I refused to watch DS9 for a number of reasons when it originally aired in syndication. One of the biggest reasons was that I thought it was a boring concept: members of Starfleet stuck on a space station?! @@ronaldgarrison8478 I could see that, but I always felt that when a Klingon screams after a Klingon warrior dies to warn the gates of Stovokor of the warrior’s arrival, that that was the equivalent of a Klingon crying.

    This was it. This was what needed to be done to save the show. But they didn't realise it. After so many episodes, we had seen all the main characters interact with each other in any conceivable situation. What was needed was more characters. That's why Ensign Ro was immediately a fan favourite. If they had made these Lower Decks characters - especially the waiter - recurring characters, the show would have improved markedly. But alas, that would have meant less screentime for the main characters (as in this episode), and that was a no-go. And so TNG died. _

      Even though Capt Kirk is the foundation, TNG is my favorite iteration. Having said that, I don’t think it’s fair at all to suggest DS9 and Voyager weren’t impactful. If nothing else, those series gave us our first black and female LEAD captains.

    • @SN-cb9xj
      @SN-cb9xj หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrQstorm3476 Well, although I did enjoy Sisko and Janeway, I don't really care about box checking. The best thing is that those characters were integrated so naturally that it never FELT like box checking. Also, I never said that the other shows were awful, but TNG had the best characters and writing. Again, for me, the Mt. Everest peak of Star Trek was TNG.

  • @sleepinggorilla

    Now a days it’s all about character arcs. TNG understood character “refinement”. The characters did not change much, but they gradually became better, deeper versions.

    Here is my only comment about this future interpretation of humans, We have 3 Starfleet officers who go through years of training and risk their lives for the betterment of humankind. This is contrast to a civilian which serves drinks for a living in a post scarcity society. One is not like the other. How is the bartender expanding human society or holding up those ideals of humans striving for the best. What get an education? Learn something new? Nah I will just serve drinks for the rest of my life and enjoy the holodecks go to love StarFleet.

    The most tragic story of all the supporting characters. And I hate the TNG producers and scriptwriters for it. Because every time I watch TNG and then get to seasons 5 and 7, I get angry again about how those idiots treated the character Sito Jaxa. Every time I watch it, I cry like a waterfall because I find her story so damn tragic and I suspect that she had what it takes to become captain of the USS Voyager. There was so much potential in this character and they didn't use it. In retrospect, I could shake my fist at many decisions made by producers and other idiots who worked behind the camera on TV series and feature films.

    The subtle nods of each lower deck character taking on a trait from their mentor. You could imagine Ogawas lines coming from Beverly, Taurik's lines coming from Data, Sam has that hint of self doubt you see in Riker when he is in private, and Ben has the emotional intelligence of Guinan in fabricating a pretext to tell Worf to join the group of mourners. And obviously Sito dies in battle in the best Klingon tradition.

    Amazing actress. Shannon Fill is talented and beautiful. I think she deserved the toughness she got and more but not death. What she did, being such a follower to Locarno and actually letting him coerce them into covering up Josh Albert's true cause of death she deserved banishment just as much as Locarno did. It's not fair Wesley kept having to pay for it most than most being set back a year when everyone kept advancing ahead of him and whatnot. Thats part of why I don't get how stupid fans can be sympathizing for this person who actively participated in covering up a death she was partially responsible for without remorse, until she had to start paying for it unavoidably. This is probably why that stupid kid who caused the boston bombing is still alive. Morons.

    • @thomashong2938
      @thomashong2938 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only one who deserved banishment was Locarno. It was all his idea, the risky stunt and the coverup. The others were guilty of blind loyalty and groupthink. Tim Watters led Red Squad to their deaths on board the Valiant. His bad decisions weren’t challenged by the others due to their groupthink and blind loyalty to him. Same thing on the Equinox. We’re morons and stupid fans because we liked Sito? We liked her because we liked Shannon.
