Preparing for the PADI Mask removal and replacement Skill
มุมมอง 21K6 ปีที่แล้ว
If you find the mask removal and replacement skill hard, don't worry. Here at Leagues Ahead Diving in Gran Canaria we have created a video that will show you some steps you can take that will make the mask removal and replacement skill easier!
Amazing... I am currently doing my open water diver and have to do the mask removal tomorrow..... You took away my anxiety almost completely and I am confident I will do it tomorrow🥰 Thankssss
Great video
Great video, thanks for your suggestions!
The useless masks and people using them like sheeps. Forever saved on the internet.
This is the best video I've seen since 2007. I have today lost out on the chance to complete my OW due to being unable to do this skill. To make matters worse, my confined dives were in the sea - just 17C, it was fairly windy and we needed 2 wetsuits to stay warm enough. I found this video at the end of day 1 and was not given much additional time by the instructor when I mentioned the techniques used in this video. He said he knew of them yet not a single one was mentioned by him.. funny that! I bought a snorkel to go with my mask and spent 60 minutes in the hotel pool myself tonight - and was able to do this 3 times back-to-back without coming above the surface. This video should be part of training! Thank you so much!
Good video, thank you!
Did our first dive with these guys recently and can't recommend them highly enough. Everything they said they'd do, they did. The dive wasn't perfect due to weather that had reduced the visibility a bit and that can't be helped but it was as 'perfect' as it could have been. Felt completely safe at all times. The team are just right.
Well, As long as scuba divers wear a regulator mouthpiece in their mouth, that's what got me interested in scuba diving.
Haha yes hopefully!!
Hola de España. Grancaria. Megusta. Todo. Lo que. Veo. De. Ti
Muchas Gracias!!! :D X
Fantastic video!! I had no idea there was a 'World Record' for Seascooters!! Your content is super cool... Here is my take on the Aquajet H2 product though for those genuinely interested in Seascooters. I'd like to point out that 9kmph is only 5.5mph.. There are plenty of Seascooters that can and do travel at a proven 5mph (0.5mph makes very little difference) and unlike the Hoverstar Aquajet H2, they are smaller, more compact, more agile, feel faster, and because they are more compact and running off compact Li batteries, the alternatives are also carry-on approved and can be taken as hand luggage on flights to pretty much any holiday destination. I think maybe the theoretical speed of the Aquajet H2 might be 9kmph, however it's weight and weigh probably doesn't benefit it in all honesty. It's competition, The Yamaha Seawing2 and RoboSea Seaflyer, are both very popular products around those people that know about Seascooters and they are affordable and easy to use. They do ALL the cool things use see the Hoverstar AquaJet H2 do in the promotional videos, and more. So question is... What disadvantage does the Aquajet H2 have over its competition? Here's a brief glance... AquaJet H2 - It dives to 20 metres Max, it weighs 14kg and due to it's cool looking wing design (which are removable) its big, and can be awkward to store, travel with or use in a swimming pool. RoboSea Seaflyer - Dives to 30 Metres, weights only 3.7 kg!! Is carry-on approved for flights to holiday destinations making travelling with it ridiculously easy and can be used in Pools too, without upsetting other swimmers due to it's compact design, while makes it feel more agile and quicker in the water too! Yamaha Seawing2 - This is basically identical to the Robosea Seaflyer, so has the same advantages. I do like the design concept of the Aquajet H2... It's just far too big, and hard to utilise in multiple applications in my opinion. If you are paying that kind of money, you want to be able to use it at every opportunity... The Sea, a swimming pool, in a lake, or gentle river etc! After you've been for a swim/dive in the sea, got out of the water and walked back up or along the Beach... Who wants to be carrying 14kgs!? It's quite a weight to carry for a long distance. Or say you wanted to stop for lunch at a Beach/Dive restaurant/Bar etc.. Would you wanted to be carrying something so big and heavy around? For people looking for great alternatives... I recommend checking out these companies on Instagram potentially. instagram.com/seascooter_uk/ instagram.com/aquatoys_uk/?hl=en www.aquatoys.co.uk/product-category/seascooters/ Seascooters are cool, environmentally friendly due to all electric power, and no harmful oils, fluids that can leak into the sea. They are made of plastic sure, but it's not single use plastic and if maintained correctly can provide years of fun, other people the chase to explore the natural habitat of marine life in the water with very little disturbance. I've used them for years, I'm a qualified BSAC Dive instructor and I rate the products and experience highly, for those who love the ocean and the beautiful wildlife in it! Best Wishes to all! :)
Thank you so much for this wealth of information! it is great to have your feedback!!
Point of FACT: This is a piece of junk. It is notoriously unreliable, it weighs a ton, it is actually NOTnimble at all underwater but cumbersome to even turn quickly. Anyone who has truly used this knows I am telling the truth. The "speed button" is very unreliable and will only likely work for a short time before failing. AND the company put this out to market and then abandoned it within 3 years. No help, no support and NO replacement parts. I paid over $1200 for this and got maybe a total of 10 uses out of it - and this with not one but 2 replacement right wings which house the failed (twice!) speed button. Now the distributor cannot help me because the manufacturer (another fail from SHENZEN) has not only stopped selling it but will not provide replacement parts. In short I got screwed. BUT it sure LOOKS nice. Do NOT buy new (if you can even find one now) DO NOT buy used - you have my guarantee the seller is trying to dump it in disappointment. It should be some kind of international crime that a company can make somethjing and then sell it worldwide only to dump it a few years later, leavinbg the consumer ripped off with no recourse. Be very suspicious of the Shenzen based company, HAVOSPARK that made this joke and be very cautious about any other products they may produce. You will be sorry if you waste your hard earned US dollars on their products
This is so helpful!! Wish i had seen this before my open water course! Did everything except mask removal and clearing :(
Don't worry! You will get there!! Keep practicing and you will ace it! I hope to see you one day as a certified diver! X
Hi can talk you Padi I want work in that ❤can talk me
Good luck!! X
Is a Wet Suit needed at this time of year? I'm flying out to GC next week?
Hi Gareth, yes we recommend a wetsuit. The water is about 20 degrees, so a nice 5mm suit would be perfect! :)
are you a certified scuba diver
Yes :) X
@@leaguesaheaddivinggrancana8838 who is your dive buddy and do you have your own scuba gear like wetsuit and dive gloves and dive hood and dive boots and dive fins and dive mask and scuba tank and bcd and regulator to breath from and how long did take you to do your scuba training and how dose it feel to breath underwater with scuba regulator
are you a certified scuba diver
It would be awesome if they found a way to make into a vest or backpack kind of thing, that you could wear it, so it would propel you underwater, that would be the ultimate chill snorkeling session
Can i snorkel with hou Guys?
Thank you so much for the video! I had a freak out after a couple of years of no diving after covid and was scared about removing mask. So I did this with an instructor friend this morning who wasn’t going to do the first prep stages. I asked if I could start at putting face in water with no mask and reg only! It worked. I also found my mask was too tight which we wouldn’t have discovered if we didn’t do the surface prep! Within fifteen mins I was at 6m removing my mask confidently! Thank you ❤
Hi Emma, I am so happy to hear that it helped! Definitely, after a while of not removing the mask, it isn't something that you want to do so I am really glad you got over the fear and accomplished it! I hope you have many amazing diving adventures and thank you for your feedback!! 🥰
Great for all that was explain to about learning scuba diving.
Thank you Matthew 🥰
Gonna try this tomorrow- thanks
I hope it helped!! Let us know how you get on! :) X

Best Snorkelling Spots in Gran Canaria: Sardina, Tufia, Tiritaña, El Cabron, Risco Verde, Taliarte and the best with huge difference: Las Canteras
Thank you for your comment, Luis! Tufia and Risco Verde are great! The good thing about Amadores and Mogan is that they are great snorkelling locations but also easily accessible for those who are on Holiday here by bus or by car whereas Tiritana and El Cabron are a little bit harder if you don't know the island or have a rental car :) I will have to snorkel some more in Las Canteras! :)
I have this issue with water going up nose then panic and having to shoot up to surface 🙈 going to practice this
Don't worry you will get there! It takes time but with a little practice, you will be enjoying it in no time!! Let us know how you get on and good luck! :D
Sorry to see your channel go on hold, your videos are very fun and easy to understand.
Thank you for your comment and for watching our videos! Hopefully, soon we will get back to creating more! :)

Great video will try more of these spots next time i get out there. Been to mogan a few times and enjoyed it so much.
Thank you for watching and I am so glad it could be of some use to you! I hope in the future you will be able to explore the other snorkelling sites as they are worth checking out and let us know if you do! :) My kindest regards, Sophie from Leagues Ahead Diving
Hello I have a question plz
Hello Ahmed, How can I help you? Please never hesitate to ask questions!! :)
@@leaguesaheaddivinggrancana8838 I am planning to do scuba diving during my visit to Spain this year. I will be with my fiancée, neither of us dived before and was wondering if we can both be diving together at the same time because I was told by a PADI trainer that he can’t take both of us at the same time without an introduction first?
@@ahmedesmael6843 Hi Ahmed, yes you should be able to dive together, a PADI Instructor is able to take four Discover Scuba divers diving together at the same time. However, it does depend on the policy of the diving school, the confidence levels of the students and many other factors including dive site, age, etc.. If he wants to conduct training one on one, this sounds like it can only be a good thing! :) I hope you have an amazing first dive!!
Thank you for the amazing scuba diving tour today!!!!!!! That was really awesome!!!!!!!!! We enjoyed it sooooo much!!!!!👍😄🤩🐟
Thank you guys and congratulations on completing your first dive, you were both awesome! I hope you have many more diving adventures in the future!! Have a wonderful rest of your holiday! Kindest regards, Sophie :) X

So what did eventually happen? I found you by accident but I’m so down to meet you next time I’m on the island. Keep it up! Congrats for this channel.
Unfortunately due to the pandemic we postponed the event until this year/start of next year, we will definitely try again but our timing was a little off! Thanks for watching the videos, we would love to meet you also! Hope you are well and hope to see you soon! :)
Hi, I've been following your channel for a long time and everything in your videos has always been spectacular. The sessions are great, the quality is fantastic... this channel is absolutely brilliant and you helped me a lot with the majority of my curiosities about scuba diving, thank you so much, I appreciate everything you do on TH-cam, good job! Anyway, I would like to make a suggestion (if it's not a problem for you): I'm convinced that you can add a really funny video on your channel to show us some of the funniest things happened while scuba diving, swimming or even during other water activities, something like a "oops and bloopers" compilation. For example, you could gather all of the times where some divers get recorded on video during their ops time... like a pee time! Once, my uncle, who is a scuba diver too, wrote “I’m peeing right now 😊” on a waterproof notebook and it was soooo hilarious and funny. He always tells me there are 2 types of swimmers, divers and surfers: those who pee in the water and those who lie. If you want, you could also include those "releasing" moments as small clips in the future videos just to keep having a bit of humor on your channel, you can use both old and new clips, what do you think? Yeah… I know, it could sound weird for your right now, but, in my opinion, it's the funniest thing about divers and swimmers, believe me. When a diver pees in the water, I think they demonstrate to be someone who is not afraid of consequences or to be judged and they just enjoy the moment, no matter what happens. And if you can't tell when someone else does it, well, you could ask them to do a particular sign before they do it, I think it's something that can come out great! I'd be so so happy to watch it, let me know, have a wonderful day!
Hello! So glad that you have enjoyed the videos, it is really nice to hear! I love that idea, James loves making funny videos so I think he will be down for something like this, I will let him know and maybe in the future, we might try it. Thank you for watching!! Have an awesome day! :) X

If someone can't remember not to breathe through their nose with their mask off, they have no business underwater 🤣🤣🤣
It's quite a common problem, it is just a natural instinct :D x
Even when I breathe out of my mouth air still goes in and out my nose. I'm afraid it will go up my nose even though I'm breathing through my mouth. 😓

I am doing my open water now as a dm intern. This skill with the 1 min mask off has me atm. That one and the no mask swim are my only 2 skills I'm having issues with. I must get this

@@leaguesaheaddivinggrancana8838 that you so much Sophie. I redid the skil today! I used a head tilt to the right and took my time and got it! Also did a breathing in the shower last night with mask. It helped. I got to perfect it now and train and practice it now! I did it 2 times today! And I'm always willing to take advice of course on anything you may think of that I may come across on my road to dm. Shop is thinking I'll hit dm by end of summer here in Florida
@@shifty8624 That's awesome, well done! Tilting your head prevents the bubbles from going into your nose so is a really clever technique! :) Practice makes perfect, and once you have perfected the skill, make sure to repeat it in the future to make sure that you stay confident with it. Good luck with the Divemaster course, we hope to meet you under the water one day :) x
So I did this skil with my nose plugged and got it. I'm still having issues with water in my nose when I unplugged my nose. Is there anything I can do to get this done as practice in my pool?
@@shifty8624 Have you tried snorkelling without the mask? This will get you used to the feeling of your nose being exposed to the water! This is cool guys! I was going to suggest BP/W to cut down on the drag from the BCD, but the switch to sidemount may allow you to put weights on your back while additionally allowing you to swap bottles quicker? You may also be able to remove the octo hose to reduce some drag further. If you do go BP/W or Sidemount, might pay to test a Y-style crotch strap for comfort! Good Luck!
I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe a combination, you're welcome to use my BP/W as always, James :)
Hello Logan, really great advice. We are going to remove the octo's for the attempt. We have a new BCD on its way that is much closer to a wing BCD so we'll see what difference that makes and then maybe switch to side mount after that. Thanks for the advice mate :)
