DO NOT mix it up with Kamikaze units were they used students and very badly trained youngsters to kill themselves.

MiG-29UB is just a training two-seater aircraft, without even a radar, LoL. That was some battle destroying a target that had no means of neither detecting nor fighting back at a true fourth generation Air Superiority Heavy Fighter Su-27. LMAO 🤣 I find this "engagement", difficult to believe it even occurred at all.

If no report of the mig crash or ejection could be confirmed by any means, didn't anybody thought of the possibility that the Mig-29 pilot actually landed back home even though damaged?

hard to believe that mig21 will execute ground mission. :) also MiG29UB is mainly a trainer, and thus explaining why her "former" trainer was in that plane, was training a pilot. so, for sure that MIG29UB was unarmed. so, that "extraordinary" pilot downed an unarmed school plane with her former instructor on it. way to go!!

i am from the air force i have been waiting for her legend to be told she is one extraordinary pilot and a symbol of heroic women's in Ethiopia

Let's take a moment to appreciate the GIANT BALLS these men showed to rescue their brother. The fact that the Berlin Wall fell just months later makes it even more badass - they took him to freedom instead of waiting for an uncertain future (no one predicted that the wall would fall).

There is considerable evidence that the problem with 77SQNs transition to Meteors was not so much the aircraft but the lack of a proper transition from propeller Mustangs to Meteor F8 jets which require a completely different approach to fighting. Managing the energy state of a propeller fighter is entirely different from a jet. The Meteor was no slouch and had the same Mcrit as the Me-262 that of M0.82. (the same as the Me-262) Meteor IVs had claimed the world air speed record of 616mph at sea level which represents Mach 0.81 in the bumpy, dense air down low, without showing any control issues. The F8 had a MCrit of M 0.82 and the MiG 0.92. At 35,000' this represents a difference of just 60mph-not an overwhelming advantage. If the Meteor could draw the MiG into a turning fight the MiGs poorer stability (as was discovered during testing of a captured example along with its relatively low MCrit for a swept wing fighter) and the control ineffectiveness that happened shortly after passing M 0.92, meant that the Meteors would likely have done much better given a proper work up. The Meteor had a lower wing loading (44 vs 49) giving better turn performance

Not a bad landing nose slightly too high for the turbulence you then have issues with stalling speeds but Lovely flat landing strip . Enjoy flying 🤗

I'm an old USAF fighter pilot, and I attended several reunions of the First Fighter Wing P-38 pilots in the 1970's, I combined their stories with Romanian ace Dan Vinzanty's story, which I found on the Internet. I made a video, "P-38s attack Ploesti WW II" for TH-cam and Facebook. It is also a major story in my book, "The Spirit of Attack". The IAR-80s got warning and were above the P-38s which came directly over the IAR-80's airfield. Attacking from above and with surprise, the IAR-80s won the battle. The American P-38 pilots did not agree with Dan Vinzanty's story. Dan Vinzanty told of 100 P-38s, but really engaged only one squadron of 12 P-38s and all P-38 losses were from that one squadron. The other P-38 squadrons were largely unaware of the IAR-80 attack. The surviving member of the 71st Fighter Squadron, which was shot to pieces, mis-identified the IAR-80s as German FW-190s. In the actual dogfight, the IAR-80s had altitude, surprise, and the advantage in numbers.

Very interesting story. One thing is certain, the filipino soldiers were true heroes in WWII. This story is about heroes in the air, but I think the entire Philippine Army made a huge sacrifice, many times unrecognized by the world. Just to say that I'm spanish, and I like very much to read those pilot's names that are very spanish.

In May 42 the Ki-43-I was only able to reach a maximum speed of 308 mph. Catching the Blenheim was even more remarkable with the less powerful fighters. The faster Ki-43-II only entered service in December 1942.
