Nice idea, but thumbs down for missing narration and that annoying music. Did you check the exact spacing of the pads on the ordered PCBs? Looks like you measured just a single pad and put that in your file. That will add up the error with every following pad. The long version could be several millimetres off if full extended.
not sure which caliper is compatible with this design, who knows?
I tried to extract the files from the pkg extension, but with 7-zip all I get is a number 0 to 5 and 0 to 10 and a thumbnail.png. Is the file extensions missing from the pkg or are they packed and unpacked with another programme other than 7-zip.

Got my PCBs from jlcprc this week. 14 eur including shipping to the NL for 5 strips. My calliper restarts from zero after 20cm or so. Anyone else have this issue?
you have to see frist what your caliper can measure and how far... some can measure up to 650mm or 25mm or 1000mm and then there's a zero...
Did you mean jlcpcb? Is it still possible to order them from there?
I tried to use a digital caliper in this way, and it did not work. Examining the data output, it was entirely random. Sitting at zero, the output data was different every time. Beware, some of these calipers have fake data ports.
not all calipers have a data output..in 24 bit mode

I have recently bought a couple of the cheapest plastic calipers I could find on eBay and the data out on these are working ok but I was surprised to discover it reads in 100th mm despite the calipers only displaying 10ths.

Hi! I've compiled and uploaded. I've not the Bluetooth, if I power on the calliper Arduino ask me to change in mm and press set, I press it but no go away, is possible to read the value on display without Bluetooth? Thanks
Just ordered 30 pcs with pcbway, will make a 2000 mm dro and closed loop control on the lathe/mill combination I made. So I don't care about back-lash anymore.
should be possible 2000 mm but most calipers only count up to 650 mm so needs some specific arduino code
@@jimi1233 Hi, The 0,01 accurate calipers continue the count until 999,99 mm then to 0, so it's easy to code. One question: in your video, between 09:11 and 09:14 you don't show how you 'glue' them together, I think I need to solder and verify the exact distance between 2 pieces? ALmost done here, will share the video. Combined with a rotary encoder, I have accuracy up to 0,0001 mm (0,1 micron)

@@jimi1233 There seems to be a problem with the Gerber files. They say that there's no trace in the file and therefore no copper layer.

Nice thing! I would too like to maximize my calipers but I'm not sure about the dimensions of the grid. Can you post the dimensions? because I only seen three of them, 7.8, 2.3 and 0.3mm. 2.3x2 for the widest part of the T? And how about the height of it. Thank you very much!
Я тоже дошел до этой идеи, но раньше на полгода. Добавлю что не обязательно точно соблюдать размеры площадок на линейке, программа в считывающей головке сама умеет подстраиваться под размер площадок, я даже делал, для эксперимента, линейку у которой площадки в два раза шире (хотел линейку на поперечную подачу токарного станка приделать, что бы показывала размер на диаметр), но показания не изменились и считалась длина так-же как и с обычной ширины площадками. Для работы нужны только "Т"-площадки. Линейку сверху защитил каптоновой лентой. I also came to this idea, but earlier for six months. @@jimi1233 The board itself, the one in the caliper, of course must be made very accurately. Accuracy depends on it. But the requirements for the accuracy of the ruler are much lower. I made a ruler tape on a simple CNC milling machine, I simply engraved with a milling cutter without even taking into account the width between the platforms. And everything works exactly. От нее и зависит точность. Но требования к точности линейки гораздо ниже. Я ленту линейки делал на простом фрезерном станке CNC, просто гравировал фрезой даже не учитывая ширину между площадками. Hi Limi, I have tried your code and have some problems. At first I got the " PinChangeInterrupt.h: No such file or directory " error. Put a comment before the line and compiled without error. Now the display shows up correct but freezes after half a second. I reset the arduino and it freezes every time. I can see numbers changing just before the display freezes. So I guess the code is doing the job but something goes wrong. I am using SSD1306_128X64 IC2 oled display. Any help will be appreciated, thanks for the super project!

@@jimi1233 Thanks for the response, I have sorted out the problem. The sda and scl pins needed pull up resistors to 5 volts. Doing that the display doesn't freeze anymore. Also with the pinchangeinterrupt version 1.3 the sketch compiles without error. And everything works as intended. Thanks again for the great project. Keep up the good work.
