Replacing Air Operated Fan Clutch Friction Lining

Hopefully this will save someone some hassle in the future, it's a quick and easy repair if you can find the parts. My truck was overheating, found a leak in the fan clutch's air line which caused it to partially disengage burning the lining. After the lining burned out the fan was basically free wheeling, you could stop the fan with a piece of cardboard with the engine running. 8mm socket on a...

All fun and games till u run a stick up in a hose or radiator and then ur down in the woods till u get a fix. Wen guy is fast and ligit there is no banging and klanging and the machine doesn't sound like it's going to die constantly. As Sade would say that's a smooth operator. I’m having the same issue. I think I burned my friction lining on my fan clutch on my 14 Freightliner m2. It tries to engage and disengage but it’s leaking air. Does the friction lining hold the air in?

      I know this is an old comment but. I have to agree about the pines down here in the lowlands and the sandy soil. The Roots grow straight down and are the size of posts. They are a pain in the ass to get out of the ground. Oaks are easier to remove.

    • @nevin3123
      @nevin3123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RutherfordConLLC interesting. at first glance it seems like a dump would be easier to unload. do you mind sharing some of your reasoning behind a rear vs a dump? easier backing into jobs then pulling out loaded?

    • @RutherfordConLLC
      @RutherfordConLLC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A dump is easier to unload if you don't have to manage the yard after you've dumped. A rear mount unloads in to the consolidated pile. Unloading doesn't take long with the grapple. Being rear mounted gives you more area to work and less pretty paint to drop something on. Depending on what you're doing, a rear mount can pick up/carry something on tires easier than a mid mount (loading large stumps on to a flatbed trailer, for example). If the only downside is unloading, that's not much of a downside.

    • @michaelgoodwin5162
      @michaelgoodwin5162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rear mounts are much more common. They give you better range and the option to pull a grapple trailer. A good operator can unload brush and logs quickly. Small material such as soil and firewood sized material takes some time.

    I have Svl95 running same ground shark. When you move the boom up or down quickly does it engage the cutter motor break momentarily?

    • @RutherfordConLLC
      @RutherfordConLLC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sold those machines a while back... from memory it wouldn't apply a brake (there wasn't one on mine), but it would cut power to the mower since the hydraulic flow was being diverted.

    When you are pulling the roots from the back of the tree, have you had any experience were the tree want to lean back towards you? I have the same setup and I need to pull trees near a ditch bank. Any advice you may have I would greatly appreciate it.

    • @RutherfordConLLC
      @RutherfordConLLC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pulling the roots will decrease the stability of the tree, the lean of the tree will dictate what you can get away with. I'd suggest starting where you can't hurt anything else and learn as you go. You can use another machine with a rope/cable/whatever to help control larger trees.

      I’ve had one for a little less than a year. I’m a full time stump grinder. I’ve had mine in the shop a lot. Had a problem with the belt breaking over and over again. They had to put a different type of belt tensioner on it. I’m also having the muffler replaced for the second time. So, that’s an issue. Also, had a problem with the cylinder that the arm sets on. The bearding inside that cylinder had an issue because of some plastic part inside the cylinder. They had to replace it with a metal one. It’s a great machine when I don’t have it in the shop, but I’ve had some problems.

    So for tree removal, you clearly prefer the ripper? I have to admit, I'm quite surprised at how much you did with that machine. I really thought it took 40,000 lb excavators to knock down trees. I had no idea. Great video.

    • @RutherfordConLLC
