there was this girl who used to play this song everytime i was in her car. we used to sing along everytime it comes out. until one day, like, after a month or so, we found ourselves again in her car, just after campus, on our way home. she was the nicest girl, she'd drive by my house to and from campus so we could ride together. we went to study English literature and art, so we had a lot of free time and we hung out together. a lot. i think she's from class of 97. probably why my English still suck to this day lol. so, as always, the song came out but i felt something different with her. she caught me taking a quick look at her face, then suddenly her face changed as she looked into my eyes and asked, "hey. so. anyways. do you know who sings this?" and i was like, "uhm, no...?!!" "well you gotta at least know the title, right? so we can ask around who sings it?" she seemed a bit nervous, she kept turning her face towards me and i was like, "uhm... maybe watch the road???" seemingly ignoring my last remark, she again insisted that i must know at least the song title. a bit annoyed, i asked her in return why did i have to know that. "if anything, i thought you'd know. (afterall) it's your song." she hastily pulled over the road and turned her head completely around to face me, completely ignoring the dark road in front of us. "how is this 'MY SONG'"? her voice raised in confusion. i was thinking to myself like, "damn, i can't believe this girl." shaking my head, i tried to explain to her, "well you kept playin' it! doh!" a bit in shock, as evident in her face, she replied, "but i played it for you..." we both kept silent for what seemed like a few hours but i'm pretty sure was just a couple of seconds. we just didn't know what else to say. then she continued, "because you seem to like it so much and you'd sing along everytime." i knew at that moment she meant to tell me how she felt about me and she was having a hard time trying. i felt strongly she needed help, just a nudge from me to show that it's ok or that there's a slight indication that i might have felt the same way. she was grasping for straws. strunggling to come up with something else to say. and i just sat there. well i had my reasons. among others, i was in shock, actually. long story short, she never said anything else and it was the last time we ever talked. i still can remember that night. i always felt bad about it. about her. about us. it was one of the best 24 days of my life riding around in her car. ever since that moment, i always tell girls "you are the 2nd most beautiful girl in the world". they all asked who the #1 is and i always lie by saying that it's my future daughter. it isn't. it's you. and this is OUR song. thank you. and i am sorry.
She moves album was one of my ALL TIME favorite cds!! I wore it out!! And I still have it!! These girls needed better recognition. Miss the 90s so much!! BREAKING ALL THE RULES!!
