Good overview. Had a few Martin D’s in my day and your assessment is pretty spot-on. REALLY strong on the mid range, bit more subdued on the bottom and top. Absolutely GREAT for slapping out a strong country or bluegrass rhythm.

I think because Taylor guitars tend to be generally bright, they match really well with the mellower hardwood tops. I recently got a 424ce (all) walnut and I love it.

It has Mahogany binding, not Koa.

Drop D tuning on this video. The back and sides of the D-40 Traditional are African Mahogany (not Honduran). That's the way Guild designed it. I have one of these. It took a long time to open up, but I do like it a lot.

Thanks for the demo. However, I think it's important to show a variety of styles when demoing. Great to see the fingerpicking, but also want to hear how a guitar sounds strummed with a pick (a very different tonal profile).

I don’t agree with you that the D 15M is not very suitable for a finger style player. I play almost exclusively finger style and achieve a very rich and full articulation of the sound.

I'm dying to see a F-55 e comparison to the F-512. What's the difference?

Hardwood tops are cool. I am currently attempting a 100% Ipe wood guitar. Not for the faint of heart. Its one of the hardest woods in the world. And tonally it sounds like a sheet of glass.

For anyone watching this video, this guitar is actually bigger at the bottom bout than a Dreadnought, it is the same as a jumbo, 16". A Martin dreadnought is 15 5/8.

Agree fully with the above comments. Earlier this year I visited my local Martin dealer, Kevin's in JAX. I saw one of these for the first time and was initially attracted by its appearance. A rare thing to see a burst on a Martin, and over the darker Ovangkol it was gorgeous. Then I picked it up and played it. It only took about 2-3 bars playing a 'reference' tune and I knew I would be back the next day to take her home. So it was. She is not my first Martin, I have a D-35 and a D12-28 and owned 2 others before. I own vintage J-50 and FC-30 Cabellero guitars. This OMC16e has become my primary guitar, gets more play than ALL the others and is my go-to stage instrument. I have had other players comment on it's clear and balanced articulation and even tonal palette. The mids are not scooped out like on my D-35, a booming beast. The OMC is also more comfortable to play. She is far from the most (or least) expensive Martin I have played, but is hands down the best Martin instrument for my use I have ever played. She has earned the name "Brown Dog". Who doesn't love a brown dog?

Sweet little guitar, but the price tag (around 4K EUR) does not make any sense at all. Half of that would be steep for what you're getting for the money. No disrespect intended.

Guild F-512: The 12 string benchmark. The power and tone is unequalled imho.

Just purchased a Breedlove Discovery African Mahogany. The tone is awesome, the craftsmanship is dead one spotless. It plays as well as my Martin and Sounds extremely close to a Taylor. Guitar of equal quality would be right $2000. Mine is a 2023 and is much nicer than the one in the video. Price is slightly above 500 now. Play one, you will love it.
