I saw your post on the "Jeep CJ5" Facebook group and glad you shared it! I "liked and "subscribed." 😉 I recently purchased a 62 CJ5 (one month ago today, actually). From what I can tell, the engine and transmission in mine are still original and I just got it to fire up for the first time and stay running for a few seconds last night. I had just dumped a little gas down the carb, so I knew it wouldn't run for much longer than that, but it gives me hope! Thinking about picking up a new fuel filter and dumping a couple gallons in the tank today and see if I can keep it running for a bit longer. That'll also be a good test for the tank and fuel pump. I, too, am an IT guy by day, and this is my first foray into any type of automotive restoration; thank god for TH-cam! My CJ also sat for ~10 years before I bought it, and the guy who previously owned it passed away, so I have zero information on any work that's been done to it. I guess that's part of the adventure! 😊

Mines a 2018 and I’ve put a ton of work into it, but I cannot even imagine the amount of work involved in resurrecting a rig as seasoned as this. Definitely a labor of love. We also have an 07 that we rebuilt with a Jasper engine and transmission, we’ve been very satisfied after they took care of the one issue that we did have with the transmission. Jeep life, enjoyed seeing the progression, thanks for sharing.

I sanded mine down all the way use the Apoxsee primer, 4K primer, silver metallic, and three coats of clear coat😂 they could be redone in 20 years I don’t know what kind of chemicals are going to leech out into the air with the stuff you use

Where did you buy the parts

The 2.0 L is a good motor. You don't have that stupid oil filter cartridge thing going on. Plus the housings for the V-6 filters are made of plastic. We had a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.2 V-6. With approximately 70,000 miles, the housing cracked while we were going down the road and we lost 5 quarts of oil before the engine light came on.

Sweeeeeeet rims and tires!!!! Sarge green rocks!!!! Soft top is the only way to go, my gladdy is super quiet with the softy!

I got mine 2023 Willys with 2L Turbo because they removed the nasty unreliable eTorque junk from it that made it a lot more reliable then V6+eTorque. Also a saved me 2000 $.

What camera are you using?

I used corroseal on my jeep - remember that it's only a metal primer, and not a paint! Corroseal will let go, because it's not UV stable, and will flake off after about a year. (It's happened to me) I did that two years ago, and the rust has not returned. I first while wheeled everything with a drill and an angle grinder, then I washed the area with dish soap and water (rust is a result of water, or contaminants, the soap and water gets the contaminants off), then I used corroseal to get the rust that I was not able to remove with grinding and washing, that was in the pits. I think I did 3 coats. Then I painted over it with tractor paint, or herculiner depending on the area. I preferred using a brush over a spray can - it's cheaper, and you get more paint on the surface. The thicker the paint, the more protection you have. Scuff with sandpaper between each coat, and remove the dust with a rag and mineral spirits. My jeep was all rusted out in places, and I had to weld it back together, but wanted to save what I could. So far that treatment of the rust has worked very well! I also sprayed part of the bottom with wax undercoat, but it just seems to make everything hard to work with. Sarge is better than a Rubicon - he doesn't need a badge to know that he will make it down the Rubicon Trail! He probably gets more attention than a new Rubicon anyway! My jeep does!

Yeah! I also have a 2 door soft top and had to order. Only problem I had is the dealership did not get my order exactly correct. IT was close enuf that I just took it as it arrived. Just fyi... I went with the Rubicon.

Did you obtain the proper licensing and permits to modify your vintage vehicle's electrical system? 🤨 - Or should we all just blindly trust that your CJ5 isn't going to catastrophically short-out and burst into flames sitting next to us at a stop light on the way to the mall? 🙄
