LEICHHARDT RIVER TO ADELS GROVE
If free camping is your thing this road affords many opportunities to do so. The Leichardt River and the Gregory River both offer riverside camping that is worthy of being the destination not just a stopover. Adels grove although damaged by floods recently, still is one of my favourite camping places and deserves to be on every travelers bucket list.

NORMANTON TO LEICHHARDT RIVER
Burke and Wills crossed this massive country from South to North in 1860 and along the way set up many camps mainly on creeks or rivers. The most Northern of which" Camp 119" falls just short of their destination, The gulf Of Carpentaria. The Savannah Way heads west from Normanton and too crosses many rivers that find their way to The Gulf. Even though technology today has made life a lot easie...
KARUMBA AND KARUMBA POINT
The Barramundi is right up there on every anglers wish list and Karumba on the mouth of the Norman River is the place to find them. Karumba is all about fishing, with both its commercial enterprises and the recreational tourist industry thriving due to a well managed restocking programme intent on maintaining this valuable resource.
COBBOLD GORGE The Boat Trip
After viewing the gorge through the polished glass bridge we find ourselves decending between the tall cliffs arriving back to our starting point. This time we depart by boat silently gliding through the gorge feeling privileged to be in this absolutely stunning place.
COBBOLD GORGE (The Walk)
When travelling between Cairns and Karumba about midway just out of Georgetown is Cobbold Gorge. This place is incredible, great facilities, camping and guided tours of the gorge. The tours consist of two parts, the walk and the boat trip. In this video we experience the walking trail to the top and look down at natures wonder through a purposely created glass bridge,
THE UNDARA LAVA TUBES
In this series I am venturing along the Savannah Way from Cairns to Darwin. My first stop is the Undara Lava Tubes. These are a rare geological phenomenon formed by a subterranean lava flow whereby the outer crust hardens and the centre still flowing , empties leaving a cave.
THE TOP END
The very top of Australia is on every four wheel drive enthusiasts bucket list incuding mine. In this case both the journey and the destination presented its fair share of challenges. Once the tip had been conquered I ventured on, via Somerset to the five beaches track. An experience I will never forget
PUNSAND BAY AND WW II AIRCRAFT DISASTERS
During WW II any threat to Australia it was believed, would come from the north, therefore, the top of our country was heavily fortified. Air traffic was intense, no more so than at the main point of focus, the airstrip. With so much activity concentrated in the same airspace things were bound to go wrong , and they did. Today we can still see the evidence of some of those aircraft that did not...
FRUIT BAT FALLS TO PUNSAND BAY
A few K's back down the Old Telegraph Track from Eliot Falls and also on the Eliot River is Fruit Bat Falls.Truly another great place to wash the dust off before heading north again towards the Jardine River. The ferry, during the dry season runs 24/7, allowing access to this increadible and most northern part of our country.
TWIN ELIOT FALLS
Leaving Weipa and taking the short cut across to Batavia Downs brings me back on to the Telegraph Road and heading north for Bramwell Junction. Here the Old Telegraph Track begins for those daring enough to take it. Where as I take the Developmental Road initially rejoining the Old Tele Track for the last 25 ks into the magnificent Eliot Twin Falls
MAPOON
The fight between progress and traditional ways is what has shaped Mapoon today. Mining in the area is a billion dollar industry and today the big companys such as Rio Tinto work with the traditional owners of the land in a partnership designed to benifit both interests. It has not always been this way, history shows us just how rough the road to mutual respect can be.
MUSGRAVE TO WEIPA
Technical issues in this day and age are part of everyday life. In remote areas simple problems can soon escalate into serious ones. I will need to find power on a regular basis. With this in mind, I head to Weipa, one of the largest towns on the west coast of Cape York.
LAKE FIELD NATIONAL PARK
Lakefield National Park is a bush camping paradise. To get there I head from Cooktown via Battle Camp Road, traverse shallow river crossings and ingest my fair share of red dust. This is so off grid even the satellites can't find you. I love it.

Thanks for sharing. I fell in love with Winton when visiting last August. Longreach was pretty cool, too, with the Stockman's Hall of Fame
good
This was very cool very informative. Thank you. Very enjoyable video. Wow what a journey.
Hope you dont mind the comments but wow stunning footage interesting location. Thank you for showing us. Your leaving a wonderful legacy for all by documenting this.
Beautiful clear footage, drone footage excellent too. Really enjoyable video. We really are living in a beautiful part of the world.
Love your video visit to Longreach and especially the Cobb & Co ride. The Station Store was one of my fave encounters when I trekked around Australia on my visit home from Canada last Aug/Sept. Lovely to see all the fun things they sell, esp. the toy emus. This is where I found and bought my own - Eduardo the Emotional Support Emu - who flew on over a dozen flights with me - QANTAS flight attendants made a fuss of him, too. LOL Thank you for posting this video which I will watch again and again to remember....
Hey Dodgy, thanks for your time compiling this. Keep them coming.
Impressively filmed and edited.
