One: When applying for a passport, get the TSA “Pre,” “Clear,” and “Global Entry”. It makes going through security faster, there’s fewer and shorter lines, fewer crowds and you don’t have to take off your shoes. Two: When making reservations, ask to be in the bulkhead section. This is usually located behind the first class section at the beginning of the business or economy section of the plane. It has more legroom and is usually the most quiet section of the plane. Three: Request to board the plane first. This gives you more room, more time, and more quiet to get yourself settled in on the plane. I am an Inward (Autistic)- officially diagnosed as a kid but was not told about it! I only learned of this 6 years ago (I’m 61 now). The tips mentioned above have helped me tremendously in my travels!

Actually, with my struggles trying to find help for my cousin who has a Mom TOTALLY self -Centered and after contributing to his developmental challenges, has removed herself from his life. 😢 our grandson is non speaking and regarded as severely autistic…..he presently is being taught to use a letterboard at home ….the special needs school he attends will not allow the use of this method in his school saying it is not authentic or scientifically proven…..the young man telling his mother that he waited for her to find out he could understand and communicate reduced me to tears.

@@mimikyu__- There's a reason why this communication method (RPM/Spelling) isn't practiced at schools. Look into Facilitated Communication and the disastrous history surrounding it. RPM/Spelling is a modern offshoot of this, despite what proponents of it try to say. To avoid making the same mistake they made when integrating something that had no scientific efficacy behind it, they've chosen to wait until there's evidence to prove this method isn't just the same thing as Facilitated Communication before using it. Schools use other communication methods like an AAC device to help nonspeaking kids communicate their wants and needs.

I am a speech pathologist. Where are you located? First, are they referring to facilitated communication .? Attaching "why" they are saying this. One, is the problem with methological flaws in the research and the other is their applying "researched outcomes" as being relevant for all autistic children and that becomes the problem. THey also get concerned about the kids become prompt dependent. Did you watch the Jacob Rock video? It wasn't until his FATHER had him in his grip for 24 hours during the pandemic that Jacob became fully integrated in using direction selection on a keyboard. THe problem with these kids is that they have apraxia, a motor planning impairment and if they have the capacity to learn letter, letter sound combinations and to learn to write, someone has to take the time to determine if they are a candidate. It is not that a letterboard is not appropriate. It is that they re going by the research on facilitated communication. I would like to know what you are doing with the letterboard and how he is doing with it. It is not 100 percent fool proof, but my feeling is a. that if they are going to have an ability to use the board, you will know it. Even if you have to do hand over hand in the beginning and then, start to fade the prompt from the hand to the wrist to see if they have the capacity to do the direction selection it is worth trying. If you are able to get private speech therapy on his insurance, you may get a therapist who is more willing to try it eventhough the American Speech and Hearing Association may not "approve" of it. It is evident that this individual as well as Jacob Rock had the capacity. facilitated communication documented outcome An experimental analysis of facilitated communication. - PMC National Institutes of Health (NIH) (.gov) www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov › articles › PMC1279809 by BB Montee · 1995 · Cited by 106 - We evaluated the authorship of messages produced through facilitated communication by 7 adults with moderate or severe mental retardation and their facilitators ... I love when he said “As you grow up you learn how to better express and vent your emotions, and if you keep them in you’re going to break down. Neurotypicals go through that too. It’s just that I can go through it more easily.” I like this quote and feel like it well represents my experiences with having Autism.

I really appreciate your passion and dedication and advocacy. The housing crisis is a mental health issue. Better mental health and quality of life and community is through long term stable tailored efficient and effective housing. And we have to understand we live in a world based upon the “evils” of a man made scarcity and realize there is this unfortunate “responsible logical adult” neurotypical idea (how are neurotypical people even normal? So weird) that we cannot enrich all of gods children and have them thrive. so thousands of people starve and die each day. Gods children! The economic system and its effect and impacts on mental health, health care and housing are a hidden pandemic. it doesn’t matter if the intent of these man made economically deprived government created systems were to boost up society to a thriving and loving environment. Maybe that was helpful during the industrial revolution. But we like to put bandaids on things. today we know we have the real resources, technology and science to educate and provide a fulfilling and successful life for all of gods children to thrive and excel to become a citizen that contributes to society through diverse but greatly needed art, science, music, technology, writing, archeology, psychology psychiatry and the like. Actual jobs that enrich and have a positive lasting impact on the community and advancement in understanding diversity, humanity and the beautiful world! Now we have to really define what a good quality of life is and what we consider to be contributing to society. We have to rethink are practices and perceptions and realize these deeply rooted misconceptions of “work ethic” and a “work and “quality of life” We are only as strong as our “weakest” or most marginalized, stigmatized and shunned abandon. Children of god dying everyday because of these man made systems. We have to think of the elderly as well and that soon we will have tons of humans unable to retire nor have a fulfilling enriched peaceful end of life that all humans deserve. A lot of the homeless are comorbid neurodiverse or disabled in someway intellectually and/or physically or suffer from substance abuse caused by trauma. The autistic experience and the way we view this world itself is traumatic! There are huge overlaps between asd/adhd/trauma and how they can be confused for one another and your diagnosis is based, not on you but the psychiatrist! That’s extremely problematic and we have to address this. Being a queer/ lgbtq assigned male at birth I identify more with assigned female at birth autistics who typically go through life undiagnosed and feeling alien. I heavily relied on masking to adapt and disliked my stemming. Now I embrace my stemming and learning to love myself. It’s a long road. 🌈🐝💜
