First and Foremost I congratulate you for your enthusiasm. I know you really really want to play and have music and perfection in your dreams. There is no doubt in my mind that you willl most definitely succeed. Now you mentioned about tuning your drum kit. Well let me tell you this. I have been playing for 67 plays years. You tune your drums to your liking what you like. Do not let any one dictate to you that YOU MUST Tune your snare your bass drum your tom toms a certain way. You are the person that DRIVES the Wheel behind your drum set. To quote the God of Drumming Buddy Rich never never never take the heads off of the bottom of the drums. For example some guys and girls take the from heads off of their bass drum and stick pillows in it and put masking tape on their heads to muffle the drums. Once true story Gene was doing a recording session with Buddy and buddy saw gene putting tape on his bass drum. Buddy screamed and said are you crazy Gene? Let the drums sound. just like when you take the front head off of the bass drum. ???? Would you buy a new car and strip the hood of the car??? That is insane. You really don't need the tape on the cymbals. Let them ring. also when you say boxy I will tell you something else. besides jazz drumming I marched in a championship drum line for many years. Today they want the Formica top table sound??? I hate that sound. the old snare sound of a cool slightly ringing sound is still the way to go. I studied Gene and Buddy for many years. The answers I chose were G K B R B R G K B R and B R. I met Buddy seven times. Gene Twice. Talked to the Both of them. Those Two were the Giants of Drumming. I would also suggest listening to Max Roach Philly Joe Jones Louie Bellson Joe Morello and Ed Shaunessey along with Bernard Purdie Shelley Manne. I learned more by listening to Jazz Drummers than from rudiment Books. Also learn to play and memorize both Jim Chapin Books for Independence. also learn to use Brushes. keep drumming and I KNOW you will do well.

I try to commit suicide. Then get angry and try to destroy the world. Then ususlly am forced to move on in life. I also work on other limbs and read or watch videos about what every i am injured from. Also should try to rehab the muscles in those areas that failed to protect u and will support it
