PAX DEI: Proving Ground - 'Going it Alone' Episode 5 "Crafting and Carpentry Adventures"
In the latest Pax Dei adventure, Lada embarks on a mission to enhance her carpentry skills to craft triangular foundation pieces for her plot near the lake. Throughout the day, she crafts various items like a wooden shelf and a wicker basket, humorously noting the odd placement of her new wall shelf. Lada also works on creating a simple bed, requiring her to gather flax for linen cloth. Her journey involves hunting for resources, crafting new tools, and engaging in combat with feral hogs to gather leather. Despite the challenges, Lada makes significant progress, setting up new crafting stations like a spinning wheel and a tanning rack, and is well on her way to achieving her carpentry goals with a cozy and functional base taking shape.

Wait lol, 1:11 How did you place chests and a post on land that isn't designated as yours yet? I have to eyeball and set a plot first before laying anything on the ground. Where did you settle - region / location?
You are correct: you have to set the plot first, set the post in place, release the plot, when in 'Place Plot' mode position the cursor on the top of the post, the place it again. I did all those things prior to doing this video -- th-cam.com/video/Juj4RF3U1kg/w-d-xo.html We are in Langres, Inis Gallia, Apollo; from the Petra Dei, look due East across the lake; we are on the highest cliff.
Thanks for streaming this
My pleasure! If I don't miss my guess, you are the Tavern near the Petra Dei in Langres?
@twooldguyz don't think so. We're Nyx - RP - Ancien - Armanhac Kingdom of Eryndor, about 40ish players.
Ah...well, we have a 'Tavern' who is building a pub right next to the Petra Dei. =0)
OK. You talk about height and making it go up a little so its above ground, but you don't say how you do that. You say "up a couple clicks". Click what? I tried rolling the mouse wheel, up/down arrows, pgup/pgdn. HOW???
Oh, I must have failed to say "<Alt> + scrollwheel" Sorry about that. Scrollwheel alone rotates; <Alt> + scrollwheel elevates.
Very much the same with me - Pong in the 70's, Intellivision, Atari, Playstation, Wii, Computer - minecraft, Valheim, Pax Dei etc........
Well...you fit right in! =0)
So amazing lol
Thank you! Glad you found us.
It just blows my mind, at some of the construction jobs in game. I have talents, but one of them isn't construction in game. lol sometimes smaller is better!
Ya. I am a "do the simplest thing first that works, then extend".
How are Icons on HUD and items colored?
Oh, boy...that video was recorded long before the latest version of Space Engineers, and I have been out of the game for a while. I do know a couple folks from our community who may be able to answer that -- lemme see if they will chime in...
We used a number of quality of life mods during this iteration of the server including this one, called Colorful Icons.
Thanks @suckish9237
I did this once accidentally. No idea how though. Lol
Ah...once know you, a Jedi will you be
"Going at it alone" 😂😂 thats this game in a nutshell. Devs are so retarded they are killing the playerbase patch after patch. People come in and rebuild, see its fcked up more than before and leave.
Hmm, Circle to rectangle. Looking good!!
Thank you! Ya, for building the replica of the restaurant, we definitely need the rectangular foundation.
Those pesky Fir Branch thingy's, those are the real pain. The one way they found to jam up our inventory when there is no use for those at this time. Can't wait for deconstruction so we can get materials from the materials lol.
Well, you will love the update deployed yesterday. Those Silver Fir Branches are now GONE!....GONE!...gone.....
Keep your resin, it has new use in fletching. You will require loads of the stuff if you want to level that particular skill. Kept on chucking on the ground till i discovered its use.
Wow! Good to know. A couple days ago the thought popped into my head, "resin may become significant", so I started stocking it away again.
Another great, informative video!
Thanks, @siraulu1 ! Thanks for allowing me to build on your plot. =0) I am enjoying working on your place with you, as payment.
I was under the impression you're a North American resident. If so, does the Asia server have a decent ping rate?
I am, and it does. I am in the Pacific time zone. So far I have not experienced poor performance from any of the regions -- I play on all three.
@twooldguyz oh, neat! I'll keep that in mind for the next wipe. The NA server is very crowded 😅
It it indeed. Our area is a bit less crowded, but quite a bit busier than the Selene was.
I wish I could afford more than one plot
Ya, it does help. I know the Pax Dei EA packages from Mainframe are on sale now, if that helps.
@twooldguyz unfortunately it's not in the budget at the moment I will just have to maximize the space of my 1 plot
@@twooldguyz any advice you could give me would be appreciated
Game advice? As you are getting started? There are likely many things we could guide you in. It would be easiest to do that in-game. On which shard are you playing?
@twooldguyz I'm playing on Apollo
Nice Video guys. Looks a little different now. The Fly-by gave a great perspective, not only of layouts but also how different builds work with-in such layouts. 🖖
lol, How?
I hesitate sharing that knowledge -- you seem a bit old to start the training. It might lead to you going to the dark side. =0)
When it tells you "not your plot" for building, try holding left shift (no snap) and just slightly moving the piece a LITTLE closer to the inside of the plot. Its a decent work around
I often forget to consider that option...that would have made a difference. I usually avoid doing that, but it can help when doing the finish work. In most games like this, shifting off a snap point can later lead to things failing to align properly and maintain stability.
You're doing basically the same thing I have but if you start the floors at the bottom and include vertical support posts at the corners of the innermost squares, you shouldn't have so many issues with pieces dropping out.
Good insight! I do put in a bit more support in the next video, and now in Proving Grounds I do quite a bit more in adding more of that type of support. Ideally I like to have a little "clutter" like that in the build, but the higher you go, the more of it you need.
Big Bob Ross vibes here.
Hehe...love it.
Use a small foundation to get to half a square, maybe?
If you are referring to the dead spot in the middle of the four plots, rotating blocks into that area will certainly close it up a bit. It isn't as usable as you would like, but that might work.
Thank you for the video.
Certainly! Glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing work! Did you draw up a blueprint for this? lol After the wipe, I may get creative with angles and geometry but I will need my brother's (Rofar) help as he is an Engineer. We all will hook up soon. I am an old guy!
Rofar has told us about you! I do not have you aligned with anyone yet for who to pair with. If you ARE able to join us in the morning, we will get you set up. Looking forward to meeting you!
@@twooldguyz Yes, I am currently nestled next to Rofar until wipe tomorrow. I am currently in Texas (For Times sake) My brief background. I am 60 years old and 100% Disabled Navy Vet, Special Weapons Special Warfare. I am home most days as I cannot work. so basically, I have all time in the world. I could not get on this morning due to doctors appts for my wife. Tomorrow,, I will be able to get on after the wipe. I am looking forward to meeting you guys as well!!
Love your work. Question. How did you unlock the stone pillar?
Glad you enjoy our videos! I believe the stone pillar unlocks at level 8 ( paxdei.gaming.tools/recipes/recipe_building_piece_pillar_foundation )
If you offset the plots in a grid, the deadspace will be gone. Think of a spreadsheet. Line 1 is column a and b. If you start line 2 at the intersection of a+b and the next plot at the intersection of b+c, there will be no deadspace. It won't be an overall square, obviously, but no deadspaces. Hopefully this makes sense and helps. Good video. Cheers.
Well...we tried several things like that on our current location, and nothing worked. We have now practiced several times laying down the 'honeycomb' 7-plot sections at scale, resetting the centers, and it has worked very well.
Saludos desde Chile
Greetings...and welcome!
Nice tutorial! Very helpful!
Thank you! and glad to hear. We will see how useful it is on November 5, eh?
great info
Thank you. Hope you find it helpful.
I have questions about plot changes that MAY happen after Nov 5th.
Questions concerning plot placement? If so, I would be curious to know if you read or heard anything along those lines...
@@twooldguyz Yeah, we know if you place 4 plots together where they SHOULD meet in a perfect 4 corners. They don't. But form a small, dead space in the middle of all 4 plots. This dead space is unclaimed, meaning you can't build in it. I find this unacceptable and should be fixed.
@@LesterSuggs Ya, it would be nice if they would square up well. I do understand the challenges, though. From the software perspective, I can see the benefits successfully deliver based on how it works, and the challenge of trying to maintain those benefits while addressing the issue. After playing more with the "center plot with six surrounding" approach, I have come to appreciate it more, and am not so concerned with "squaring up" the plots any more. I do have one more video on this topic coming soon, which shows a perfectly round central plot with 6 identical surrounding plots, all with maximum geometric area, and NO GAPS!
@@twooldguyz We found a similar approach when we founded our current village. We used 2 plots in the center and surrounded them with 8.
@@LesterSuggs Ah! Now that is something I did NOT try.
Nice, just found you guys, we are in Kerys also, looking forward to the wipe, hoping it revives the game somewhat! 🙂 PS I am 72 retired computer guy and 4 younger brothers in our clan, all old time gamers

Ingamesounds are too high and you voice is to low. Hard to understand you sometimes. :S
Thank you for the feedback. I do try to keep the background low, but may have failed in my editing this time. I have the raw files, so will see if I can replace with an improved version.
Well, I was hoping to be able to upload an improved version, but I would have to delete this one (forever) and upload it as a new video. For those having similar experience, I apologize. This shouldn't be an issue going forward.
Your miners will never line up with the world grid since the nodes themselves aren't aligned. That's just one of the many little oddities in the game that mess with my engineer brain.
You are right, and something I noticed as soon as I had access to foundations. I still try to line them up as best I can, to aid in clean conveyors. ;0)

Kinda surprising to see after a month of me being a slave at work, there's no comments. Gonna watch a few of these tonight and vegetate. I hope things are going well for you.
Great to hear from you, my friend! You have been missed. We still have the dedicated server available.
And here's my first contribution. Portable miners are handy at the beginning of the game. Place multiples down on the node, so when you go to collect they are all full.
Good point. I do not anticipate needing them long, so I started with just what I needed at the moment. We will see if that turns out a wise choice, or whether I should have put more down.
The birds (and Mr Bean, space tick, whatever you call the big guy) are just for ambience. The bird looks like a flower to catch insects.
Well, I am a little disappointed. I was hoping the birds had some significance. As for the "tick", I actually got an achievement from it. =0)
