A fun sunrise session at Wikaninnish Beach this morning before work. It was nice to get a bunch of waves after a few weeks of frustrating, big, messy sessions. My takeoffs (pop-ups) are looking a little better too. I enjoy making these little clips. Thanks for watching!

I would check if my hips are flexible enough to allow having my knees so close together. You can check that out doing the pop up as you did in the beginning of the video, but way slower. If you find out that you are using a lot of strength in your inner hips muscles to do that, it's probably good to improve your hips mobility. That's what actually happens to me, stiff hips
I forgot to mention that this is more evident on backside popups, because of the way your back higher rotates to one side to look down the line, while your hips have to rotate in the other direction
rotated left hand will flare your left shoulder out and create more space for your front leg to pass through. This can be super exaggerated on a quick right hand wave where you want tuck your left shoulder down towards the wave face.
Try folding your front leg under you more. Left knee would go towards the right rail. You can also rotate your left hand so your thumb points more back towards you. This will help rotate your shoulders when you pop up.
