My team's race, also my first as a Cat 3. Didn't do fantastic due to a busy weekend but still a great race and good weather. Lots of fun racing with friends.

New venue this year at Bacon Ridge, great course layout and very fast laps. This race was 45 minutes and 7 laps.

Great venue and weather - course was wide open and full of elevation, lots of fun.

Lower expectations and a second row start led to a more calm start for me, while I lost 9,000 positions was able to fight back a bit. Good course, kept it upright.

Other than my immediate start, this was not what I was going for. First race of the season, good weather, dry course. Just didn't have it today.

My last race of the 2023 CX season. This was was a burner, fairly fast but also high consequence as the conditions were wet to muddy. Very fun course, on a dry day the ability to stay on the bike all lap is there. Had to run a steep hill a few times but was able to ride it 1.5 times.

My team's annual cyclocross race, was cold and the surface was a little damp in spots early in the day but pretty much perfect CX conditions. Thanks to everyone that came out to race, spectate, and volunteer.

Needless to say I did not do well at this race for two reasons. One, I was crashed out in the hole shot leading to several injuries, and two the rear tire went flat (my fault) so it was basically a mess of a race for me.

Ahhhhhh what's going on at 21:58?
A portal opened to Elkridge!!!
This is hot
@@TimJessilonis you feature heavily with the heckle stroller!! The cheering was much appreciated!!
I thought you had a part start and then realised you were waiting for your start 😂😂 Great racing.
The guy in the row behind me asked if we were all starting together. I told him no, and not to try to go through me when the 35+ started 🤣 Thanks, it was a hard race but I put together some good laps.
Thanks for getting me into your video without lapping me😊
Happy to oblige!!! 😂
Nice job. That was me right in front of you at the start where I totally botched the start for us both. Oops
Thanks, you as well!!! Hey no worries, that's racing. See my South Germantown race from last year. Went from front row to the back while barely moving LOL. We had a fast race - thanks for coming out!
Sorry man again, I am glad you came back stronger at SGCX.
Thank you!! Yeah SGCX was much better for me, I really needed that performance after this week.
I was pretty pumped up for that race. After pre-riding, I decided to bail and not even race after seeing all the gravel. Rockburn and Tachinno should be a good time!
Yeah I can totally understand that - I'm comfortable with tech sections and will only be mad at myself if I crash on my own, but some of that deep stuff could have been raked or something. You weren't the only one to do that BTW. I'll be at Rockburn all day and hope to make it to Taccino. See you next week!
Obviously, you're not lacking anything in the HTFU department! Good job in staying in the race; I got the Shimano scarf at Cap Cross a couple of years ago and it's possibly the best swag!
Ha thanks - yeah I def went through the 5 stages of grief in that race. I did give myself a "hardman" award for that finish... Awesome, Shimano scarf buddies!! Yeah that made it all worth it :)
Nice race. 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!! Really turned into a good race, everything came together with minimal issues.
Ah man, that was some fun racing with you! There was a whole lot of back and forth between us. Too bad that lapped rider in the woods slowed you up. He should've gotten out of the way 🤷♂
Yeah Chad it was a blast!! You had really good speed and consistent lap times. I'm just glad the guy in the woods went left so I could ride the berm and try to catch back on. There's always the next weekend I guess! :)
Well done Tom ! it was a pleasure being outkicked by you. See you next time
Great racing with you as well, we had a good back and forth going on. Let's do it again!!
lol, I had a good starting sprint, then back to reality
Ha yeah you were up there! Tough field this year.
Lol.. I love your highlights video! Fantastic race, though.😄
Ha thanks Sean, might as well have fun with the edits :)
Wow, good on you just hanging in to finish
Thanks!! Yeah probably one of the hardest races for me.
Dt hub?
Yeah, with the "angry bees" 54 tooth upgrade :)
Nice ride and lap times for the 60! Hotter than blazes wasn't it. I did all I could but took the DNF for the 80. Made it 60 miles and truly could have suffered one more lap but I already had the T shirt and just didn't want to.
Thanks @samj1185 !! My lap times only got slower after the first one 🤣 the 80 would have been brutal in that heat. One day I'll do it...
@@thomaskrispin5099 me too! maybe next year.
Thanks for posting.
Very nice result! Looking forward to my next indoor workout to check out the whole vid!
Much appreciated! Very fun course - I'll be at 2 of the next 3 so stay tuned for more :)
Nice video Thomas and it was nice to race against you! Arnaldo Ruiz #1311 👍🏼
Thank you sir, I had a lot of fun at this event and it was great racing against you as well! I'm hoping to make the Big Elk race later in the year. 🤘
Yah!! Can you turn the sound up? Thanks for posting this, it was a fun, grueling race
Great ride and thanks for the video
Good stuff dude.
only reason I signed up was for the video! congrats on the Jersey!
Aye that rocks 😂 Glad you came out and raced, was a fun series. I should post a highlight reel of the series. And thanks - there's a first time for everything!!
and we all need to learn how to corner, cuz I'm not sure I even saw Ian S pedal....
Dude it was like playing Mario kart on expert against the computer. I almost couldn't believe what I was watching 🤣 he needs to run an old man cornering clinic.
Series Champ! Congrats Tom, thanks for posting these videos. This race definitely showed how important the position/passing game was. I was having way too much fun to play it right ;)
Thanks so much Adam!!! Congrats to you on your win and riding so strong though the series! I love posting the videos and am marginally better at editing, I'm glad they get a few views :) Yes, position is super important, but only if we can hold it LOL. Can't wait for the next one!
Nice riding. You are definitely riding stronger this year!
Thanks Alex!!! I'm pleasantly surprised with my results this year. Falkorburg came together nicely, no crashes and no mechanicals!
Nice video, nice lines too! Thanks for posting!
Much appreciated!! I'm happy with my line choice in this race, in certain spots it made a difference!
Shame you had the mishaps, but super strong ride! Without those stops you would have been right with me!
Thanks Adam, and I agree! I really had the short power to keep coming back a bit, which I am really stoked about. I'll get top 10 one of these days! Great racing with you as always, and strong showing by you!!
Lol I see myself rooting yall on it 3:52 . black dude red bike cap black jersey
Day one mansion hill was easier ... That day 2 reverse Sucked bro
I was a course marshall both days for the pro races, day two Mansion hill looked brutal!
@@thomaskrispin5099 yea man only the front group rode the hill on day 2
In my race cat 4/5 a dude was knocked unconscious coming down the big flyer over
Bruh that's crazy! It is a big fly over, but I thought the second fly over just before the finish was a little more dangerous.
That second one has a hard exit.lol. I was nervous on the first run.
Still nothing compared to crit crushes. CX is best in that regard.
Race noise: 6:37 ouch
Nice I like the editing and highlights
Impressive
Thanks to show me the course dude!!! How many laps did you do las time?
I did 5 last time. Course is a little different this year, I'll see if I can upload a video
Thanks for the video! i'm amped to get out there again this year!!! just a few more weeks!!
Thanks John!! I'm stoked for it too this year, hoping to get some good footage this time too.
@@thomaskrispin5099 I had no idea that you had this much footage of me on the bike!!! cool to watch us on that first lap
I’m going there today!
Where was this? Nice trails.
Alex, this was in patapsco, Howard county side. First part of the gravel was north of old Ellicott City, second part was northbound near Daniel's dam area
Thomas Krispin do you have the track on Strava?
@@alexpline yeah I should have included that in my reply, sorry. Here ya go: strava.app.link/KLAixnDwm6
@@thomaskrispin5099 Thanks! One more question: anything give you pause about doing this on a cross bike?
You've had worse falls. :o)
Dude, I'd say you don't even know the half of it, but they're all on video :)
Thanks for posting - very strong field today.
Your welcome, happy to do it. And I agree, it was a fast race!
you had a solid race. great job
Appreciate the videos!
Matt - If Josh feels on that last lap that keeping the pace high discourages attacks and/or he sees weakness, in addition to his staying power as his strength, then he’s doing the right thing. Also doesnt afford the solo an ability to recover well enough for 1 more quick move that may have the other 4 look at each other til it is too late. U10
Just watched this. Looks like a really fun course!
Thanks Adam! Yeah fair hill is a good course, can be fast and flowy, not as technical as Patapsco.
This is awesome
Woodstock vt?
mark schneider Woodstock, Maryland - a little west of Baltimore, in Patapsco Valley State Park
that's a ride up ;)
What's the beeping? Is that from the GoPro? HRM?
Garmin Edge 500 probably. I have it set to auto start/stop when it detects movement. Sometimes I was going slow enough to make it think I stopped!
Great effort man. What happened at 14:10 (and 31:10)? Chain drop/jam? You lost well over a minute at the first stop, ugh. Love the guy at 28:10 "power, power, power!" Even watching it all, I wasn't sure what place you got. 3rd?
Yeah I shifted the chain into my spokes (both times). Stupid mistake because I didn't check my equipment in the week leading up to the race. A simple derailleur adjustment (after the race) fixed the issue. Luckily I didn't do significant damage to my spokes. I don't know what place I dropped to, but I regained enough to get 4th. The first stop my chain was JAMMED in between the spokes and cassette. The guy yelling "power" was a friend of mine, when he yells you do what he says!
