So fine. The second movement is the best I've ever heard. The last movement as well.... Haha! At the very end you can hear Giulini shout just as the orchestra plays the third to the last note!
The Janowski set is a real treat.

Here's an anecdote Barbara tells that make clear her concentration on phrasing. I saw an interview with her in which she said (paraphrased} about the the second line in Am I Losing My Mind." It was years before I felt I finally got it right, how to sing the pauses that bracket " . . . the coffee cup . . ." When your hear her singing that line, and the rest of the song, you can hear the absolute perfection she built on those curated silent beats. Here's that th-cam.com/video/Y_G4JNMURj4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Csi4BY5XesJHvwT9
Sublime Bach en manos de Kuijken
44:31 ooh my God!!! 😂
Thank you SOOOO much for posting and sharing this recording! I used to OWN this!!
Eileen Farrell knew how to sing a popular song in her vernacular voice, so to speak.
EF could sing everything, from Bach to Wagner, from Irish songs to Gershwin.
This was one of the first streaming videos I ever saw, before TH-cam even existed. Early 2000s. I remember being so amazed - I couldn’t believe it! A few years later, I saw Barbara Cook live. She must have been 80 by then. Unforgettable.
the greatest baroque contralto ever
Gracias
Fabulous!

Brendel is matchless at making sense out of every part and making it relate to the whole. This takes real interpretative genius. Most pianists can only just play the notes evenly, some make sense of little bits but thise bits do not fit into an entire landscape. Only Murray Perahia approaches Brendel.
Mozart had no sustain pedal on his cembalo, so we'll never know HOW he intended the opening bars to be played. Obnoxious staccato as by Richter & friends, potato as here et.al. or lovingly singing with sustain pedal as it sounds best by eg Barenboim.
Mingardo-Alessandrini. Coppia monstre👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Mid-roll ads are killing the music. Are you aware of them?
The most unusual structure of any Bach cantata I know of & one of his greatest. It is an early work composed, I believe, when Bach was working in the small German town of Köthen. All sections are connected without breaks. In other words vocal solos & choruses are not separate entities for the most part & flow from one to the other non stop. The use of recorders is magical as well & this 20 minute masterpiece is Bach experimenting memorably. The greatest recording for me features Edith Mathis, Theo Altmeyer, & the superb Franz Crass who could sing Bach as beautifully as Mozart & Wagner.
The early Mulhouse stuff is legendary and I find it preferable to the great Leipzig cantatas. However I can't stand them done with a choral group. Only with 4 soloists.
@@kedemberger8773 I like both Karl Richter's celestial extravaganza and this lean, poignant version. Both touch my heart. O Bach.
@@KapitanStav absolutely right. just heard richter yesterday with a friend. His arkhiv recordings are a labour of love.
This ring is unequalled under the quality of the orchestra’s point of view. Of course as to voices the decades before left us with golden era voices, but overall this cast cannot leave us disappointed.
Is Rene Kollo the best Siegfried of the postwar period here? He is caught at the right time (early forties) and his somewhat harsh but very strong vocalism and interpretation are exciting to hear. Maybe the finest recording of the opera.
Incrediblly beautiful. What a fantastic voice and musicality.
Coro: SCTB. Trompetas I-IV, timbales, oboes I-III, fagot, violines I/II, viola y continuo Texto original en alemán del título y Coro 1º (1 Coro [s,c,t,b]) ¡Christen, ätzet diesen Tag In Metall und Marmorsteine!
What a phenomenal gift to witness her honesty in coaching…
Giulini is one of the best conductors I’ve ever seen and due to my age I’ve seen almost all of the best conductors since 1965 and I still do!
Splendide! Cela touche au coeur.
IL MAESTRO E' BRAVO...MA ALCUNE VOCI NON SONO ALL'ALTEZZA,VEDI IL TENORE...
Enchanting 🎉🎉
This is a very neat studio recording indeed
Both the cantata and this recording in particular are astonishing.
I miss Barbara Cook so much. Such a Rare Talent from an incredible generation of entertainers!
❤
this is marvelous fun! when was this class? Looks like early 2000's. Where are these students today?

"Let's lower the key and sit down." This is great. Barbara reveals so much about herself, it's like an enhanced interview with her. This could have been a show on Broadway!
La plus grande chanteuse du monde
I listened to SO MANY recordings of this just now looking for this specific sound. The oboe and solo voice are perfection in *this* recording. Love.
I think so too. Marcel Ponseele the oboist is amazing.
Thanks on a rainy Sunday
Beautiful!
Ah Ponseele: divine!
