Austin Scelzo IBMA 2024 Industry Involvement Award Finalist
This award recognizes industry professionals that are new to bluegrass music and have shown, for the first time in their careers, outstanding contributions to their particular field during the eligibility period. Broadly defined, roles in industry involvement may include journalists, broadcasters (radio, TV, podcasts, internet/web, and other forms), historians/folklorists, photographers, graphic designers, luthiers, music producers, sound engineers, event promoters, publicists, agents, international organizers, association leaders, arts administrators, teachers/educators, and other innovators. Candidates are considered on the degree to which they have contributed to bluegrass music in general, or to a specific part of the industry, whether regionally, nationally, or worldwide. Any candidate who has reached the final ballot in any other IBMA Bluegrass Music Award category, or in a Momentum category more than twice in previous years, will no longer be eligible for this award.

You may have learned the melody to country classics like "Faded Love" - but what do you play for the rest of the song when you are accompanying a singer? We will look together at some of the common country idioms, like suspensions, color notes like the 6th and the 9th, echoing phrases, and other ways of playing tastefully behind a singer.
How to Hear Chord Changes and the Nashville Number System
มุมมอง 6802 หลายเดือนก่อน
The first step is to hear the "home chord", referred to as the "1" chord. Do this by listening to the last note played or sung in any major section of a song, for example the end of a verse or chorus. Sing that note on the word "ONE" The rest of the chords are found through their relationship to "1", so when you hear a chord change, you can sing the root note on a neutral syllable, then walk up...

Great lesson! I’ve always loved the 6ths in swing. Nice way to incorporate in the scale. Loved the backing music, can you provide the reference?
Excellent lesson , great presentation

I like you don't correct your mini mistakes , to give us ,students, the idea that also maestro's have their moments of lack of concentration.😊 I love this waterfall exercise, thanks from Belgium.
Haha Thank you- Yes I was a school teacher for 4 years and I remember thinking- I could never "re-do" a take of a school orchestra class, and those kids ended up learned a ton from my consistency and willingness to show up. I didn't want perfection to get in the way of showing up and using what I know to help people learn consistently
very cool
you have Hardanger Bridges?
Thank you. Syncopated rock style drum beat with cymbals distracting. Not very bluegrass. Maybe use Strum Machine.
I would pay you if you would please transcribe this music so I could work up to it slowly! That would be mighty helpful. trying to imitate it is just too hard!
wonderful... I like it.. thank you all
Great teacher and musician!!!❤
thankyou for your information..
Buy a Banjo instead! 😊
@@jaygraboski3587 hahaha or get both ;) speaking of banjo - we need more at JAMuary- are you coming? Martin Luther King Day weekend - bluegrass jam retreat
or didgeridoo. it goes well with violin and or banjo...if the didgeridoo is a D: Angeline the Australian baker.
At the fiddle shop?? 😭😭
Tnx
How do you like the E20OM I have the E10D-TC but have been thinking about getting E20Om or the E40Om but can't make up my mind haha

Learned a lot! Thanx! 😂
Wow! This is GREAT! 😂
Could you do a video on Diamond Joe by Colter Wall?
This was fun! I haven’t done music since choir in high school and i don’t know any instruments. I’m dying to learn to harmonize given those limitations!
Any advice on how to grow hair out like this?
Lots of patience through the awkward stage haha

❤😂😢😮🎉😊
Does this relate at all to (2) playing i Dorian and (6) playing in Aeolian. Or am I that confused?
@@hutchwd I'm not sure I understand your connection. Most people who like to think of modes use dorian for minor7 chords and aeolian for regular minor chords but those aren't happening in this video
I hope I can play this in my advanced strings club at school.
@@TrainLover-wt9ix You should, it's so much fun!
Great Picture of what to expect and look for ...lots of basic information in such a short video ...Great Synopsis and Presentation 😊🎉
😂❤🎉😊
Nice camera angle 😊
Excellent Presentation, I Enjoy your pleasant and encouraging demeanor.😅🎉and the content of your instructions
Great lesson. But what happened to the focus on your camera?
Oops! I think the problem was on my end.
One of your best ever lessons Austin. You have a gift for teaching and helping folks really understand key concepts. Thanks!
@@anne-marieforer That's so kind thank you!!!! 🙏
Thanks fiddle Jesus

😊😊
What’s the name of this song? You guys are really good musicians
@@BurntRice4 Stoney Lonesome - it's a Bill Monroe fiddle tune
Playing this in different keys for a couple of minutes seems like a good thing to incorporate into a warmup routine.
@@tomsmart1970 absolutely!
amazing stuff, this tune reminds me oh a forced bible song we had ti sing at school in scotland in the 80s,..."give me oil in my lamp keep it burning....give me oil in my lamp I prey"
Super helpful!
Thank you Austin! You're an excellent teacher. This helped me tremendously.
@@laurasinclair8712 My pleasure! So glad you found this helpful :)
