Nice overlook with one foot in NC and one in SC. And lots of beautiful streams and waterfalls. It's unfortunate the natural beauty is spoiled sometimes by all that graffiti. Still had great views.

Well done! I've been in SC for a year and a half now and I love going to Lewis Ocean Bays. One of the first outdoor places I discovered here. It's supposed to have the state's highest concentration of bears.

Hi I'm new to backpacking. I noticed you mentioned you had to use the CNOC bag because it's still water. Why can't you use the bag that comes with the Sawyer for still water??

I remember last year, all those crunchy leafs.

Cant beat Walmart poles $23 if you are just starting out. Dont know why I did not try poles years ago.

That was a big tree the beaver was cutting through! Staying with your hiking partner, especially if it's your mom, is very admirable. Hope your able to get back out there in the fall. I'd offer to go with you but we have a trip planned to Michigan for our anniversary.

Great comparisons! That ZPacks backpack has a lot going for it. I recently "upgraded" from a Gregory backpack to a ULA Circuit...it is lighter and has some great features, but I miss some of the features my Gregory pack has. Hopefully the 1 lb weight savings and ultra fabric durability and water resistance is worth it!

Awesome 2nd day on the FHT! Really liked the devotion. We are studying John 17 and Jesus prayer for his disciples. He asked the Father to keep them from the evil and says the world hath hated them. It reminded me of John 3:16 and that despite the worlds hatred, God loves the world and sent Jesus that whoever would believe, would be saved. Lots of water on this trail!

Great first day from Oconee to your tent site! The Foothills was very well maintained when Monk and I hiked it in March 2022. The blowdowns must have been from recent storms. It can be hard to find good trees to hang food from in some spots.

I was set on a Kelty 50 because it was on sale during memorial day weekend, but it was back ordered so I bought the Ascend. Both arrived at the same time and I returned the Kelty. Way better deal.

Great review of both backpacks! I have love for my older traditional packs, but for longer hikes I go for the ultralight stuff. Have you ever tried Hyperlite Mountain Gear products?
