This was a piece that we played back during our spring concert, so it was quite some time ago. I feel like my playing has immensely improved soon, and there will be more recent concert videos soon!

How to Train Your Dragon - Flute POV (what happens when nobody practices)
มุมมอง 17K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was my school symphonic band’s performance of how to train your dragon. it was the second song in our spring concert, and was honestly one of our most challenging. we knew that it was going to be a challenging piece to put together, especially with our instrumentation. for it all to come together everyone had to put in the amount of work that they needed to, and in my opinion we didn’t do ...
Kinetic Dances by Randall Standridge - Piccolo POV
มุมมอง 2.7K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
We had our spring concert a last week, and it was pretty eventful. I played flute and piccolo with the symphonic band, and I also did a flute/marimba duet. In addition to that, I played in the percussion ensemble, in which we did a bucket drumming piece, and the brass ensemble, in which I played the French horn part on the mellophone. The first song we played was Kinetic Dances by Randall Stand...
By Dawn’s Early Light - Flute POV (What Happens When 5th-12th Grade Plays Together)
มุมมอง 1.9K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
For Music in Our Schools Month, my school did a combined band concert with 5th grade - 12th grade. We all played a couple separate songs, and, as tradition, we played one together. It just so happened that the song we picked to play this year, By Dawn’s Early Light, was the piece we played combined when I was in 6th grade, so it was really cool to see just how far I have come.

omg I remember playing this in middle school! It was one of my favorite pieces. I’m super excited because my band director got us the 13 minute arrangement for our spring concert, so I can’t wait for our next round of music
And now for something completely different. It's.......Sorry but somebody had to do it!
Apologies accepted :)
😂
Your tone on piccolo is so pretty! 😊
Thank you so much! 😊 I'm really glad you liked it!
We played this at the Sydney Opera House as a Public Schools band, we did well until the Flute solo which we sold so hard on! Still, we recovered tho
That sounds like an amazing experience! Glad y'all were able to recover!
good think you werent the only one sight reading lol
Our conductor switched the song on us at the last practice before the concert, which I unfortunately had to miss because I had pep band, so it was definitely a surprise when I showed up to the concert lmao
Was the Highschool music hard when you first went to high school, because I play oboe and I don’t want a solo help
Well… then it’s time to learn another instrument 😅
It really fluctuated year-to-year. My first year, we had a different band director than we do now. The music was relatively easy for the first half of the year, although it was still harder than what I played in middle school. Half-way through the school year, we got a new director, who is our current one. We played a lot harder of music my sophomore year, including Second Suite in F and Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. However, everyone was learning together so it never felt too overwhelming. As an oboe player, there are of course going to be moments where you are the only one on your part, as I'm assuming you're the only one your school has. We just got an oboe this year, and it's the first time we've had one in a long time. He's a freshman, so he's timid, which is to be expected. However, everyone is super welcoming and encouraging to him, and I would expect it to go similarly in your band. No one is going to judge you if you make a mistake, as we all do it, and everyone tends to be a bit more forgiving towards oboes anyways lol. Just go in with confidence and I promise you'll have fun!
Niceee
Thanks! Glad you liked it! 😊
NO WAY I PLAYED THIS TOO 😭
That's awesome! 😄 What a coincidence! It’s always fun to find out others have played the same piece. How did it go for you?
As a clarinet player who’s been teaching herself flute, these videos are so helpful for learning and remembering embouchure honestly😭😭
I'm so glad these videos are helping! 😊 Embouchure can be tricky, but with practice, it really starts to click
was this a honor band or regular performance
This was a performance I did with a local community band that I'm in! There are a combination of middle school, high school, college, and adult musicians!
@@elizabethwatkins7567 that kinda sounds fun. I might do that during or after high school year!
Woah that’s amazing that your apart of that!
You guys did so good!
"Thank you so much!
Wow such a cute flute player 😊😊 I like the trumpets the best tho
The trumpets are ok, but I'm not sure that they're the best section in our band tho... you're also biased Viva
you’re rlly good at flute omg 😭 i play it too and you play it rlly good
Aww, thank you so much! 😭💖 That really means a lot coming from a fellow flutist! 🎶✨
@ aww anytime! i like your channel :) you’re pretty underrated! ill give you a shoutout to hopefully help you gain more
Aww, thank you so much! 😊💖✨
for sight reading you sound amazing it sounds like you practiced the whole piece before you skills are on another level ❤
Thank you so much! 😊 That means a lot! 💖
Amazing!!
Aww, thank you so much!! 😊
Yall were really good! Keep it goin queenie!
Aww, thank you so much! That means the world! 💖
each video I can def tell your improving 😊👍you sound amazing
Thank you so much, that means a lot!
rest in peace the soloist 😭 im debating on asking my band director if we can play this for our spring concert since its in our bands skill range although itd still be really difficult too 😭
Wow, that would be amazing! I totally get how challenging it could be, but it’s such a beautiful piece-it’d be so worth it! 🙌😭 I’m sure your band director would be impressed with the idea. Best of luck if you decide to bring it up, and no matter what, I’m sure your performance will be incredible! 🎶💖
Ficou incrível 😃
Aww, thank you so much! 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Uau 😀
Yall still did good! Feel bad for that senior soloist, hope they were alright!
Aww, thank you for the kind words! 😊
I have the same piece with my band ❤
You will have so much fun playing it!
We played this song when I was in 7th grade and we absolutely butchered it at the concert, I will never forget how bad we did
Hey, we all have those performances!
@ Yes yes yes! I’m so much better at the flute too, I’m First chair piccolo and Flute and I made region for our school so I’m definitely improving
Played this with my Freshman band 😭 It was really easy 😭
What part did you play?
@ T sax 💃
Are you from USA? Btw i think that it would be enough to tune the instruments before playing and ask the conductor if they are in tune because he should be the one to tell you that, it would probably help with the rhythm if you looked a little more at the conductor instead of at the notes, or if each student practiced their part at home with a metronome :). As for the more difficult moments that you are not sure about, practice them at home and try not to practice those specific 5 notes, but take for example 3 bars before and start playing from there and practice in that way. Apart from that, you all played nicely :) Also in measure 64 why do the saxophones play the horn parts? I assume it's because there aren't enough horns (typical) but at first it seems to me that there are those two horn players and there's no need for the saxophones to play their parts. Another thing is that i think that you should play the flute solo in measure 30 since you play in my opinion the best of all flutes, I know that you may probably not be very keen to play it as a soloist because you are afraid that you will fail, but remember that each of us must try to do things that are not easy, otherwise we would not develop. Greetings from Poland as a fellow horn player :D
Thank you for all of the amazing advice! I am from the US. The reason the saxophones play the horn cues is because we only had one horn player last year, and he was also our best trombone player, so he was able to play some of the parts that were important for horn, but if they were happening at the same time as an important trombone part, he would opt to play trombone. For this concert, I am pretty sure he was actually playing french horn, but usually he would just read a french horn part, transpose it in his head, and play it on trombone. He’s very talented!
My senior band played this way better. I'm in pain.
This is a high school 9-12 band!
@elizabethwatkins7567 oh sorry. My bad. Still, the senior who did the solo should have practiced more.
I remember playing this in high school!
I actually really liked your tone even if your chops were tired! Good job sticking through it, I’ve had my fair share of rough performances too!
Thank you so much! I actually have another concert coming up this week where I will be playing a lot and having to switch instruments, so my endurance and ability to change my embouchure is something I’ve been working on a lot recently!
@@elizabethwatkins7567girl…. U got support here! I’m also a piccolo and a flute player and I have to switch for my spring concert so I support uuuu!!🫶🏻🫶🏻✨✨
the zoning out is sooo real 😭‼️ (amazing intonation btw!)
Thank you so much! I play on a school piccolo that was either donated or bought for very cheap, so it’s so hard to keep in tune sometimes 😭
Playing this song for our trip to Disney Land(Flute)
That’s awesome!
Not bad especially since the piccolo really isn’t your thing. That whole band needs to learn to play dynamics it was F all the way.
thank you. dynamics is definitely something we’ve been working on since we performed this song, which was last may
This piece doesn’t look easy at all.
it wasn’t too bad, but definitely a challenge for our band!
It is easier then it looks. I've played it with my band
Yea same
the beginning hurt when one of the trumpets messed up also good job.
thank you!
@@elizabethwatkins7567 yw!!
Sounds good!
thank you!
Just a question is your picc lip plate dented
It probably is. It’s a school instrument so it’s not in the best shape, but I honestly haven’t noticed so it’s not affecting anything too bad
Playing this song with my band (alto sax)
same
it’s so much fun!
My band director gave us the music for this and I’m playing the bassoon music on marimba.
@SunnySide84 that’s awesome! we often have mallet players do oboe or bassoon parts in our band too, although we finally got an oboe this year which is exciting
@ fun! We have two oboes who play alto sax in marching season and are doing oboe for concert band.
I really need the sheets
my band played this last year
Kudos for sharing this! We've all been there, but the experience of working together-whether performing solo or in a group-will add so much to your life. Keep it up, enjoy playing music, and make friendships and connections. This will be a part of your life that you'll look back on as a sweet memory! :)
thanks! our symphonic band has seen a lot of improvement over the past couple of years. we have a lot of stand-out players, it’s just hard to get the group to mesh together
oh a picc with non black body, isnt it full of finger prints??? The flute is already a pain in the ass I cant imagine the picc being impossible to get all of it out
I’m a flutist and a piccolo player and from my experience metal piccolos are harder to sound good on than other kinds. Her playing was amazing!! She sounded so good and I hope to be as good as her someday. Also since piccolo is so small it’s very easy to clean.
Yeah, I just make sure to give it a good wipe down every so often and it seems to stay clean!
the clarinets at 3:27 D:
we had two who knew what they were doing and the rest were just… hanging on
@@elizabethwatkins7567Average clarinet experience during a concert.. (but usually only about 5 are doing it right)
Nice
Thanks!
Хорошенькая девочка.
Hey girlie just wanted to let you know for the future, no hate but you are trilling the C wrong. It should be the other small key not the one that you were using. (:
thank you so much!
@@elizabethwatkins7567 You were actually using the correct trill key! The first trill key is used for a C on the stave, but you use the second trill key for a high C.
I'm pretty sure there are two ways to trill C guys
@DancingGirlz4evs yeah except one is more in tune than the other
Is the senior 1st chair or do they just get to solo because of seniority?
usually if a senior wants a solo they can have it, and I was already playing an entire solo song. technically I am first chair but we don’t have official chair placements at my school
@@elizabethwatkins7567 Girl you shoulda gotten that solo😔😔😔 Save for the *one* or two parts (which was pretty difficult) you played the song SOO good. You better get the next solo whenever one shows up in the future
I already have at least one for this year’s winter concert!
I was searching for the scene in The Innocents (1961) where they say this classic phrase and somehow ended up here...and very glad I did. Now I feel like sailing the high seas!
May I know what were you doing at the beginning ?
i think she was just blowing warm air into her piccolo to warm it up.
some of the winds had a part at the beginning to make air wooshing sounds through their instruments, but it wasn’t loud enough, so I added it in
some of the winds had a part at the beginning to make air wooshing sounds through their instruments, but it wasn’t loud enough, so I added it in
the senior flutist messed up that solo so bad 😞
He was very nervous! He was playing it alright up until the concert :(
