RSFF fly tying Monday night, 7:00 pm, Orvis Perkins-Rowe. This month, Sydney Dobson will lead us in tying Drew Chicone’s Disco Shrimp. Originally designed to target mangrove snapper in south Florida, this gurgler variant provides realistic topwater profile and plenty of fish catching sound courtesy of a built-in rattle.
As always, beginners are welcome. Come and tie or just watch. Materials are provided, you bring tools and thread. For those without tools, the club has some for use during the session. Come early and check out the great items Orvis has in stock.

Fly fishing a beautiful creek in Louisiana for spotted bass and pan fish. I didn't bring the go-pro this time, but captured plenty of photos and videos with my camera. Serene and peaceful, didn't see or hear another human all day.

Going for Gar - Chasing Gar on the Fly in Louisiana
มุมมอง 794 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thanks to Ken “the Garfather” for being my guide on this beautiful day! Follow along as we travel outside the Mississippi River levee system, to an oxbow lake deep in the heart of Louisiana, to chase the elusive Louisiana Gar Slam. The ultimate goal is to catch all four species of Gar found in Louisiana on the same day. These long toothy beasts seem to be everywhere and nowhere all at once, cat...

With this spring’s Brood XIX Cicada emergence fresh in our minds, we’ve decided to postpone our tying of the Murdich Minnow until later in the summer. Instead, RSFF President, Brian Roberts, will walk us through tying the Expo Cicada. A great imitator of both annual and periodic cicadas, the crew plans to tie up the pattern in two colors, green (annual) and black/orange (periodic). For more inf...

First creek wade of summer 2024 - Spotted Bass on the fly in Louisiana
มุมมอง 1857 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally got out to a creek for a full day's wading, and finally got to really break in my new custom 7-weight rod built by Bluewater Rod Company in Florence, Alabama. I told Chuck at Bluewater that I wanted a rod for creek fishing, 8 feet long and quick loading, and man did he deliver! Lots of fish caught today, mostly all on topwater, with some vicious strikes. Hard to beat wading in a cool cr...

Spotted Bass wade trip - Fly Fishing in Louisiana
Sick pattern.🤘🏻
How am i just now finding your channel? Great vids! 👍🏻
Hell yea
Nice place. 😊❤
Have you ever fished the stretch between Greenwell Springs and Joor Road? Do you know if it’s walkable?
I have fished it at Waddell, which is in that stretch. It’s probably fine, but I think the corps of engineers has removed all of the laydowns. Best wade fishing in Louisiana is in Washington Parish
Thanks, we’re gonna wade it tomorrow.
Cool video and beautiful scenery!
Edit edit edit
forgot a clump of deer underneath the collar... makes a big difference in water pushing...
Braving that heat I see lol..
Best way to keep cool!
That was great. Worked real well without the go-pro, probably harder on you, but the compilation works and actually conveys the peace and serenity nicely. Beautiful spotteds and other fish! Flash flies may be simple and unremarkable but the fish love them. Cool shot of the bike; I take it that wasn't yours? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Kirk! Actually the GoPro is harder because the batteries don’t last and it overheats haha. Bringing a small mirrorless camera isn’t too much work, just have to remember to take a break from the fishing and take some pictures/videos every now and then!
I never caught a Shadow Bass in Louisiana. I have made up for that since then.
They are definitely hard to lure out of the brush, always a pleasant surprise to see one
Hello , I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?
I usually match to the size of the front hook, for a size 1 B10s I go with a medium or large size eye
Bra, I could of took you to grays creek this time of year and any shad fish pattern will get you a monster gar.
Do you see the big ones hanging out near the surface a lot? At old river they come up a lot but don’t stay on top long enough to sight fish them
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 Yes, you will see them rise sometimes. There is a 3-4 ft flat near the bayou part and there are so many gar you don't have to sight fish really. I have seen at 70+ lbs buffalo carp as well.
Thanks again buddy for posting this :)
Just got back from Arkansas, and it was a blast on the White River.
Awesome!! I’d love to make it up there some day, looks like you found some nice ones!
What's your rod and reel setup
8wt rod and Clouser minnows, kept it simple!
Those are my stomping grounds!!! I gotta ask why the trolling motor on the stern? Thanks!
It’s my buddy’s boat, he can move it to the bow if needed, but for fly fishing purposes it’s nice to keep the bow clear
What part of alabama are you in. Lol let me know if youre taking another trip there. Ill join.
Carp don’t care about glue lol
louisiana will forever be home! where i was born and raised... hurricane ida put me in Mississippi.. ive never used a fly rod but there's a gar tournament coming up soon can you help me???
That will get the job done :)
Oh, man thats a spotted bass killer for sure
Oh yeah, I’ve caught some good ones on it
sweet.. starting to get hot.. is that chitto?
Sweet fly brother :)
Thanks!
What river was this? Looking to make a trip to the Ouachita mountains to fly fish soon!
I’ve caught smallmouth in almost all of the larger rivers (Caddo, Little Mo, Cossatot, Ouachita) and several of the tributaries. Anywhere should be good! My recommendation would be to check the water levels, if it just rained a lot and the big rivers are high, try a creek or tributary, if it’s been dry try one of the main rivers. Good luck!
awesome :) be sure to go check out living waters fly fishing video on Rio Grande Cichlids! its really good :)
Nice job, Randy!!
POV : Ur himmy
Muito bom trabalho
nice video and some fine fish. Is that an ECHO river glass rod?
It’s the Echo Bad Ass Glass 6wt, enough backbone to throw a heavy crawfish fly but limber enough to still have fun with some sunfish!
🤝🙌✌
Thank you for uploading this :)
Sweet fly
I live in south Louisiana and am strictly catch and release. What creek is that? I love creek stomping.
Holy mackerel! Nice crappie, beautiful lake too. Congrats on getting some White Crappie!
Ive been binge watching your videos. What flys are you throwing?
In the saltwater a Clouser Minnow is hard to beat! Sometimes a kwan style shrimp
@downsouthflyfishing4931 what size? You really have me wanting to take my yak in the Mississippi marshes
Size 2 down to 6. You should try it, get back into some shallow water and see what’s out there!
Are you going to post the 19th meeting?
I didn’t record it unfortunately, still trying to figure out all the technology, hopefully next time I can get a recording
That longear got super ambitious. XD
They are aggressive! If they had bigger bigger mouths I’m sure I’d catch plenty on big streamers
Ahh yea, man you might fish more then me and thats saying something :) that camera attack should of been a slow motion action :)
Hoping spring starts soon! Then it’s on!
love the way you sculpted the head on that. Nice.
Nice. Now go catch one👌👌👌
Really nice and so beautiful there!
Curious how easy they are to find in San Pedro?! Great video! My girlfriend and I are going in May!
Yes, if you can find access to shallow water, you’ll see a bonefish eventually
Not unusual to see a few walking along the beach near San Pedro. I think those bones are tougher to catch than when you take a guide out into the backcountry, though.
Very true, I’ve mostly gone on boats with guides and caught tons each time, but if you are near water on a non fishing day bring a rod just in case!
hahahah love the fish
Couldn’t get him to bite!
What part of Louisiana is that in? looks like a place I have not been before lol
It’s the Pearl River Canal, basically an artificial oxbow of the Pearl River. The lower most section known as Lock 1 has some pretty clear water. Good kayak fishing!
Awesome tie! With deer season over, time to switch gears! What size wire do you use for the minis? I've seen guys use non metal cordage stuff. Also, no beads work well?
I just use 25 or 30 lb-test monofilament, no bead. Works great for these since there doesn’t need to be a huge gap between the 2 segments. Doesn’t foul that much, and when it does it’s usually due to a poor cast (never done that though ;) )
Beautiful fish! I haven't caught one in over twenty years. They look like fun with their fierce strikes.
They are fun, but it can be really hard to detect the strike sometimes. It’s like they pounce on it but then stop on a dime once they have it
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 ahhh, I see. I was thinking thrashers swimming right through the fly and spitting it out. Still sounds fun but I see know how you were damning the misses.
Occasionally you would feel them, but the one I caught I just happened to look down and the fish was on my fly out of nowhere
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 gotta love luck.
Thank your for sharing. Good stuff.
This way better than watching Kelly talk for an hour and a half
😂
No way dude Kelly the goat
@@chadleeper1 agreed but I can't do it every new pattern
Explanation helps the beginners, experienced don’t need to watch at all…
Im not much good with deer hair, although thats not a super technical spin. Veevus is tough for me and deer hair though.
Yeah these don’t need to be pretty, just fill out the rough shape, the less dense the better
Hey man great video, what’s the tool called you use to tie your knots around the eye for at the deer hair? That thing looks like a life saver.
I think that was just the back end of my bodkin, used as a half hitch tool. Definitely tricky to work around the hair
