I had standby on the forecastle for mooring and reporting. This is the most insane I have ever been experiencing. Two airfighter sqadrons in formation followed us from seabuoy, ashore it was estimated app 130 000 (!!!) people to welcom the ship. I could have written so much about the crossing and the staying in Le Havre....the best I have ever been on in my life as a sailor.

What memories I have of this cruise. I have a picture of the Norway sailing ,by the World Trade Center. You could buy them onboard. I remember that day well. The cruise of a llifetime. We had a cabin on Sky Deck with 8 foot windows, Great!

I sailed on this cruise. It was wonderful, the cruise of a lifetime. I don't remember any free posters, but there were vendors onboard with ocean liner memorabilia. I remember getting absolutely drenched by the water from the fire boats. When we were walking around La Havre people would come up and ask "Norway?" and we would say yes. The ship was on the front of the La Havre newspaper that morning. I have all of the menus. After the ship was scrapped I was able to buy the room number from my cabin and the little metal medallion that was on each door with an anchor and "Norway." I sailed on her about seven times. Wonderful ship...so graceful on the water.

Wasn't the Sun Princess the ship that was in a Columbo tv episode called "Troubled Waters"? It sure looks like the exact same ship as I saw in that tv movie. Just watched that movie today on a BluRay dvd so it is fresh on my mind.......

Anyone else take her on her southern crossing to Marseille? Miami, St. Maartin, Maderia, Malaga, Marseille.

I recall the captain coming on the loudspeaker that morning announcing what a glorious day it was. We were running 25 knots full speed on the route the ship was designed for. We had 40 foot swells but it was just a sea kindly motion and he reminded us how fortunate we were to be on the Norway in these seas than the newer ships where we would really feel it.

I was onboard with my family as well. The sailing the next evening was even more spectacular. They said over 200,000 people turned out and with fireworks there was not a dry eye onboard. Made virtually every crossing that Norway did.

The aft stairs at 8:47:50 look like they lead right off the stern! What a shame this legend is now little more than heaps of scrap metal.

was that a lower deck in the original ship, or one of the suitcase decks hideously added in the '80s?

i was on that ship when the bolier room expolded i was 3 turning 4 back in 2003 it was freakie oh by the way i like the stern shot at the end

great retrospective of this beautiful lady. sadly, i missed my chance to sail on her. what a beautiful testament to the reteo-glam/art-deco era, she is sorely missed.

oh dear, I spent a year and a half working on this ship 94 -96 and just hearing the ships horn has made me cry! Alot of memories on the old blue pig.

I'm glad you caught as much as you could. I did on the 3 cruises I managed to get on her. I have 4 albums on Webshots community of the 3 trips we'd been on her. And yes, these new ships will never compare to the NORWAY.
