SCOUR John Jarvis
I spoke to bassist John Jarvis recently about the band Scour and their upcoming full length album 'Gold', coming out on Feb 21 on Housecore Records/Nuclear Blast.
John, known for bands like Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, Fulgora, and NEST, joins members of Misery Index, ex Cattle Decapitation, PHA and the Illegals as well as the legendary Philip H Anselmo to create some of the most punishing extreme music I've heard in a long while.
Scour has been around for ten years, and after a trilogy of EPs they're ready to melt faces with their first full length album 'Gold'. The record is a rancid stew of blackened death, grindcore, and other influences. 'Gold' is absolutely relentless, showcasing the guttural banshee vocals of Anselmo and the incredible musicianship of the band.
John talked about the origins of Scour, working with Philip, recording backing vocals while on tour with Pantera, thematic inspiration, playing bass, and a whole bunch of other topics, including his new project NEST. He was extremely patient and super cool to chat with, and I thank him for his time!
'Gold' will be released on Feb 21 on Housecore Records/Nuclear Blast, and after listening to it a few times I highly recommend it for anyone who likes in your face extreme music. It's barely the new year, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's already a contender for the best of 2025. Get your Scour on and enjoy!

I talked with Bobby today about the new (-16-) album coming out Feb 7 on Relapse Records, called "Guides for the Misguided". The SoCal based band has been around for over 30 years, and are widely considered one of the pioneers of the sludge metal genre. Their new release is explosively heavy with some new elements added to make it even more powerful. Bobby and I talked about the songwriting pro...

Luis Fonseca retired recently after 22 years as a Hospital Corpsman. In 2003 during the invasion of Iraq, Fonseca was awarded the Navy Cross (second only to the Medal of Honor) for his actions as a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman during heavy fighting in the battle of Nasiriyah. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Fonseca_(sailor) Luis gives a full account of not just that battle, but his upbringing, ...

Just a trippy little jam I made one night. All music composed and performed by C. Matt Schmahl.
As one of the PltSgts in Charlie, I can say that to this day Joslin is still Doc to me. Thank you for doing this show, got me in my feels right now.😊
Thank you SgtMaj, that means a lot and is much appreciated. Joslin is a great guy and he'll be back on soon with one of his Marines, and I should have another Doc from Charlie Co on soon as well. Much love and respect to all of you that did the work in Najaf. SF
Great interview!
