Building A Cordwood Log Cabin | Episode : 00 | off grid remote hand built mortgage free
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
We are building a remote, off grid log cabin on our property. We are doing it all ourselves, by hand. The method is known as stack wall, stove wood masonry, cord wood building and other names. This is mortgage free and debt free. We use trees that we harvest from our property. Mostly white pine and some red pine. We use lime putty mortar, an ancient building technique. This is the first episode...

One man toils to open a massive culvert clogged with a robust beaver dam. This took place over a couple days. this is not my job and I am not paid to address this culvert. It is, however, in my vested interest to not see this culvert overwhelmed. Spring melt and recent rains have allowed the beaver to build higher than ever before. Let us know in the comment section if you have a better techniq...

This video is of a couple people pulling apart a beaver dam by hand. This beaver dam has been here for a while. It is at the back of a property and is killing large fir and spruce trees. It is almost a mile hike to get to it. I chose to take a come-along and grapple as opposed to a hand tool for the hike. It has significant amount of living roots, moss and earth as a foundation. Removing the sticks and debris on top first would have made the tasks much easier. I see a lot of struggles to pull sticks embedded at the bottom of the dam

      hello Joanne. I can see why you would say that. We try to prevent the water overflow as long as possible. Once the flow begins, it is so strong that it is difficult to see and reach through. It also can wash away your footing. It would certainly be nice to be able to start at the top. Thanks for watching.

      We just finished up another that is much more climactic. It will take a couple days before it can be uploaded. Great suggestion to leave some tools nearby. Hopefully the little bugger won't find them and weave them into his dam. We were really surprised at the size of the logs the little guy could move into place.

      It is truly amazing not only the width but the length of the trees that they are capable of using. .They move the logs by using the water to float them in place. Watching them manuver and repeatably shove, push them into place using their mouths is incredible.

    Check out these TH-cam channels: Terrell Spivey, Gene Plumley and post10. Each of these channels focus on pulling a beaver dam manually with great success, using tools like potato rakes, shovel, saw, axe and techniques like flowing water to help wash mud and dirt. Each channel also shows how to film for great watching views! I look forward to following your channel.

    Beavers are essential for stream health and keeping the waters moving more slowly, saturating the banks, minimizing erosion, increasing riparian plant life and extending the months that the stream flows which increases fish populations. A lot of restoration efforts have been made, successfully, with the reintroduction of beavers; even in very arid places such as Nevada and Arizona. I’m not sure why you’re doing that but if that’s your land, you might want to consider what an asset they are and how they benefit other many other species and improve the quality of your land. Hope you will..🙏

      @MaineForestAndFarm ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of info. Thanks. I'm sure it's wonderful for Arizona and Nevada. Here in Maine, we have rivers, streams, ponds and other waterways riddled throughout the land. This empties into wetlands. Thanks for watching.

    See if you had something there that would mulch mulch all that up they couldn't take what you already taken out and put it back if you mulch it up somebody needs to invent a mulcher with sparkles on them and you put it down in there and mulch all that up and keep it marked up around there they wouldn't have any materials to build a damn or for it to stop up drains or anything else for that matter there's too many lazy people out there who haven't figured that out yet instead they just keep working on the problem and they think killing the animal is the best but it's not God intended for the animal to stay here on Earth not to be extinct and not to be killed me personally I think if you had a mulcher they put all that mess out and mulch it all up the beaver couldn't make a damn with mulch it's already chopped up and if you kept it cleaned up around there mulch down every year or right at when it starts turning cold and it ain't like season you might even keep the snakes down but that's me hallelujah amen God bless stay safe from the coronavirus amen again
