People are completely ignorant about tinnitus, it's a terrifying thing. Science knows almost nothing about this, it is absurd that there is so little research.

It boggles my mind that your doctors didn't give you any warning about what to expect after surgery, and how to deal with it. Thank you for sharing your story so others know what they might expect, and I'm glad that you've been able to adjust to your new normal and even come to see positive aspects of the experience.

ENT's, GP's, medical practitioners and people who have never experienced tinnitus of any type will never understand what we go through on a daily basis. Thank you for posting this. I believe one of the reasons why tinnitus is never addressed in a wider scale in the medical and both in the public and private sector is mainly due to the fact that people never recognize the opportunities associated with the cure of this condition, but rather they see chaos and confusion. If medical experts ( in which I have completely lost faith in ) are unable to find a cure for tinnitus, then this is an opportunity for entrepreneurs, scientists and us sufferers to come together to innovate and find a solution.

I had a moderate Traumatic Brain Injury on July 22nd 2022 caused by a kick to the head by our horse and have now got a terrible case of tinnitus in which is constant and loud. I had an audiologist at Amplifon put me onto getting a hearing aid as the hearing is nearly gone in the right ear where I have tinnitus. Yes the hearing aid helps me hear some what, but it doesn't stop the loud tinnitus noise! Rehab for brain injury hasn't helped and neurosurgens have no bloody idea about tinnitus. My appointment with a neurologist at John Hunter Hospital yesterday was a total waste of time. I am desparate for help.

The source of tinnitus are often doctors!!! They hand out dangerous drugs but never say THING about ototoxic drugs. Ototoxic drugs created by big pharma,,- they profit on the drugs but don't give a shit if the drug damages lives- they are some of the most crooked people that have ruined people's lives but doctors never say anything about ototoxic drugs. They support the drug companies not the patients

Before I had my cochlear implant put in, I had tinnitus quite a bit in both ears. But now with the implant I don’t get it much. It’s been one of those life time issues for me being a born deaf person. The suggestion I can make, would be to send pamphlets out to health clinics and gps, hospital ent departments and audiologist Australia wide. Other organisations set up for donations, maybe this could be an avenue. A sausage sizzle at bunnings would be awesome for Tinnitus Australia and Sound fair together to raise awareness. I would certainly buy a snag or two.

Yes, that has been the most annoying part of my life since I turned 21 up until NDIS was put in play. Having to pay thousands for hearing aids just to hear. I am fortunate enough to have the parents I have, my father paid for the last hearing aid I needed before NDIS. While I was unemployed in my early 20’s hearing aids were free through centre links health care card system with hearing australia but since being employed I have had to pay myself. Now that I have a cochlear implant, it is considered a medical device where as hearing aids aren’t, I had the implant put in free through the SCIC Sydney Cochlear Implant clinic.. Batteries are an ongoing cost to and repairs needed if break down occurs.

I was a hospital employee for 7 years in Alice Springs, lip reading is an essential tool for deaf and hoh people, the doctors and nurses would wear masks during some procedures making it hard to understand them.
