Not bad for a set from the year of my birth lol
Any adjustment on the model kills it abstractie. So I prefer no brown stairs or interior. An expansion however would be fantastic.
The 6085 has maybe a more aesthetic look than 6080. I find however the gatehouse of 6080 a more impressive design due to the use of mainly and only one color.
I wanted this set so freakin' bad as a 3rd grader. Never got it.
@@yousircantknow8987 well I'd recommend buying it now if you're so inclined, one of the best castles ever.
What a wonderful overview. This is a fantastic channel and I love how detailed you make your reviews.
Thanks! I do try to get more in depth just cuz I think retro castle/pirates fans are a bit more interested in the details.
@@eldoradopirates well I sure would love to see another Pirate themed review if you are still doing videos.
@@MightyThorngren I'm working on a Rock Island Refuge review currently
I alwals want this set . But it s dificult to find .
Wolfpacks were my childhood dream (bought them when became an adult, but its a completely different feeling). I remember the day when I came to a toy store with my grandma somewhere in 1994 and saw Wolfpack Renegades 6038 set. She was about to buy it but didnt have enough money (at that time we only used cash here in Eastern Europe). Once we got home to grab some money and came back to the store this set was sold and I never saw it anywhere else since then, soon it got discontinued.
Lego Knights' Kingdom II set. th-cam.com/video/Bgd4-jJH53s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ml_SB_KuTGMS2z2X
One of the best review man. Keep it up. Where are you from? And subbed 🎉. Do the review of 10305 Lego set. Reply me back
Thanks! I'm based in the Chicago area. I might do a review of 10305 in the far future, haven't given it to my kids yet tho so it's still in the box.
@@eldoradopirates oh ok please do a review if you build it. Can you give your email id
I got 6080 and 6085 which I both loved as a kid. While I preferred this one, I always thought the prison door Was too big and preferred the "locking" mechanism of the older castle. Putting that bar infront of the door was great fun somehow.
LEGO 76178 Daily Bugle from 2021 also features this old backpack piece 😅
Quality video from start to finish!
Thanks!
I have this set, it is one of my favorites...there is something about its simplicity in construction yet soaring imaginative value.
Agreed, this was part of the golden age of Lego Castle during 80s and 90s where it stressed the imaginative play and didn't go crazy on constructing every tiny detail. More kid friendly overall.
I love your insights on how defendable the little fortress, its a very good balance between knowing its a lego set and like HMM could this hold off a attack? its fun lol
I desperately want Lego to remake this set
At the rate they're doing remakes and what not, it could happen in next few years
Hopefully not. I don't need remakes. They would still messed with this. So no for remakes.
It's not a dragon, it's a wyvern :) - "real" dragon has four legs/two legs two arms and wings on the back, wyvern has two legs and winged arms. Although one could argue that the creature on the shield looks much alike the Lego dragon from the 90s (which had arms and wings seperated, so actual dragon there) and for the purpose of readability, the artist that designed the heraldic animal left the arms out because they would be too small on the shild. Then again ESPECIALLY in heraldry, you dont just leave stuff out. That would be like leaving out random letters of your name as you sign something ... And heraldry itself is pretty clear about what a dragon is and what a wyvern is ... sooo, should me start calling the dragon knights "wyvern knights" from now on? ^^ nice castle review! cheers :)
I was looking to purchase this but now your comment has change my mind on the Wyvern Knights vs the Dragon Masters going forward forever.
Lego castle was my favorite line, and the forestmen are my all-time favorite lego faction. I never had this set, but really wanted it and consider it the quintessential forestmen base. I did (and still) have the river fortress and river crossing, and the river crossing is also fantastic. I built a Castle in the Forest last year, and the camouflage boulder is my favorite part of build, pretty much cementing in my mind that I missed out on a great set as a kid, haha.
If u have the chance to buy Camo Outpost now, you gotta do it. As good as the other Forestmen sets are, I think this one has them beat. When I think of Forestmen, this is the first set that comes to mind every time. Although River Crossing is definitely 2nd on the list.
My very first Lego set!
I'm fine without remakes, since nothing can top Lego from 80-90s. Got my original Tower modified with extensions and just got couple more figures too.
It's weird how '96 tried to turn the Forestmen into the Wolf Pack, but that too only had a couple of sets in the end.
It seemed like they saw the value in a sneaky underhanded faction like Wolfpack represented. Lego has a weird track record on starting themes and just dropping them randomly before they can blossom. More Forestmen sets are always welcome and the community would be psyched for a full reboot.
Sadly they only released Dark Forest and some of the 1990 Forestmen sets in US.
@@HenritheHorse that I didn't know. It's no wonder they're horrifically expensive on Bricklink.
fair point with Dark Forest. While i have more emotional connection to tha ttheem the WOlfpack just captured my imagination more. One could also consider the red dragon knights from 2013 a spiritual successor to both dark forest and wolfpack. note the forest ambush and banditry focus of their sets .
woow. i never thought of the gray parrot as a falcon i just thought it was a statue made of stone!
It can frequently double as a statue in multiple other sets through the years as well, just depends on positioning. On Wolfpack Renegades, it rides along on the back of the cart like a pet. The first set I ever got it in growing up was Black Monarchs Ghost in 1990.
@@eldoradopiratesthats sick! im a 2003 kid so i unfortunately wasnt alive to experience these so i just buy them nowadays causs their pure hapiness!!
I'd love a wave focusing on a rivalry between Forestmen and Wolfpack robbers. Maybe the organized government they both rob being the Fright Knights?
My wolfpack tower has remained assembled for thirty years. My friends and i just loved the wolfpack back in the day
It's a good one to remain assembled. It's instantly recognizable and doesn't take up too much display space.
Ahaha exactly the same here, get it at 8 y old and now i am 38 and i have now enough space to create a lego room for a medieval display <3
Don't like it, too sleek. Original was lit, though
Sweet set! 🎉Building one with spare parts, almost got everything... Could you tell me please, where do modern wolfpack torso come from? Castle kingdoms I guess? I wish to get one at least.
Unfortunately there's nothing really modern that works for these old school brown torsos. The original era torsos can be bought on Bricklink for about $2-5 each. The other torsos from Kingdoms era were just common peasants attire
@@eldoradopirates I googled🙂 and found out that there was a 2002 torso very similiar to Bull knights design with wolfpack insignia.
@@Wind-Waker7272 yes a "collectible minifigure series" archer/hooded forestman kinda guy. But the emblem is pretty tiny. *edit > Rogue // col254 < that's the one
@@Wind-Waker7272 That torso comes from a rare minifigure keychain and it is very expensive now.
Nice video en good explained!
I prefer Dark Forrestmen sets, but they are so rare and expensive.
I wish Dark Forestmen got more of a run and got more sets. They were cut short like the Wolfpack were and it's shame because there was so much potential.
I got most of this set as a hand me down.
This and the hideout are the sets I owned of this theme. And I'd love to see a remake of it. With modern bricks, modern bits and pieces like the did with the GWP. And they could easily release this as an ICONs set.
Yup this should definitely be an Icons release. This MOC on Rebrickable does a very nice job of creating a modern version of the outpost: rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-128713/marinbrickdesign/6066-camouflaged-outpost-remake-castle-forestmen-lego-moc/#details
lobe your vids glad your back!
Thanks! Got more coming in the near future (wolfpack, pirates are next big ones).
WOLFPACK! less gooo
Faction also referred to as the black monarchs. More fitting in my oppinion. :)
It looks like if you have two, you can connect them together in their spread-out state to make one much bigger castle?
Yup you can utilize the pin connections to put two of these castles together. Or you can incorporate other sets like Knight's Stronghold (set 6059). Back in the 80s, Lego Castle was big into making smaller build sets you could incorporate straight into your castle walls in this manner.
Ah yea, like Harry Potter-lego. At least in the first year@@eldoradopirates
Very fun and versatile set! I've used it as a background set, addition to a forest scene, etc. It blends in at angles just like it's supposed to! It's cool as a stand alone too. I've been using this as a "base camp" for a different clan of forestmen. Really like it and glad I was able to pull it out of a bulk lot I bought.
Great find for a bulk lot for sure. It really can be used in so many scenarios, very adaptable with its size and shape.
Great set! I’m glad that this set was deemed worthy of the 2022 remake. For those who missed the GWP set, most of the unique parts are available on Lego Pick-A-Brick!
Agreed, it was pretty much a perfect Forestmen set to remake in terms of size and notoriety.
What an awesome set, this is the only Forestmen set I have so I deeply appreciate it. Hope you continue to do reviews, they're good. (Also I think your horse is a more recent one, the one that goes with this set doesn't have the printed black mane!)
Thanks for the kind words. I've got more castle reviews coming in the next several weeks. And yes, that is definitely a more recent horse. Not sure what happened to my all-brown one that originally came with this set, so I'll have to hit up Bricklink to replace it.
@@eldoradopirates Looking forward to the castle vids, and good luck on your endeavor of getting a proper horse!
Awesome set. My first set ever. As a kid this was (still is) my favorite.
❗ 'PromoSM'
Great review! Again, I love the inclusion of the history behind the set and its place within the castle world.
Great and thorough review of a classic set! I would one day like to purchase this set but due to the high price, I have been holding off. I like how you incorporate Lego history as well as Robin Hood into the review. New subscriber!
Thanks a bunch!
@@eldoradopirates You are welcome!
Somehow I got this recommended to me while I wait for a couple of pieces in the mail to finish this set. My father had it when he was about 10 and I was able to gather most of the original pieces for it from my (some formerly his) collection
That's a great project right there. Those light gray pieces from the 80s and 90s are real hard to find in good condition, they seem to be perpetually discolored.
Where I was from this was just called ‘The Black Fortress’ and from what I can remember it was the first castle to have a working gatehouse with both drawbridge and portcullis.
Great video! This was my very first lego set I owned, thanks for the trip down memory lane
I've brought mine for $250.00AUST and I had to because of the black torso Minifigure that was in pristine condition and how rare it was. Just like how I literally ordered from Bricklink a Governor Broadside torso print in the best ever condition from a buyer in Ukraine back in 2021 before the big war began. Governor Broadside is now safe in Australia.
Excellent, those are 2 of the best minifigs of the classic era you mentioned right there.
Nice! The horse dresses/armor look amazing.
The horse barding is great, just wish the clips weren't so brittle. I gotta get a new blue and red dragons barding for my Black Monarch's Castle for that reason.
One of the best sets
I still have this! Was easily my favourite set growing up. In the first lockdown I got my old lego out and rebuilt it. Still great.
The set definitely still holds up, especially with all the minifigs included. There's a nice modern re-creation of this set on Rebrickable as well.
Excellent review!
Entertaining, interesting and creative minifigure poses. Great job on the review.
This is such a fun set! Who would have known how valuable and highly sought after it would become! If I had known back then when I know now, I'd have grabbed like 8 of them at that price!!!
Definitely a classic. It was just a shame that the Forestmen theme was so short lived, should have had a lot more sets.
Great review!
