Ol' 55 is an Australian band who took us back to 1955 with this song ... a pleasant journey indeed.

I'll never forget that day in 1970 when a fellow student said to me "Have a listen to this". I did, and it was a long time before my jaw got back up off the floor. It was the ground-breaking album Abraxas featuring Carlos Santana and that magnificent Latin-Rock fusion. This song from the album was my favourite, written by the peerless Peter Green. And by the way, just in case you forgot, Fleetw...

A blast from the past. In August 1964, yes almost 60 years ago, the Kinks emerged as as force in British pop music, and Ray Davies would later prove to be one of the great songwriters. When I heard that opening guitar riff for the first time all those years ago, my jaw dropped. It was revolutionary. Rest assured that no speaker cones were slashed by razor blades during the production of this ve...

Great song, written by Steve Goodman and recorded by Arlo Guthrie and Willie Nelson among others. It describes his train journey from Chicago down to New Orleans.

A classic song, originally a movie theme. Check out Beck and Clapton's live version on TH-cam - Eric is so impressed by Jeff's guitar work that he comes in late with the vocals! Be grateful that I have spared you any vocals in this version ...

Mark Knopfler is in my list of the top 3 guitar players. Full stop. This one is dedicated to my friend BJ, who is a huge fan of Dire Straits. So am I.

Great song for reminiscing. I had to change the year because 1969 was not a good one for me - 1965 was much better!

This song was written by Hank DeVito, D. Cowart and W. Cowart. Hank DeVito was a member of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band. The song has been recorded by both Dave Edmunds and Albert Lee. I much prefer Albert's version, it is less frantic than Dave's. Interestingly, Dave invited Albert to contribute the solo on his own version.

An Everly Brothers classic, also recorded with her usual brilliance by Linda Ronstadt.

This song was released in 1965 by the Mindbenders, after Wayne Fontana had parted company with the band. One of its members was Eric Stewart, who later became one of the original members of the hugely successful 10cc.
