then switched into real estate and have done that the last 10 years. Past few yrs the market conditions with that have very much deteriorated!!! despite my best efforts I’ve struggled financially for the last 16 years and now have to change job fields again! So much ageism in the hiring process I’ve been trying to find something else to support me for the last two years, despite applying for hundreds of jobs if I had known how hard this would be, I would’ve made sure to have a longer work history with advanced degrees before getting married or having any kids.
❤I made it to the end😊
❤️🎄Thank you for watching. Happy holidays.

Just don’t get married in the first place! I realised that at 18…. 48 now
Definitely a good option to maintain independence. 😊 Single, never-married individuals often fare better financially than divorced ones due to the absence of divorce-related costs, asset division, and disrupted financial plans. But being single doesn’t guarantee financial stability; lack of dual income or support can pose challenges too. Roommates can help there.
No men and women make the same wages in the same industries because that would be against the law. Show me an example of this and i will show you a big law suit in favour of whoever is being taken advantage of....
Good luck. Wish it were against the law, but sadly women do not earn the same as men including in the same field. The decision on pay amount is up to hiring managers and it’s a range. Some industry have protections against this (like state and government jobs) but most public and private industries do not. Pay is based on perceived experience and expertise and it varies greatly by role and by employer. Straight off ChatGPT for you. And then article you can read. Below this point is not my writing: The gender wage gap is a well-documented issue in the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2023, women who were full-time wage and salary workers had median weekly earnings of $1,005, which was 83.6% of the $1,202 median for men. This disparity is even more pronounced for women of color. The Economic Policy Institute reports that in 2023, women were paid 21.8% less on average than men, after controlling for race and ethnicity, education, age, and geographic division. These statistics highlight the ongoing challenges in achieving pay equity across different demographics. Some articles for you: Wall Street Journal Gender Pay Gap in Sports? Uninformed comment
If you stay married and your husband becomes a widower, you don't have any of these concerns.
You have different concerns. Women inherit finances as most men in marriages manage the finances. And some learn of debts accumulated in the marriage only at that point. One in four widows over the age of sixty lives below the poverty line. There remains a gender wage gap, and so whet often happens when a stay at mortgaged home the lower income generating surviving spouse is left with unreasonable expenses and are not able to maintain the same household. Beyond not being able to continue mortgage payments, there hasn’t been enough consideration on life insurance. And women often are left with the burden of high medical debt from their late spouse’s care. And these are just some of the reasons why is why widows are 4x more likely to live in poverty in older age.
Divorce is the biggest risk to financial independence. Every FIRE Tuber I see who are marriage ignore this risk. A couple gets to 40, 50, 60 with a big pile of cash it's likely one of them is going to look at that pile and their partner and do some math. Which do they want more? Half the cash on my terms or all the cash on our terms? The dumbest partner will make that choice. Better imo to divorce as part of retirement. Set together is you both want, but get the State out of your relationship. Divide the assets while you still love each other. Then keep assets separate. 7:55 "Men can be pretty vindictive." Yup, this is the female mind and why men should divorce ASAP. She said men are vindictive for moving assets that are in his name, not her name. Get married while owning a house in your name and the female brain will consider that her house. A man would be vindictive to protect his asset. Marriage rates are falling fast, but not fast enough.
Stories I have seen and heard, some men do act spitefully in divorce by either hiding money, delaying agreements, or refusing child support, leaving their exes with fewer resources - particularly common if the women stayed home to care for children. For women in “gray divorce,” this, along with lower lifetime earnings, smaller retirement savings, and limited time to recover financially, often leads to higher rates of poverty. That said, women certainly can be mean too. But men have statistically less risk of going into poverty after a divorce. About half as much in general. The idea is that financial protections should be considered while the love is there is sound. Not sure I agree with the concept of divorcing for the sake of protecting money though. Consider Pre- and postnuptial agreements can help protect the individuals by clearly defining the division of assets and financial responsibilities beforehand. Good luck.
I was married at 17, and I divorced 32 years later. Nothing lasts forever.
Thank you for sharing. I hope all is well.

i'm from Europe - - we all save first before paying anything.... definitely before discretionary is allocated. savings from discretionary - is just that - its the money folks save on top of their initial savings. people in europe have a completely different view on life - money - the future....
It is awesome that Europeans save. In the U.S. we save from net pay too. Think when asked ChatGPT the savings rate it just did on discretionary. It’s actually much lower for the U.S. one if the reasons why retirees rely solo on social security (old age pension they paid into) for all retirement. Really hoping to strike a conversation for change and inspire everyone to save more. Thanks for commenting. 😊

I totally agree! “Emergencies” still happen while you’re paying down debt. I never understood the reasoning behind stopping savings while paying down debt 🤷♀️ I really enjoy your videos! Lots of useful content.

That’s a whole lotta points. You’re going to be going everywhere once you both retire! I use Jet Blue and accumulate points. But I use another card and do like cash back. I cash it in once a year to pay my holiday shopping. Really works well for me.
I think the snowball works best for the average person. It’s one small victory that leads to another.

Regina, I was watching a video the other day about widowhood. The woman ( mid 60’s ) had lost her husband through cancer. It came up fast for them both. I wonder how many women are financially equipped to deal with the loss of a spouse? I remember reading where the greatest predictor for women in poverty is divorce or loss of a spouse. I believe the loss of a job could be another factor. Maybe material for a future video? Estate planning, funeral preparations, knowing what your spouse has invested, know the investment companies and such. I think so many women need to be prepared for the unexpected. Thanks.
Great idea! ❤️will do.

When you have such long pauses, I’m thinking the video froze up!
😊 Nope, I don’t have a script. Sometimes the pauses you see is me thinking. That video was filmed later in the day, so sometimes my words don’t flow as easily. :)
My dad gambled away his entire 401k after he took it out before age 59 1/2 so then he paid the 10% penalty and then he forged my mom‘s name on cash app refinance paperwork on their primary residence and then he took out the cash out portion and took it to the casino and lost that as well.
I’m so sorry. Gambling addiction is such a tough topic. Truly destroys lives.
1:59 I feel you there. I’m six months ahead on my mortgage on my primary residence. I have a paid for rental property and my other rental property is paid up 13 months in advance and I’ll pay off my credit cards two or three times a week financial paranoia.
Nowadays I just pay one month at a time but already ahead, so still have my emergency buffer built in. Figure if something happens to me, my hubby has time to figure out all the bills before they pile up. 😎
❤

I get overwhelmed and I try I put 50.00 away then I have an event happens then I’m broke I’ll try again I’m 63 almost work a lot of hours on my feet so I try to reward myself
Pause and breathe. Be patient with yourself. Start small. Sometimes even a change bank works. We have a huge Hershey piggy bank. We purchased it many years ago during a tourist visit. My husband has been using it ever since. We used to roll up the coins about once a year and deposit it in the bank. We stopped doing that, and instead just use coins instead of bills, probably the equivalent of. one month a year easily. We save the bills that way. Tax refund time is coming too. You’ll get there. Cheering you on!
Impressive lights. I use to put lights around the front door ( outside ). We’re practical gift givers. Last year, I decided to give my two son’s a hygiene gift bag. It included shave cream, toothpaste and toothbrushes, floss, nice smelling body wash and hand wash. No, they don’t have a hygiene problem, but you would had thought I handed over a million dollars. We did give gift cards to their favorite restaurants. My youngest is still paying on student loans. Every little bit helps. Good video.
Love practical gift giving. Really like restaurant gift cards too. There were just too many people at the bigger showcase homes. But it was fun to go see them with family. We all enjoyed it.
8:25 Have you considered recasting your loan? I will be recasting a loan in the future.
No. That would extend the time. Looking to be free from the loan in general. :)
@ recasting keeps your term and interest rate the same. In other words if you owed 15 years on a 30 year loan, if you paid a chunk of money down, they would re-amortize the remaining balance over what is left on the original term of 15 years.
I want to keep the 30 year term as it spreads out the amortization of 30 years. If I switch to 15 years it would put more of the interest up front again. Think it’s more beneficial for me to keep interest spread out as you end up paying less in interest over the life of the loan that way.
You’ll be at 200 subscribers before you know it.❤
❤️ It’s a very long process on the views front. But really enjoying the topic in general. Keep on, keeping at it too!

Congratulations 🎉 so thrilled for you! There are days I really enjoy my work. Feel close. Just not there yet. Stoked for you though!
