Maple Sap Lines on Flat Ground

Adding the sap pit was the only feasible way of making lines work on my land, due to the lack of terrain features. I’m on year two of this, and it’s working very well. Even with the pump off, with enough flow, the lines empty into the tote without the pump being on, though the pump helps considerably with this!
Slab wood for Maple Syrup production

Our maple bush currently has 3-400 taps, producing up to 500 gallons of sap a day. Even with an RO, we go through a lot of wood. This method has saved up many hours, gallons of fuel, and money. This could be a good option for smaller producers that are short on time and money.
300 Win Mag Terminal Ascent: Real Animal Penetration!

The goal was to see how far this round would penetrate in a live animal, in real hunting scenarios, and hopefully recover a bullet that had impacted at or near 400 yards. This was accomplished, and with a hit that showcased its toughness, power, and lethality. Due to not being able to update the video after I found the bullet, I had to edit it, then repost it. I’m sick and tired of all you paper punching cowboys first shooting at game way beyond ethical ranges and most importantly using bullets that are not and I repeat not a hunting bullet on game! Hornady is loosing a whole lot of respect from me claiming an ELDX is a hunting bullet period. Its worthless as a hunting bullet and they know it. There are so many great hunting bullets out there now such as any of these all copper bullets of bonded bullets. Stop using match bullets to hunt. Berger is another prime example of a no good for anything other than paper punching being hailed as a long range hunting bullet. This crap is unethical and if you use it stay at home.

    • @michaeljoyce3153

My intelligence is telling me to leave this comment alone but my intrusive thoughts says otherwise. How many deer have you killed with an eld bullet? I'll tell you now my Ruger American in 308 exclusively shoots them and I haven't had a deer or hog run farther than 30 yards before it's a dirt nap. And the range thing one of those hogs was past 638 yards I'd say closer to 600 yards personally but that's what the range finder said. All of which opened as they where supposed to as well. Most where pass threw shots so they expand and penetrate. They work like Hornady said they would. As a hunting bullet. Are there better options for different situations yes. If you have experience with them that did you dirty please I would like to hear about it. I'm just confused as to why you claim they're not a good hunting bullet but they do exactly what a hunting bullet should do. The price absolutely sucks per pew but the end result is worth it from my experience with them.

Those bullets are paper punching target bullets and they blow up because of thin copper jackets which never intended to be used for shooting large animals. Hornaday is bull shitting hunters just to make money on their bullets based on accuracy not efficiency on killing game. The only bullet from Hornaday for hunting is the GMX and CX . This kind crap is made from most all bullet makers using lead core copper jacket bullets. Today there is NO reason at all for hunters to be using these junk target bullets to shot game when the copper expanding bullets kill faster and don't blow up! Those bullets show total bullet failure and meat loss would have been massive with deadly to health lead all through the meat!

I think these were excellent results for a marginal shots/hits on a tough animal. I always shake my head when hunters see results like these and try to claim that the bullets failed. These bullets did exactly what they were designed to do. Thank you for your honesty and full disclosure. I really appreciate it! Regarding your surprise at both bullets stopping with 2100 lbs of energy, this is entirely predictable. Deep penetration is generally a result of mass + velocity + plus reduced surface area resistance. Not energy per se. This is why coper bullets penetrate so deeply. Cooper bullets maintain their mass and generally don't expand anywhere near as much as this type of cup and core bullet. Which is great if you're up close, but I would not have wanted to use copper, or tough bonded bullet on this kind of long shot. The ELD-X bullets obviously hit solid bone, which both reduced mass and velocity, while causing huge expansion. As you said, if the shots had gone through the lungs, you would have had beautiful mushrooms and full pass-throughs. Cheers!

I'm brand new to wanting to tap a tree, and it'll be a black walnut tree, not a maple. I'm leaning towards metal because in my mind, the metal will last longer than the plastic and to price compare in September 2022, a set of 6 metal taps vs a set of 12 plastic taps WITH the plastic tubing are $4-$9 difference ($16 vs $20, $22, $25 depending on what all comes with it like an info booklet). You posted this video 2 years ago according to YT, do you still prefer the plastic taps over the metal taps? I'm trying to factor in the possibility of supply chain and shipping failures so I don't want to risk just not having any should they break, cause I might not be able to replace them in the near future. So, metal or plastic?? How difficult is it to clean the plastic tubing? Or do you need new tubing each year? Our trees (2 of them) aren't very big around so they're not going to be worth much for a long, long time as far as harvesting the wood itself, though I will be tapping as low on the tree as possible so in the future, IF we or someone else might be able to cut the tree down for the wood, the holes won't be a significant issue
