Apple Watch Ultra vs Series 7/8 Comparison: The Choice Wasn’t as Obvious as I Expected
Hi, what eq setting do you use for momentum 4? Thanks your answer.
Again, this is a great comparison video. Thank you! I agree with your opinion a lot. I am not sure whether XM5 can even join the league of the mass brand flagship in terms of the sound quality. In my opinion, XM4 can sound better for a considerable number of people. I think sony try to lean on their good reputation by a lot of cost reductions. Although they announced that 30 mm driver shows better and faster responses than the previous 40 mm version, there is some point that the limitation is exposed by the smaller driver in XM5. I might purchase XM4 with $199 BF price since I use LDAC. For that price, it may work. Although M4 is a little behind xm5 for usability and comfort, it is minor compared to the sound quality difference. I get a little more tired for long-term listening from M4 compared to QC ultra, PX7 S2E, and XM5, but it is way better than XM5 IMO. Until now, my best pick in this competition is the Bose QC ultra, and the second is M4.
Anyone looking for gym headphones I would say go with the Bose. I had the Momentum 4's for about 10 days before I returned them. The clamp force was way too strong for working out and my shoulders would often touch the play/pause touch controls when I was training back. They sound great though!
Simple Choice and 3 reasons why. 1) MDAQS The Multi-Dimensional Audio Quality Score results indicates BOSE Quiet Comfort Ultra is much better than the SONY WH-1000XM5. 2) Sony XM5 release date May 2022 MSRP $399.99 and Bose QC Ultra release date October 2023 MSRP $429. aka release date (age) and original pricing. 3) 2024 Holiday sale XM5 $299 and QC Ultra $329 both dropping $100. affordability as Sony XM5 should be discounted more because it is a year older than Bose QC Ultra. On the other hand, the best audio/sounding BT headphones are the Sennheiser Momentum 4 release date August 2022 MSRP $349 and now on sale for $229 as $120 less. The Momentum 4 MDAQS rating is about equal to the Bose QC Ultra. Another thing: Momentum 4 just sounds better than Bose or Sony probably because of the 42mm dynamic drivers. The best affordable Bluetooth headphone which cost less of the 3 is Momentum 4. The quality is better than the Sony XM5 and just a small notch below the Bose QC Ultra. Sorry. Bose QC-45 are outdated but most likely provide better comfort than other BT headphones.

Thank you.
So confused... XM5 do have passive listening... They don't need to be on which is great if your battery dies and you can't charge. Bose QC Ultra and Sonos Ace need to be turned on with a headphone jack.
Thanks for the call out. You're correct, and this was a mistake on my part. I've removed the parts with issues. My apologies for the mistake.
@NorbReviews no worries, you're reviews are fantastic! Keep up the good work!
Great review, need xm5 vs bose qc ultra
Then stay tuned! That’s coming very soon! Thanks for the kind words!

Did I catch Norb saying saying something negative about apple? 😂🤣😂
I’ll happily call out their misses as well as their hits.
Is there any way around the ear cups heat issues with the M4?
The only thing that kind of worked for me was getting ear covers like these: amzn.to/4gkdP7d The problem is that, because of the shape of the M4’s, the covers don’t fit all that well. Still, it’s an OK solution and DOES reduce heat.
I experience both and Iean more to momentum 4 except the comfortability of the ear cups which is very irritating
Yeah, the ear cups are the only issue I have with these when it comes to comfort. For me, the headband on the XM5 was a smaller issue than the ear heat, but I find it weird that Sony went with round and narrow rather than wide like they had on the XM4.
Can you review the sonos ones?
It’s not in my plans, but if I get an opportunity, I will.
I used m3 for 2 years. Waiting for m4 shipping. If anyone has eq settings for m4 to sound like m3's high end tuning sound mode please share. Since they both have the same drivers I believe m4 can sound like m3. About Sony XM series? They just sound bad to me. Not even close to momentum series sound quality.
How do you compare this one to Sonos Ace?
I haven't tried the Sonos Ace, so I can't say.
@ thank you for your answer.
What eq settings do you use for momentum 4?
Excellent review!
Thank you!
Is the normal quietcomfort headphones hot on the ears? I returned my M4 bc they were way too hot
I haven't tried the standard QuietComfort, but if it's anything like either the QC45 or QC Ultras, ear heat won't be an issue.
The outer cups are made of aluminum 😉
Thanks for the clarification! This is a lot more obvious with the Px8 (which feel *PREMIUM*), but I just really wasn't sure with the S2e and couldn't find something that clearly stated the make of this part.
I have an iPhone, would you still recommend the Px7 S2e over the Airpods Max?
That's tough. The two are VERY different, with polar opposite sounds: AirPods Max is super crisp, whereas the S2e is very relaxed. My biggest issue with the AirPods Max is that I can't use them during flights: they give me headaches. But outside, the user experience with Apple products is unmatched. My biggest complaint on this front about the S2e is the noise canceling, which is just weak. I lean AirPods Max here because of usability, but the sound is so different that it's really up to your own ears and whether you find either more comfortable.
I have tried both (I own the M4) but in my opinion, the momentum 4 eats the Bose without a doubt when it comes to the sound, but I do think the Bose are a little better for the daily use, they are more comfortable and lighter. If your priority is the sound, go for the Sennheiser
I’m on the fence. Both are on sale right now! I primarily use my headphones for hanging out in the house listening to music and podcasts while I’m cooking or doing chores. Which do you think would be better for a non-traveling lifestyle? Someone who just listens at home while they’re hanging out? I mean, I’ll travel occasionally but not super often.
@ The Sennheiser
I believe with just some tweak in eq you can get m3 sound since both has the same 42mm driver.
You can get very close. In fact, I have a setting in mine I call “classic” that tries to do just this. The difference for me is the ear pads: because they’re plushier and more form-fitting than the old sheep skin leather ear pads, there is always more bass, since the sound bounces around a fair amount in there. So there is still more bass. But you can get close, which is great.
@NorbReviews Oh. Its sad that I cant get that punchy bass. But its a relief that I can get close enough. Anyways after 2 years of use even half price worse headphones can make me happy just because of different sound. Thanks for the info. If you have an eq settings can you share?
Why no reviewer test m4 with eq to lower bass...
I did :-) But because most people don’t touch the EQ and just leave the default settings, that’s what I present. That said, I’ll be making a video about tuning it in the future.
@NorbReviews Hey... Nice review :) My 2yo M3 had issues. Sennheiser dont have new m3 so they are gonna send me new m4. Sennheiser has the best warranty service in audio brands in Turkey btw. Since both m3 and m4 have the same 42mm drivers can i get m3's high end sound tuning mode sound by some eq tweaks on m4?
Great video! , very detailed 😊
Thank you!
I bought the M4s and returned them. I used the in-app audio enhancement feature, and got lots of distortion at high volumes. The M3s are far superior in what they can handle, in this regard. The M3s have the option to completely turn off noise cancelling; the M4s do not. This makes a big difference to sound quality. I was extremely disappointed with the M4s - they sound worse than the M3s, and cannot handle anywhere near as much as the M3s with high quality audio at high volumes. Do not waste your money on them, if you're a bit of an audiophile. They're crap.
the momentum 4 are bass heavy headphones. bose much more netural sounding . if you love shit tons of bass , who am i to argue .
if you travel a lot isn't battery life more important than being compact?, yes momentum case is bulkier but not by much, but 60hrs battery vs 24hrs, with 60hrs you can travel for a week without needing to charge
Depends. You’re right, it’s important. But most people have the opportunity to charge: airports and airplanes now often have charging ports. (Don’t know about most trains, though, a very different case than I’m used to.) Space, however, especially when traveling international, is at a premium. I was just on a flight to Japan and space is definitely at a premium with carry-on luggage. (Especially if you want to minimize check-in.) The bigger case would have been a problem - inches count - but the 24 hour battery was plenty for my need. Still, a longer battery would definitely be preferable, and I’m surprised it’s still not over 30 hours at least. 60 is marvelous. So this very much depends on your travel needs.
The Momentum 4 sounds far better than the Bose. Add in the app and EQ customization, and they may be the best bang for your headphones on the market.
the momentum 4 are bass heavy headphones. bose much more netural sounding . if you love shit tons of bass , who am i to argue .
@ Bose are muddy and def not balanced. Most reviews say as much. The momentums def have stand out bass. But again, with the amazing EQ in the app, they can sound however you want.
Sounds like someone got some money for saying stuff. Most of this is not totally wrong, but the chosen language seems skewed to fit an agenda.
I love the confidence in my ability to get sponsorships, but you overstate both my influence and profit drive. 1. I bought these with my own money. (I almost always do, and if I don’t, I state that clearly.) 2. I’ve never once communicated with anyone from any of these companies or their representatives. 3. If I had, I would be legally obligated to disclose that relationship. 4. Even if I wasn’t obligated by both TH-cam and the FTC, I would still say something if any sort of recompense had happened because, as a viewer, *I* would want to know this. No, I’m just a guy who owns these, does this as a hobby, and is sharing his honest opinions. I also just like to make the kind of reviews that I’d personally want to watch.
The momentum build quality is very bad. I went to try them on, sound very good but cheap build quality. Do not get momentum for the gym as I had the 3 and they broke due to sweat
Why do I keep hearing this? I have a pair that has held up to being tossed around and worn in the gym five days a week. Zero issues. What are people doing?
1. The 3 and 4 have very different builds. 2. Even if they didn’t, neither is sweat resistant. These are not meant for the gym. There are gym-focused headphones for this. But if you sweat a lot, earbuds would probably be a lot better (which is what I do, BTW, a pair for QuietComforts from 2020), since most have an IP## rating. You want something with at least an IPX4 rating.
@@NorbReviews most over the ear headphones are not meant for the gym, lol. Sorry, but I’m far from a noob when it comes to headphones or audio equipment. The build quality is fine. They aren’t as rigid as the earlier models, as they use different materials. To say they have bad build quality is laughable. They hold up better than any Beats or Skullcandy cans that most young people have. And the sound quality is far superior. Bose has a muddied midrange and they kind of always have in their products. Mostly because they fill their mid to low end too heavy while leaving the upper range sharp yet still not detailed. These particularly have a sharp high end. I’m assuming to compensate for the heavy low end. But these are way exaggerated with bass. If someone is looking for a great hi res set or even a faithful reproduction of the original audio, the Bose aren’t doing it.
I don't get why people buy over the ear headphones to use at the gym. Like 80% of them are not meant for that, just buy earbuds.
@ I agree. I happen to use mine the last few months bc less ppl bother you, lol. Not everyone notices you have earbuds in. Plus sound quality is better and more dynamic.
I have M4, no matter what I do I can't connect to desktop PC, only phone and surface pro laptop, lots of difficulty with pairing with win 11 apparently
I had the Bose. They are definitely more comfortable, lighter and have deeper ear cups. However I returned them for the Momentum 4 and am so glad I did. The sound is night and day for me. I customization and personalized audio setting is amazing. The battery life is something I feel like people take for granted. They legit last for weeks between charges with pretty heavy use.
Are the momentum 4's good for studying, i.e. noise cancelling and comfort for several hours of use in a row in environments where the chatter can get quite loud at times. Currently looking at the momentum 4s vs the xm5s since the xm5s apparently have the best anc of all or close, whereas the momentum 4s have worse anc but better in pretty much everything else, Currently I'd also be able to get the momentum 4s for 230 vs 370 for the xm5s although price isn't really a big deal (although 370 is the highest I'll go)
the momentum 4’s active noise cancelling is really bad, it’s only good if the environment isn’t that loud to begin with like inside a library. you could also get airpod pros instead of the xm5 for cheaper if youre looking for good noise cancellation
Indeed they are just fine!! The nitpickers will make you believe that they are not!! I have used them many times over and the quality of audio, battery life, comfort is awesome!!! I have tried both and I believe the Bose are wonderful BUT the M4’s are quite splendid to use with amazing features to boot!!
Ignore the haters. Yes it's not Sony levels of ANC but I just sat with these for 14 hours on a flight from Japan and couldn't hear the screaming baby 5 rows away. The battery life is crazy though, almost unnecessary levels of playback as you'll definitely be at home between use of these. Not great if you planned to use them in the gym too, they don't clamp on my head as tightly but that's not what I bought them for. XM5 price is absolutely insane compared to this.
@thesongoflunch alright lol they seem to be fine for long use as well, been reading some stuff about their clamping force & the headband being quite thin, then again the XM5s seem to have the same issue at least as far as the headband goes with it being so damn narrow for some reason.
On the moment I‘m deciding between the Bose qc ultra and the b&w px7 S2.The Bose are 269,99€ and the b&w are 159,99€ in my country.Which shut I choose.I‘m Not Planung on using them as much for travelling.I will use them with my iPhone and my windows pc for Musik ,Gaming, TH-cam and sometimes for movies. I have also a question about the snapdragon sound and aptx adaptive:dose this work with windows or do need to get an adapter?
You need an adapter
This is an excellent comparison!! If you can: Please review the Noble FoKus Apollo? Can there be a comparison with the Focal Bathys? Keep up the good work!
First, thank you for the very kind words! I would *LOVE* to be able to review the Noble FoKus Apollo! But unfortunately that’s a bit out of my price range at the moment. (I’ve thought about starting a Patreon to help with costs, but otherwise it just comes out of my pocket, unless the company lets me borrow one, but that’s very hit or miss with companies at that level.)
@@NorbReviews I understand. They are quite expensive. I still enjoy watching your in depth videos.
Shut I get those for 269,99€ in my country or the Bowers and Wilkins S2 for 159,99€?
I’m working on this review now, but short of it: - if you need great ANC, transparency with voice focus, something that’s good for calls, a smaller travel case, and light headphones, go for Bose. Yes, that’s a good price. - If you prefer a warm, mature sound, and ANC doesn’t matter much, the S2e a good buy. I love both, so it’s hard for me to say. I like the Bowers and Wilkins more, but I don’t know if it’s better: I just prefer it.
@@NorbReviewsThank you very much for this really really fast answer❤.Will the review be put until black Friday? That would be great😊 Ps:The offer is for the S2 but aren’t these and the S2e pretty much the same?
Sennheiser's are by far better. We need comparison of them to PX8 Bowers & Wilkins
Well, I did the comparison to the Px7 S2e, which is close, although the Px8 has a darker tone: th-cam.com/video/1_bPTRmt5w8/w-d-xo.html I also compared it to the Bathys, and a lot of this comparison I feel holds. th-cam.com/video/9xgFyJrHeWY/w-d-xo.html I had the Px8 for a while, but it wasn’t enough of an upgrade for me from the S2e to justify the cost to keep them. The build is *really* nice, though.
@@NorbReviews if the momentums's had premium build quality like the PX8 or B&Os H95/H100 they would be the best
Airpods max or momentum 4 on basis of sound quality
If you like a lot of bass, Sennheiser. If you prefer a very crisp quality, AirPods Max, but it gets a little sibilant. Overall, I feel Momentum 4 is better because it has just as much clarity without the sibilance. The only exception is if you don’t like a ton of bass: even with the EQ, it can be a bit much in the Sennheiser for some.
@ thanks sir for the reply but i have a very important question i have the airpods pro which i love very much for their sound quality spatial audio and convenience although they dont have enough bass which i think i want a little bit more then i think will the airpods max be that significant upgrade over it or not like mids highs and lows to be more richness in quality because this is hell lot of money for a headphone as i live in India and it costs like double the price (750$ here) if anybody buys it in Usa or somewhere
FYI, description mentions Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e ;)
Fixed! Thank you!
the most informative video I've watched about px7s2e, thanks
Thank you, and I’m happy you found it useful!
*Thanks for Your review.* *This pair of headphones is an all around good headphones AND good looking AND comfortable.., but still too expensive for what it is and does.*
Isnt the ELITE and EMPYREAN 2 different models? The they got Empyrean II.. No?
They’re different models, yes. The Elite is the next step above the Empyrean (it’s actually called the “Empyrean Elite”). Sort of like Bose calling their headphones the “QuietComfort” and “QuietComfort Ultra”. The Empyrean II came out after the Elite.
@@NorbReviews Thanks.
That's easy. Just get the momentum and go
Not sure I agree that the Mojo 2 is analytical and less of a 'lean in' sound. I've found it to be extremely enjoyable across quite a range of headphones. Also you missed the Poly also having the ability to play media from it's SD card slot (up to 1TB). Also also, crossfeed is highly dependent on your headphones and depending on the music you're listening to, will not always have a more than subtle impact.
EDIT:Also, also, also the reason the micro USB ports were left is largely due to backwards compatibility with the Poly. Without that, buyers of the Mojo 2 and those who wanted to upgrade would not be able to use the Poly since it was made to utilize the two micro USB ports.
Please tell me which one would you prefer between B&W and Bose QC ultra…?
I’m editing that video as I write this. The answer is complex. But what are the 3 most important things for you in order? Maybe I can give guidance.
@ 1) comfort at first (for flights, transport, work, everyday usage - weight, fit, materials) 2) sound (for different types of music, don’t want it to be flat, love details) 3) design (such a girly thing)))
What are your thoughts on the Accentum Plus'?
Haven’t tried the Plus. I have the Accentum. They’re not bad. I just saw them for $80 which is a great price for these.
As a gift for my son.. can’t make a decision between Bose 45 or Bose ultra.. his works remotely.. can u please advise .. thanks
TBH, the new QuietComfort are a step up from the QuietComfort 45’s, which I adored. There are some insanely good deals now for them, too. (Costco has them for $170!) the advantage of the QC Ultras is that there’s better technology inside, specifically when it comes to snapdragon sound and aptx lossless, plus the BT 5.3 will let them be updated better in the future. So the question is, does your son need sprint that is good enough? Or do you want him to have the best of the best? If you can find the QC Ultras under $300, get them. Otherwise, the QC’s are just fine, and frankly they have some upgrades, like passive sound and a power / Bluetooth pairing button that is a switch.
There 279 Black Friday
100% worth it.
Guys I have glasses and I have very long hours with headphones, I am scared of the glasses hurting after several hours. I am between these two or de Sonys M4 which ones do you recommend???
The Sennheiser M4 and Sony XM4 are the softest for glasses. I haven’t really had an issue with any, but the Px7 S2e is more tight, especially at first.
Do they block noise well despite there being no noise cancelling
They weren’t bad, but that depends on how well they fit your head. If you want something with good bass and decent enough ANC, consider the Sony WHXB910N (although these are way more fun).
Never had this problem.
Hey, I can buy the Sennheiser momentum 4's for €200 and the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2 for €170. Which one should I buy if price makes no difference? I find the audio quality and the headphones durability (headband or earpads not coming of after some months) the most important. Thanks in advance!
That’s what this video is about. :-) Just skip to the sound section and recommendations. I personally enjoy both for very different t reasons.
Bowers & Wilkins definitely
@@visualsbyMIEL you didn't even watch video
@@jasonMB999 I did but he is talking about the S2E and I asked about the S2 and I don’t know if there is a big difference between the two, that’s why I asked :)
