Pam was amazing. I had the privilege of singing a duet with her several times. It was like a Camaro or Mustang (me) playing on a race track with a Formula 1 car. She was so gracious and encouraging. I miss her.

I was lucky enough to treat Graham to sushi in San Francisco after one of the performances there. But my introduction was opening night of Ghosts, where he was just one of a cast to die for.

I recorded this off the air on a VCR when it first aired 30 years ago, then transferred it to a DVD about 15 years later, and have enjoyed it countless times over the decades. It was one of the most wonderful galas every produced. Thanks for posting it - my DVD is showing signs of wear and tear after so many years and your post is much more crisp. And thanks for your performance in the gala. Just wonderful!

Absolutely extraordinary! And no trashy modern perversity in the production. Alas, today this opera is so abused by sexualised scenery, while the subject is rather sad, of an abused child. We can see how attitudes changed since the times of Wilde and Strauss, and certainly the Bible. What a performance! Bravissima! The tenor Herod and mezzo Herodiade are also excellent.
