John Prestianni
John Prestianni - John has been a professional pianist, composer, dance accompanist and musical director in New York for over 20 years. He is an accompanist at several universities and schools, including NYU (Steinhart), American Theater Dance Workshop, and most recently LaGuardia High School, involved in both the dance and drama departments. He is also the Musical Director for the 'Kids Company' at the West Side YMCA for 8 seasons running.
As a composer: most recently 'The Golden Contender' and 'Pie Rats' for Brooklyn Childrens Theater, 'The Black Dahlia' at the York Theater in 2008, 'The Vaudevillian' at the Lark theater in 2005. A member of BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop (Advanced).

"Many years ago" is right. I played my VHS tape of this Irish party until the tape broke down. This happened over 20 years ago and it took until a few months ago that my not-very-successful search finally took me to TH-cam and this wonderful download of the concert itself. Thank you, Ian, for filling my home with such varied Irish treasures as Danny Boy, Don't Bother to Knock, and James Connolly. Éire go Brách!

Thank you for this. This was my fathers favorite tape and we listened to this all the time. As I wrote this, he is in his death bed with little time left but we are all here together listening to it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My God jimmy was brillant.
Jimmy was probably the most underestimated musicians of that era. The reason I know this is because my Dad John Healy grew up with him, and they played together for years . Dad and Jimmy are both gone to that Great Trad/Swing Band above. I've often heard of yarns ,stories about the days when they started out in Knockranny ,Keadue,. My father blowing his trumpet up the chimney as practice, when he came home from school, meeting his pal Jimmy to try out music that was totally alien to where they were raised. From there they went through a bit of a transition period, plying their trade along the way with the like's of Mick Wood's , Barney Mc Cormac's Band ..And then something else came along.. THE SAVOY SWING 7! The S.S.7 in my view were probably The most Talented band of their era , and coupled with their appearances with supporting the like's of Louise Armstrong , Johnny Cash Ackerbilk, Dutch Swing College Band, Kriss Krisstoffersen, Sid Phillips , Glen Cambell. Whilst other things had progressed ballroom dancing had declined , the rest is history.
