Walking Miami Beach on New Year's Eve
We live in Miami Beach. We often walk around at night. We had no plans for the evening. So we decided to wander along the boardwalk in the couple hours leading up to midnight to watch people ring in the new year. When we reached the famed Fontainebleau hotel we realized that this is where the main action in Mid Beach was. After filming the crowd from beachside on the boardwalk we went around front and let ourselves in. So many beautiful people and endless action! Afterward we went back out and completed a circuit around the hotel. We had a half hour before the end of the year. So we decided to walk along the beach and capture the ad hoc party happening out there. So many people having fun with fireworks. More than a few people horsing around and literally playing with fire.
Most of the walking tours I have done include long stretches of not much happening as we go from one hotspot to another. This wasn't like that. Almost every moment I captured there was something interesting going on. I decided to include the entire one and a half hour walk starting as we got near Fontainebleau through midnight on the beach. I didn't even add music. Sorry the audio is very rough because it's unedited. But it does give a flavor of the ocean of music and activity going on all around us.
I hope you all had a fun New Year's Eve. If you were somewhere cold and longing to be somewhere warm, this is a treat for you. Cheers. And best wishes for your 2023.

Heavy surf - Fallout from Hurricane Ian (4K)
มุมมอง 3362 ปีที่แล้ว
Over the course of the day the surf has gotten even heavier. As Ian is blowing right over Charleston SC, its effects are felt as far south as Miami Beach here in the form of this unusual surf. The water is officially closed. Nobody is going swimming with that heavy riptide, jellyfish and other hazards in the water. But I was foolish enough to go walking at the edge of it. It's amazing how it on...
Heavy surf on Miami Beach from Hurricane Ian (4K)
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Yesterday (Wednesday 9/29) was a very calm weather day in Miami Beach. But this morning I woke up and saw this. This looks to my eye about 3 times heavier than normal surf. You would normally start seeing waves breaking and white foam around 100 feet offshore. Now you can see some waves cresting upwards of a mile out at sea as they hit reefs or sandbars out there. And the nearby waves are break...
Hurricane Ian - Day 3 (9/28/2022) - Morning (4K)
มุมมอง 1452 ปีที่แล้ว
I took some footage of Miami Beach from the roof, boardwalk, and even in the surf. It's very windy this morning. Enough that my legs were getting sandblasted on the beach. But there's no rain to speak of yet.
Hurricane Ian's effect on Miami Beach - 9/27/2022 near 11pm (4K)

The rain stopped but the wind kept blustering. I thought it would be interesting to try to film what it looks like out there. The video doesn't do justice to how strong the wind is. Florida's west coast must be getting hammered tonight!

This is just raw footage. I was rambling on with some observations. But the wind drowned that out. Nothing that important though. I started filming about 10 minutes after the dark clouds rolled in. The rain is just starting here.
Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach (4K)
มุมมอง 8912 ปีที่แล้ว
We recently discovered Miami Beach's own memorial to and museum of the victims and survivors of the Holocaust during WWII. After many months of leaving this channel on hold I was moved to do another video once I saw the place. There's so much to say on the entire topic. But I opted to keep this look brief and to reflect a little on my impressions of this incredible memorial. A quick note. I ref...
Shots fired at Monarc at Met (4K)

Here is an unplanned "day in the Miami life" video. This was the second time Kira and I were drawn out of our downtown apartment building by a fire alarm. It gradually became apparent that it was something a little more interesting than that. This is a simple look at the process of exiting and some of the view from outside a high rise building surrounded by its residents and large numbers of em...
Miami life at Monarc at Met

Have you wondered what it's like living in Downtown Miami? Let me show you where Kira and I live. Monarc at Met is a very new (2016) apartment building in the center of it all. We rent a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit on a high floor. I give a tour of the building and our unit. I even show you the view from the middle of the pool. I talk about how much rent and incidentals cost us. Street walking on Brickell Avenue (4K)

Miami has some very beautiful streets. Brickell Avenue has some amazing gardening right in its wide median. Here's a 15-minute walk down along the median for an up close and personal look at the greenery. And I didn't even die once in the process. Like the music? มุมมอง 5483 ปีที่แล้ว
This beautiful spot of well preserved jungle punctuates the boundary between the slick skyscrapers of downtown Brickell and the posh suburbs in Brickell's southern leg. I shot a continuous half hour walk through the Garden Center and the main trail through the hammock. Come watch us brave some very large spiders and a rather laid back trash panda. Walking in the rain at night in downtown Miami (4K)
Wow. I lived in Miami suburbs in the 80s. Will have to walk this. Great tip in reducing the fps rate at night. Beautiful photography with a full moon as a bonus. Are bikes allowed?
TY. It's been quite a while since we were there. I don't recall seeing bikes on that path though. I think that would be pretty hazardous. We did see plenty of rollerbladers. I think I even recall seeing signs indicate that scooters were not allowed on the walkway.
Thanks. It does look very walkable.
GREAT JOB PLEASE KEEP SHARING. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
When i was a 14 year old kid, in Miami, I remember my school going on a fieldtrip here. It is very good designed scultures but also depressing. Only 4 years before I was in the safety patrol/hall monitor program in elementary school and we took a 3 day trip to DC on a tourguide and one of the places was DC's holocaust museum and remember seeing such disturbing pictures. I look back and these things give me a reason to strongly stand against fascism
Only planted native plants and I think only installed local coral rock benches.
great video.....Are people nice on the Island Brickell. I don't speak any Spanish. I am trying to buy a condo in next few months there> Some people say people are rude in Miami and some people say they are nice. I think prices will go up there in the next 5 years with the Mandarin Oriental coming up, The night time view of the condos on the otherside of the bay is He had verry trendy music back then.
I thing people in the area are generally nice overall. But since I am not yet conversant in Spanish, I found it was more standoffish for that reason alone. So many languages spoken in the area. And no obvious way to tell which someone speaks until they open their mouth. Brickell and Brickell Key are very affluent neighborhoods. That's where you're likely to find the highest concentration in the downtown area of English speakers. Kira and I live in Jacksonville now. Much friendlier overall. And certainly more comfortable for English-only speakers. The views are as spectacular in person as they seem in this video. The real estate in that area is quite expensive. But I would not count on it always going up in prices. We may well see a housing crash hit even Miami soon.
@@JimCarnicelli Lordy..............Thanks for responding! Now I am confused Il love the waterviews from the Island. They need to speak English. Billionaires and millionaires are moving there from these big companies. Thanks for responding. 🌴
Yes we ate at the restaurant with the big pillars at 24:30 indoor outdoor restaurant 2 story’s live music on the water.
This is the best video of Bayside. I am going this summer to Miami and I would definitely go to Bayside marketplace.
I never been to Miami I want to go badly
Thanks for providing the video some of us are looking for! Looking forward to returning to Miami after 12 years!
Great footage! What was the place with the huge brown columns where they were valet parking before you went down that ramp?
Thank you. That's Icon Brickell. A stunningly large and beautiful building with condo, hotel, clubs, and restaurants. We like to joke about the potato head columns. www.iconbrickellmiamicondos.com/
Have we been able to uncover who this mystery man is? See his almost every day
No luck yet. I tried twice. He said something I couldn't hear. And then moved on without staying to chat. See my pinned comment for a link to the only clue I've gotten yet. A short video saying his name is "Alejo". I did quite a bit of searching and still found nothing with that clue added. If you get a chance to, stop by and ask his name and let us know. It's such a tantalizing mystery. I don't live downtown anymore.
Thank you for the excellent tour of Bayside Park. Although I have been to Bayside Marketplace and the Intercontinental Hotel, I never really walked the park. I really appreciate your information on the four Isamu Noguchi designed works in the park. It is sad that two of the Noguchi works, the fountain and the laser sculpture, were in disrepair at the time of this video. I have no idea what the status is now, since I live outside of Miami. The 1985 New York Times article that you referenced here was a very interesting read. I can only imagine the political and popular opposition to removing the prominent white marble library building as required by Mr. Noguchi's vision for the park. One more interesting piece of Bayfront Park history that I cannot find any useful information on, is that in 1997, a Sister Park or Twinning Agreement was established between Miami's Bayfront Park and Sapporo, Japan's Moerenuma Park, that was also designed by Mr. Isamu Noguchi. The information about this international sister park agreement is almost nonexistent. Thank you for your well thought out and informative video.
My pleasure. I was a little surprised to find that TH-cam was full of walks through the park incidentally. Yet with almost no level of detail about any part of it. It's a park with a lot of history and yet very little of that is easily available online. I too was disappointed to find very little about Moerenuma Park. Cheers.
Heading there next week nice vid
I hope your visit is off to a great start. Cheers.

Awesome. Thank you for letting me know. The mystery of the dancing due remains! And I've added some links there too. Cheers!
It's a beautiful n unque park..I live down the block from it..I go eat lunch n read 3 times a week by the fish pond..I highly recommend it
Thanks this was helpful
The Olympia theater could definitely be a place where concerts and events can happen and be the anchor that Flagler street could have. The Olympus theater should get a world renown marquee with beautiful neon lights. Flagler street definitely needs more shops and neon lights. Bring excitement to the street
The Metromover, looks awesome right up there.
We went for a walk during COVID for the first time when visiting Miami and I wanted to take this random bridge in front of us. The others I was with wanted to come back but I convinced them… We ended up in this Key and didn’t realize we had one of the night walks ever. Today this video crossed my path and In overflowed with memories. 2020 wasn’t that bad at all.

Another outstanding video. Your channel will grow as more people find you.
Thank you again! I have made very little content since I made this video. New subscribers keep trickling in. I appreciate that. Hopefully I'll get back to it sometime soon. Cheers.

Great video. Good job showing the environment along the river.
Thank you! Fun times.
Lol I was in Miami the other week and he’s still there dancing. New dance moves though. Then a week later he was near my hotel, just by the lift bridge dancing lol
I'm delighted that he doesn't give up. Let me know if you ever catch his name, website, or other identifying info! I've had no luck hearing him over the music.
This guy is cool
Almost every store you show in this video was in Costa Rica's biggest mall (which is not saying much) ten years ago. A concrete jungle, very few consumers/pedestrians among acres of concrete and glass. Zero art, Zero nature, Zero waterfalls or fountains. < sterile > Devoid of human feel, touch, emotion. < cold >
I assume your critiques are of the Costa Rica mall. Probably of City Mall Alajuela. I looked it up. It does look simpler and more sterile. Not bad to me. But Brickell City Center is much more stylish and interesting in design to me. And I quite enjoy all the little gardens and ponds they mixed in. Plus the surprisingly comfortable indoor/outdoor space. As for the stores. Kira and I didn't shop there, really. We ate at some of the restaurants. Bought a confection or two. We rarely do our shopping in malls.
@@MiamiRevealed No, that's not the Mall; Mall de Flores (they changed the name I think) is much bigger AND in Heredia -- but is very middle class, no high end stores. For a high end mall in CR (so to speak), would refer you to the one in Escazu by the autopista/hospital at the foot of the mountain -- Multiplaza - almost EVERY store I saw in the video was in Multiplaza TEN YEARS AGO! Of course, Panama City - Albritton Mall is "the standard" - an upper middle class HUGE mall equal to anything in the USA for the most part. Dubai et cetera is waaaay above USA - Under Nancy Pelosi, America has degenrated into a has been for the most part imo. Bogota (north side of town) and the # of 5 diamond restaurants in Bogota FAR outnumber LA or NY as of a decade ago. Not sure about now.
@@MiamiRevealed Alajuela is very middle class; Escazu, Santa Ana is the upper crust of CR. Most expensive real estate in the Central Valley is in Santa Ana. Escazu has it's fair share but has colder climate. Multiplaza is the place to go or Heredia to hang with the fantastic middle class of CR. Nice people all around there.
I have been there… I cried like a baby. Very impressive. Such a pity you didn’t record the children chore singing bitterly as you enter the corridor, where the names of all those horror places are written on the walls. And that little flame at the beginning of it, which burns eternally… It moved me so much, I was already in tears as I made it through the tunnel and faced the rising hand. My impression of it was more like representing the living, and not the dead. “WE ARE STILL HERE”, those contorted bodies seemed to scream. “…the Jews culture still exists, you can’t kill us all, we will return from the underground back to life, and the whole world will know our faith! We are stronger than you!”. I went outside feeling beaten, crying bitterly. A woman asked me if I was ok, and I told her “No. I am not. My people did all this atrocities”. She gave me a hug and we cried together for a while. I hope that people will forget how to hate, and nothing like that will ever happen again. But as I write this down, Russia attacked Ukraine… People never learn 😩 We need more memorials like this one on earth.
I'm going to subscribe because I thought this video was well edited and you have a nice voice. Please do more run downs of future projects and walk throughs. Thanks
Thank you! I appreciate that. I've largely taken this last year off. Other than some hurricane coverage and New Year's Eve. But we're moving soon. And I just might pick it up again. Cheers.
@@MiamiRevealed well good to hear you're back at it. I think the world is watching Miami and I know there are a ton of projects going on all across sthe city thats how I found your channel. So thanks in advance for your future reporting, can't wait to see real on the ground coverage. I think there is more than enough content to create about Miami like there is in New York. Cheers!
Who remembers when Shania Twain did her Winter Break Special there in 2998 With Elton John and the Backstreet Boys?
Great video. Love Miami.
Coool you have uploaded a video. Loved it.. :D
Oh year we got content again! Lets keep it up all 2023! Besides Brickell what other neighborhood do you recommend????
Thanks. It's a long one. It may take a few hours before TH-cam renders the high-def version of this video. You might want to wait to watch it. I'm not sure what to tell you. My videos reflect a lot of what we experienced when living downtown. We live in Mid Beach now. We're certainly enjoying living out here. I miss Brickell and the broader downtown area sometimes too. Lots to see going North from there all along the waterfront.
Since Jim didn’t reply, will give you some hints : Miami Beach south of fifth Miami Mid Beach Midtown.
@@shawncoopermarurirealtor2669: Thanks for the realtor's eye view. I don't feel like I have particularly useful advice for viewers. I suppose you can get some sense of some areas from the videos I've taken along the way.
@@JimCarnicelli You certainly covered a lot of ground, including Miami Beach, some of Brickell's best spots and downtown along Biscayne Bay walkway. Great music, too.
@@shawncoopermarurirealtor2669: Thank you much. We really just scratched the surface while we lived downtown. Cheers.
Thank you for these videos. You place the camera at a great angle as you walk to catch the new high rises in background with all the pedestrian and other human activity in low rise and foreground. Makes the city come alive without my actually being there. I am a Miami native, pretty much, but currently living in Chicago. I'll be in MIA last week of January, though, helping a friend move there... I would love to run into you downtown. If you're interested in my showing you some local spots off the beaten path, let me know. Kudos! Great, relaxing videos!
Renovations have come and gone over the years. No matter what they do its still a depressed area. The only viable resolve is to raise most the old buildings and replace with office/residential high rises. Your editorial comments are on target.
i love the music of this vid,,,soo beautiful
Thank you so much. People have widely varying tastes. I appreciate hearing from anyone who enjoys the music, as it's easy to overlook the efforts. I put a lot of work into gathering playlists for these videos from sources I pay for rights to. Hi Jim, thanks for sharing videos from Miami. By the way, you have a nice voice and a very intelligent way of speaking. Appearance is beautiful when the person is sincere.
Aww. Thank you. 🙂
Hi.! Great video, would you happen to be able to make a video of the studio appartments Monarc has for rent fully furnished? Also, does your rent include services as Internet, electric, water? or how does it work if you have to contract these by yourself? Thanks !
Thank you. We enjoyed living there for a year. We did have to pay for electricity and internet. I think we had free WiFi, but we were not going to rely on that. Hot water was included. Generally speaking, these complexes have exclusive contracts with single providers of power, phone, cable, and internet services. You don’t often have alternatives. We don’t live downtown anymore. And I have largely put this channel on hold for now. I recommend searching TH-cam for videos taken here by realtors over the years. Happy hunting.
I learned to surf in North Miami beach and Surfside in the late 80s and 1990 and I've never seen swells that big and strong like that before. Awesome
Really? I figured this must happen from time to time. Did you see the two tiny dots out there trying to surf these? They are dwarfed by those waves. If you want to see what it looked like from beach level, check out my next video. Where I unintentionally get soaked by waves surging up to the dunes.
