Had there been a better plot development, this would have turned into one of the best sci-fi anime of that time and Elaine would have become such an iconic female lead.

I still have Genocyber VHS. Back in the day Manga had a 3 tape set called the CyberPunk collection. AD Police, Cyber City OEDO 808 and Genocyber.

Any help out there identifying this old anime that I’m about to describe??? It was late 90s early 2000s when I seen it on Cartoon Network here in the US. All I remember is a dude was driving a motorcycle and at some point I think it was only a one wheel motorcycle. And the ending scene or towards the end the protagonist (after escaping a police force), who had flying crafts chasing him and shooting at him, is in a girls apartment and kissed her as a towel drops off of one of them. That’s all I’ve got. But I just rmbr it stood out in my childhood and I’ve never been able to find it since because any time I’ve googled about it all it wants to come up with is Akira, and IT IS NOT AKIRA.

The aircraft carrier part was quite "nasty" First time i saw it was in 2009 (Teen) so i was no longer a Kid but it reminded me of the movie "Virus" Which that one..was my SPOOKY movie from when I was a kid! xD

I actually had nightmares from the '80 Batman animated series, because of the episode where the disfigured actor tries to steal the body creme he uses to fix his face, he gets found out and forced to eat the cream.

For me, the show was a clip in Robot Carnival where an old toy maker sees the ghost of a robot girl toy he made that became sentient and was destroyed because of her advances towards him. The scene is of her walking towards him from a dusty plain and she slowly starts breaking apart with oil dripping down her leg. The whole episode is beautifully drawn and scored making it all the more eerie.

had the vhs's it was okay. inyuashiki on the other hand 10/10, all that death with 0 motive? chills and it's a new series. this just had wicked art going for it even if it was gore. so yeah 100% pussy on that one.

Genocyber is magnificent. The soundtrack is wonderful. It's pure magic.

Yeah, I remember when I was buying Manga Entertainment VHS tapes in the 90s. This was always one of the films previewed. And yeah, when I finally saw it in 2000 or so it was intense.

i think they were referring to the 'mind shadow' as a 'universe' as a hyperbolic metaphor. It's that there's a higher space overlaying reality where our cognitions live. Calling them shadows is a little reductive because they are merely a descriptor for how we perceive things that exist in that 'cognitive plane' of reality... like The Metaverse in Persona. Vajra is just the energy there. It's analogous to The Force or magic or whatever. Mental Energy. The Mandala is a tool they constructed to amplify the ability of a person's mind to influence the conditions of the cognitive plane and the energy that exists there.

Genocyber isn't an organism from another dimension. It is a manmade god that is the result of experiments meant to imbue a baby with infinite psychic power that allow them to reshape the world around them. Think Gene Grey/The Pheonix. Problem is said power was focused on someone with twins. One was deformed with a useless body that had to be amputated. The other was animalistic. The two psyches eventually fused, when Elain forcibly took over Diane's body... thus combinding their psyches and powers... resulting in Genocyber... a cyborg with infinite psychic power. What's more said power is being wielded by an inherently unstable little girl with absolutely NO inhibitions. So yeah... She's basically the ultimate combination of The Guyver, Hulk, and X-Men's Phoenix.

I watch Gwnocyber every Haloween and keep discovering/getting remind of stuff. Always worried about getting Genocyber ending song stuck in my head, it's so good

Genocyber is actually a complete rip off of devilman, and there were a lot of rip offs at the time. Don't believe me? Then just watch devilman crybaby, it's the closest to the 70s manga.

I used to have this on DVD…it’s honestly an interesting concept and pretty cool metaphorical anime. But yeah it’s a really depressing story in places. I managed to find the manga online and it’s even more bare bones although the art is really good

90s / 80s anime OVA at its best, we will never get anime amazing as that era ever again. The ending of the second arc on the ship, where Mira is seeing genocyber in the sky, yelling that her baby became an angel, one of the most disturbing and haunting endings ever. knowing that thing was the cause of her actual child's demise. what a masterpiece. To answer your question, the twins are sensitive and can tap into Chi, Chakra or Vajra. The evil professor killed their father in a fire "accident" he caused and abducted their mother who was pregnant with the twins. Because he wanted control of the twins who were sensitive to Vajra from the Mandala device their father was using on them in the womb. The genocyber is Vajra power manifested in our reality, it's Elain's absolute rage at a cruel world to take revenge manifested into a monstrosity with absolute power. She fused with the battle suit and became genocyber. The Vajranoid is a different mechanical path to use Vajra/Chakra/Chi, the scientist was a student of Elain's father, which is why he was heavy into Vajra research. It's an AI, which is sensitive to Vajra, but became corrupted with the power of Vajra because the AI has no soul. Unfortunately gaining part of the genocyber, allowed the AI to fuse mechanical and biological together. I always thought the satellite was partly built out of the left over Vajranoid. It's almost seems like the mutated corpse of the Vajranoid on the lens. Which ties all three stories together. So its not accurate that the genocyber is a beast from a different dimension, it's Elain's rage which was manifested into a monster with her strong abilities to harness Vajra. It was created by Elain. It's why the genocyber looks different the last time we see it, its the blind lady's rage that Elain lent her power to, to take revenge on a cruel world. That part in the first OVA where genocyber rips the bio cyborg in half is still one of the best animated sequences ever. I love the OVA series, the last entry always felt too disconnected from the main story but at least it ties up the entire saga.
