RSFF fly tying Monday night, 7:00 pm, Orvis Perkins-Rowe. This month, Chris Williams, ties up one of his favorite warmwater patterns, the Clouser Swimming Nymph. Originally designed to target smallmouth bass on Bob Clouser’s home waters, the pattern has proven effective on a wide variety of warmwater species.
As always, beginners are welcome. Come and tie or just watch. Materials are provided, you bring tools and thread. For those without tools, the club has some for use during the session. Come early and check out the great items Orvis has in stock.

First creek wade of summer 2024 - Spotted Bass on the fly in Louisiana
มุมมอง 1312 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally got out to a creek for a full day's wading, and finally got to really break in my new custom 7-weight rod built by Bluewater Rod Company in Florence, Alabama. I told Chuck at Bluewater that I wanted a rod for creek fishing, 8 feet long and quick loading, and man did he deliver! Lots of fish caught today, mostly all on topwater, with some vicious strikes. Hard to beat wading in a cool cr...

Fly Fishing at Bogue Chitto State Park - Finally Found Some White Crappie!
มุมมอง 3135 หลายเดือนก่อน
Drug the kayak out to Bogue Chitto State Park, had heard reports of crappie being caught there, as well as the potential for chain pickerel and stocked trout. Ended up catching a couple nice white crappie, a couple largemouth, had a hit from a rainbow (i think), but no signs of pickerel. Music by Mike Gutterman

Thanks again buddy for posting this :)
Just got back from Arkansas, and it was a blast on the White River.
Awesome!! I’d love to make it up there some day, looks like you found some nice ones!
What's your rod and reel setup
8wt rod and Clouser minnows, kept it simple!
Those are my stomping grounds!!! I gotta ask why the trolling motor on the stern? Thanks!
It’s my buddy’s boat, he can move it to the bow if needed, but for fly fishing purposes it’s nice to keep the bow clear
What part of alabama are you in. Lol let me know if youre taking another trip there. Ill join.
Carp don’t care about glue lol
louisiana will forever be home! where i was born and raised... hurricane ida put me in Mississippi.. ive never used a fly rod but there's a gar tournament coming up soon can you help me???
That will get the job done :)
Oh, man thats a spotted bass killer for sure
Oh yeah, I’ve caught some good ones on it
sweet.. starting to get hot.. is that chitto?
Sweet fly brother :)
Thanks!
What river was this? Looking to make a trip to the Ouachita mountains to fly fish soon!
I’ve caught smallmouth in almost all of the larger rivers (Caddo, Little Mo, Cossatot, Ouachita) and several of the tributaries. Anywhere should be good! My recommendation would be to check the water levels, if it just rained a lot and the big rivers are high, try a creek or tributary, if it’s been dry try one of the main rivers. Good luck!
awesome :) be sure to go check out living waters fly fishing video on Rio Grande Cichlids! its really good :)
Nice job, Randy!!
POV : Ur himmy
Muito bom trabalho
nice video and some fine fish. Is that an ECHO river glass rod?
It’s the Echo Bad Ass Glass 6wt, enough backbone to throw a heavy crawfish fly but limber enough to still have fun with some sunfish!
🤝🙌✌
Thank you for uploading this :)
Sweet fly
I live in south Louisiana and am strictly catch and release. What creek is that? I love creek stomping.
Holy mackerel! Nice crappie, beautiful lake too. Congrats on getting some White Crappie!
Ive been binge watching your videos. What flys are you throwing?
In the saltwater a Clouser Minnow is hard to beat! Sometimes a kwan style shrimp
@downsouthflyfishing4931 what size? You really have me wanting to take my yak in the Mississippi marshes
Size 2 down to 6. You should try it, get back into some shallow water and see what’s out there!
Are you going to post the 19th meeting?
I didn’t record it unfortunately, still trying to figure out all the technology, hopefully next time I can get a recording
That longear got super ambitious. XD
They are aggressive! If they had bigger bigger mouths I’m sure I’d catch plenty on big streamers
Ahh yea, man you might fish more then me and thats saying something :) that camera attack should of been a slow motion action :)
Hoping spring starts soon! Then it’s on!
love the way you sculpted the head on that. Nice.
Nice. Now go catch one👌👌👌
Really nice and so beautiful there!
Curious how easy they are to find in San Pedro?! Great video! My girlfriend and I are going in May!
Yes, if you can find access to shallow water, you’ll see a bonefish eventually
Not unusual to see a few walking along the beach near San Pedro. I think those bones are tougher to catch than when you take a guide out into the backcountry, though.
Very true, I’ve mostly gone on boats with guides and caught tons each time, but if you are near water on a non fishing day bring a rod just in case!
hahahah love the fish
Couldn’t get him to bite!
What part of Louisiana is that in? looks like a place I have not been before lol
It’s the Pearl River Canal, basically an artificial oxbow of the Pearl River. The lower most section known as Lock 1 has some pretty clear water. Good kayak fishing!
Awesome tie! With deer season over, time to switch gears! What size wire do you use for the minis? I've seen guys use non metal cordage stuff. Also, no beads work well?
I just use 25 or 30 lb-test monofilament, no bead. Works great for these since there doesn’t need to be a huge gap between the 2 segments. Doesn’t foul that much, and when it does it’s usually due to a poor cast (never done that though ;) )
Beautiful fish! I haven't caught one in over twenty years. They look like fun with their fierce strikes.
They are fun, but it can be really hard to detect the strike sometimes. It’s like they pounce on it but then stop on a dime once they have it
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 ahhh, I see. I was thinking thrashers swimming right through the fly and spitting it out. Still sounds fun but I see know how you were damning the misses.
Occasionally you would feel them, but the one I caught I just happened to look down and the fish was on my fly out of nowhere
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 gotta love luck.
Thank your for sharing. Good stuff.
This way better than watching Kelly talk for an hour and a half
😂
No way dude Kelly the goat
@@chadleeper1 agreed but I can't do it every new pattern
Explanation helps the beginners, experienced don’t need to watch at all…
Im not much good with deer hair, although thats not a super technical spin. Veevus is tough for me and deer hair though.
Yeah these don’t need to be pretty, just fill out the rough shape, the less dense the better
Hey man great video, what’s the tool called you use to tie your knots around the eye for at the deer hair? That thing looks like a life saver.
I think that was just the back end of my bodkin, used as a half hitch tool. Definitely tricky to work around the hair
This place was sooo low when I went a month/few weeks ago. Half the water in your video. Glad we've gotten some rain.
Yeah it’s crazy how low the water got this year, lots of spots I used to fish were bone dry
If these have big enough hooks they would be absolutely deadly on tarpon…especially in black and purple
Would love to try that!
Again thank you for posting these.. maybe one day I can attend a darn meeting of the club :)
Come join us any time, or come by one of the tying nights, would love to have you there
Great inspirational presentation Robinson! I love the karma correlation with picking up trash makes the fish bite!...could be a slogan for a bumper sticker. Thanks Chris and Robinson for sharing your fishing experience. Congratulations on catching some target species!
Fine Fly Fishing at its best.. nice area they have jacked up the Comite in central area..
We need a few days of rain to flush out all the gunk
Hard to beat a good day on the water! What flies do you think are most effective for bass in LA?
They usually pounce on a big streamer if you slap it down close to cover. I like the Flugenzombie or mini-Dungeon. The Master Splinter mouse has been my go to topwater this year, it has definitely produced as well!
Nice casts under those tree limbs...I thought for sure a bigger fish under there.
Thanks, yeah the fish weren’t very active that day, hot temps and drought conditions all summer as you know. Ready for fall
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 Gotcha. Does fall extend into November for creek fishing? I've got knee surgery early October but should be able to get it wet by the first week of November...
Oh yeah, I’ve fished into late November, just depends on the year, and then picks back up in late February/early March
@@downsouthflyfishing4931Good to know. Thanks for sharing that encouraging information.
Nice variety of species! I like the way you do a short video of the fish. Great way to get good photos of them.
Thanks! That’s a little trick I figured out, if you have an iPhone and “Live Photos” is on, you can convert the photo to a short video clip afterwards
@@downsouthflyfishing4931 I'll have to check out my Android and see if I can do that too. Often tricky getting the little fishes to pose for a still shot.
Great presentation! If those in pursuit of Trout are Trout Bums, I've got to say you guys with 12 species are Bream Bums! Thanks for promoting this program. I know it has motivated me to get out and make adventures for some of the species I've entered. I really want to go to some other areas for those hard to find ones. I hope to one day. Oh, Crappie aren't so easy for everyone. They are a bane to my existence. I've only caught three or four in public water here in the New Orleans area over the last ten years; I must not be holding my tongue right. Thanks! Kirk
I have not once caught a Crappie when I’ve gone out targeting them! Gotta pretend I’m fishing for something else before they’ll bite!
Nice fly
Thanks much!
Nice casting. Excellent colors on the fish.
Thanks, yeah they get pretty when the water clears up
I just recently learned about these fish. Very cool video!
Spunky little guys, sadly their home waters are under threat, so treat them with respect if you happen upon any
Great fly .
Thanks Jim!
