Flooded ground has made finding pheasants difficult lately. Today they found a nicely placed pheasant on slightly higher ground. The flooded river can be seen in the background. Bella was a touch unsteady once I had passed her (something to work on). She redeemed herself when, at distance, she sat to the flush!

Bonnie finds sent in the thick cover alongside the river. Soon joineed by Bella, the pair find the quarry has moved . A pair of hen pheasants were found some 25mt away and flushed.

The pheasant was found by Bella in Blackberry/Brambles. Cover was quite thick and full of thorns. After the initial point, Bonnie flushed three more pheasants.

Hunting the old walled garden usually produces some quarry. Today was no exception. Six pheasants were flushed, surprisingly all males. The dogs were allowed to clear their ground, there were no more!

Bella was the first 'on point' here. To her left and ahead is a water filled ditch. Bella appears to be a little sticky. I suspect the pheasant had moved from the original point and Bella was reluctant to go in to flush without being sure of its position. . Bonnie arriving later, pointed the pheasants new position.

They are so focused! It is about to be bear hunting season here across the pond so there will be lots of dogs on the mountain. Meanwhile my farm dogs do hunt squirrels - which we want. Squirrels chew the irrigation lines. I only wish that they could hunt without digging bomb craters in the orchard. Mine are all 3 mixed breeds American mastiff x retriever [adopted from a shelter], Pitbull x mastiff [adopted from a client at the clinic], and GSD x cane corso [given away at the Tractor Supply store]. They are good dogs for what we need them to do...keep pests down and protection.
wonderful. Where does your setter come from? Which breeder? best regards from Belgium

(Google translate!) Sono uguali, ma Bonnie ha più esperienza.
Complimenti per la correttezza!, Visto che sono due razze piuttosto difficili da tenere al consenso, e tra l'altro tengono bene anche la ferma.
Beautiful walk. Thank you for sharing.
Well I’m glad you didn’t shoot they weren’t steady
Do Gordon set / sit when on scent or it that just a myth ?
Gordons were trained to lay down when they pointed to allow the passage of nets over them. Bonnie was trained to 'drop' to a lay down position and still does when she is 'reporting'. She has always been reluctant to do so during normal hunt, point and flush and I decided it wasn't a problem ----she does her job OK.
Awesome Girl

Bracco Italiano - never heard about it. Beautiful dog.
Dog is busting birds. Not good might be young with no training. Give me my GSP- nothing will compete with a GSP In the field
Hi Jerry, thanks for your comment. Yes, the dog was 15months old. However I respectfully wish to point out that the dog was not at fault here. She was sent in on a silent whistle, but as you can see from the flush point, the game had moved from the original point and she is visibly unsure when asked to flush. I have looked for your videos of you working your GSP and alas I could find none. So I look forward to seeing how it should be done! GSP's are great, but they are not the dog for me.
@@everhopefulalways4390 Hey brother I’m sorry I offended you my bad- your dog is beautiful I was puffing my chest lol- my dog fuks up all the time- I should have not made that comment I know nothing about that breed. Forgive me brother
@@jerryj4985 No problem.
th-cam.com/video/mQ1MdgHBot8/w-d-xo.html When your dog points just let their tails flag, dog are dogs and they wag their tails and that’s something we should not stop
Regarding tail wagging, I have done nothing to encourage or discourage my dogs tail wagging. These are working dogs, as long as they are finding and pointing game, I have no concern about what they are doing with their tail. Perhaps you are more used to dealing with show dogs?
@@everhopefulalways4390 I need help trying to get hunters on you to let their dogs tail wag when they point
@@familyguycontent7397 I have always found that when the dog has found the exact place of the game, then they freeze 'on point' ie motionless. If your dog is not wagging its tail when 'on point', do not worry about it!
@@everhopefulalways4390 I understand that, But Please, will you still help
@@familyguycontent7397 I am not sure what it is you are actually asking. Do you want to train your dog to wag its tail when 'on point'?
Chi è l allevatore . Complimenti brava e bella cagna

Fantastic action to watch. Brilliant video 👏👏👏
Utterly absolutely wonderful. My 6 year old Gordon does this so well I could watch him forever.
They are fascinating to watch. I trained a Great Pyrenees puppy who was born with goats but had an "iffy" past with stealing eggs and bothering geese on nests, to being a fully dependable livestock dog with all poultry. Also, our 6 year old GSxLR who had never been around any poultry is also 100% reliable. Neither steal eggs or give so much as an off look to the birds. But the amount of control and obedience the hunting dogs have, wow! Please keep making videos, I like to see what you are up to. Take care
Beautiful dog. :) I have a shepherd mix and a Great Pyrenees.
When I first started with GSP when I was 11 I used my dog thus. My pals at the time had Jack Russel's and two Alsatians. These dogs quickly learnt to follow the GSP and as your GWP did circle the area my GSP was pointing like in bramble or thick cover. It meant we caught the occasional bird or rabbit and at that age it was great fun. I did go on to train my next few dogs to circle the original point and block the bird after reading an article in a pointing book. This gave me better shots and let me flush the way I wanted, I have not done this method since the 80's as I train to flush the way the dog is set. Nice quality in your video I would like to hear some sound though.
+Riffmuir Kennels Thanks for your comments. The GWP was first on point. Myself and the Gordon were some 50 yards away. The younger Gordon has quickly learnt what the beeper sound means, and also the poise of the GWP! I rather suspect that the cock had moved a few yards from the original point, and then moved back when the GWP circled round it----the fence and the Gordon then came into play. I had been quietly telling the Gordon to hold, but when it ended up trapped by the fence and the bramble, it was to much for her! Sound----wind noise from the mobile phone mic was rather annoying. Thanks again.
