🇳🇿 New Zealand North Island 🌋 Tongariro Alpine Crossing 📍Rotorua 📍 Hobbiton Movie Set
We came back to New Zealand to explore the North Island. 🇳🇿 I am in love with New Zealand and the diversity of its places and landscapes!
The mission of this trip was to do one of the most famous and scenic hikes in NZ and in the world: the Tongariro alpine crossing at Tongariro National Park. It’s a 19hrs hike 🏃🏻♀️ through a volcanic valley with 1800m elevation.
Hiking through active volcanoes was out of this world🌋 so surreal, like walking on the Moon or Mars!
Check out these stunning views of the Red Crater and the Mount Ngauruhoe, last erupted in 1977! Isn’t it gorgeous?😍
North island of New Zealand 🇳🇿 is opening up with more exciting and new stuff for us. There is the whole big area of thermal springs and you can visit lots of parks around Rotorua town.
We went to Wai-O-Tapu, with this beautiful champagne pool which changes the colours depending on the sunlight. There are also lots of other exciting things to see like boiling mud pools, springs and hot pools with different shapes and colours! The spell of sulphur though is revolting.🤢
After an exciting and tiring walk around Wai-O-Tapu among tons of tourists under a scorching sun, it was a good idea to unwind and reenergise at one of the most popular spa’s in Rotorua- Polynesian spa. 🛁

There are multiple private and common acidic and alkaline mineral pools with stunning views on the lake. Quite a relaxing experience 🧖🏻♀️

Watch out, the sulphur smell will linger on your skin for a while 🤦🏻♀️ the whole town was smelling funny :)
📍Hobbiton Movie Set, not to be missed while in the North Island of New Zealand. For “Lord of the Rings” 💍 fans and just those who want to immerse themselves into a little fairytale town. This is the place to be! Just about 2 hours away from Auckland near Matamata town. It’s spread on a 1250acre sheep farm with beautiful rolling hills and lush green landscape.

There are only guided tours on the movie set, therefore, you cannot visit the tour by yourself. It’s a bit pricey (89NZ$ per person) and lasts 2 hours. It seems that 2 hrs is enough, however considering how big the territory is and how all the hobbiton holes are all differently arranged, believe you will feel rushed. But, oh well, it is what it is and you’ll have to be quick!

📸 snapping photos quickly avoiding the crowd, which is almost impossible, and trying to enjoy all the beautiful little details of the village!!!🤩 and there was a nice bonus at the end of the tour: a free drink at “🐉The Green Dragon Inn“🍻

yes, we hired a car and drove around Perth. highly recommend hiring a car, gives you flexibility and you'll be able to visit more places on the way. Enjoy your trip!

Just a note for the map at 2:30, you actually showed the drive to the Ski Tube base terminal at Bullocks Flat. However, the actual drive you did to Perisher itself you missed completely.

My first trip there was in 2002 in July. It was blowing hard the whole time, but I still managed to get some fishing in. Next trip was much better, and booked to go again very soon.

hi, no, we came back to Fremantle on the way from Margaret river. If you want to explore the whole island and Fremantle as well, it might be a bit rushed.
