    No matter how hard it is to sleep, looking at your lifestyle and habits is more important than going for sleeping pills. Sleeping pills don’t address the root cause of your sleep problems. They only mask them and help you pretend to sleep. Sleeping pills are sedative-hypnotics. Sleeping pills will calm and sedate you but do not put you in a state to undergo natural sleep. “Sleeping” in a sedated state is similar to sleep due to exhaustion, aka “passing out.” You are “sleeping,” but your brain isn’t going through normal processes. Sleeping pills and medication have their place in severe situations where immediate intervention is needed. However, long term, this isn’t the solution. You must look at your current lifestyle and habits to improve your sleep. These are either harming or helping your sleep.

    Melatonin is not bad for you! What is bad is taking TOO MUCH melatonin and/or taking it at the wrong times. 0.5 mg to 3.0 mg should be taken anywhere from 2-4 hours, and sometimes even up to 8 hours before you plan to sleep. If you’re going to consume caffeine, the key is paying attention to the timing of when you take it and the amounts. It’s best practice to have any caffeine before noon and stay away from it for the rest of the day. However, if you’re consuming caffeine later in the day, slowly work on pulling it back about an hour or so over time until you can eventually get it to around noon. Caffeine can remain in your system for 6-14 hours. It can be less or more depending on the amount and how your body processes it. It takes trial and error to figure out how caffeine works for you. Caffeine is only an issue when misused. There is no need to force yourself to cut out caffeine completely. Just be aware of when you’re using caffeine.

    Using your phone near bedtime isn’t doing your sleep any favors. The light emitted from your phone can halt melatonin production, which harms your sleep quality. However, the problem is that breaking this habit can take a lot of work. If you will be on your phone before bed, activate night shift mode or use twilight. Setting this up only takes a few minutes and will help you sleep better.

    In the grand scheme of things, less is more when it comes to sleep.

  • @sleep_santuary
    @sleep_santuary ปีที่แล้ว

    A tiny fraction of the population, less than 1%, can survive on 5 1/2 to 6 hours of sleep. The gene “dec” allows this scarce type of person to live on 6 hours or less of sleep. However, the odds of you having this gene is almost impossible. Aim for 7 1/2 to 9 hours of quality sleep. Drop the “popular” narrative saying, “I’m completely healthy, getting around 6 hours of sleep.” You need to be completely honest and objective with yourself concerning your sleep. Access how you feel when you wake up daily, and monitor biomarkers to ensure nothing is wrong on the back end. Subscribe to stop struggling with your sleep.

    More movement 🏃‍♀️= More quality sleep 😴 - According to the National Sleep Foundation’s annual poll, people who frequently exercised (three times or more per week) reported better sleep quality than those who exercised less than once weekly. - Exercise can increase sleep duration in healthy and sleep-deprived people and may also improve sleep efficiency. - One study found that moderate-intensity exercise improved sleep efficiency by 65%, while high-intensity exercise improved sleep efficiency by 34%. - Excercise Duration ⏱️- Typically 90>60>30 minutes results in better sleep. (Any duration is better than none). Excercise Type 🏋️- Any type of exercise (aerobic and anaerobic) will help sleep. Excercise Intensity 🔥 - High intensity, moderate, and low intensity help. (Moderate typically helps sleep the best, careful with high intensity, as it can get to a point where it decreases sleep.) - Now of course, there are many nuances and specific details to get into beyond this. However, at face value, exercise should be heavily considered to help you sleep better.

    • @sleep_santuary
      @sleep_santuary ปีที่แล้ว

      When taken chronically in high dosages overtime it will lead to imbalance and down regulation at the cellular receptor level. It’s completely safe to use at low doses in short bouts (1-4 weeks).

  • @sleep_santuary

    What do you think? Work harder and sleep more, right? - Sleeping more is technically the answer; however, more hours to your already low-quality sleep doesn’t do you any favors. - Why are the hours you’re sleeping now so bad? - Well, it’s because of this narrative that you believe or were told that you should work more, work harder, and forget about sleep. - Sleep is this inconvenience that gets in the way. - Here is the truth about working harder and ignoring your sleep. - You can’t work harder when you’re tired, having mood swings, irregular hormone balance, and having trouble staying focused. - I speak on this narrative personally from the many times I failed to do so. Ignoring my sleep and going for that nonstop 24/7 grind...yeah, I crashed and burned countless times.
