Sri Aurobindo Society, Ranchi Branch operates from Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Near Nepal House Secretariat, Doranda, Ranchi. Founded on 29.10.1954 as Sri Aurobindo Study Circle by Prof Mathura Nath Banerjee and Janki Prasad, an Ashramite, in the presence of Swami Anirban, it used to function first from the house of Prof Banerjee at the Old Commissioner's compound, and then from Ma Anandmayee Ashram. In 1961 it was shifted to its present site and became a branch of Sri Aurobindo Society, Pondicherry, with
Divine Mother as its Executive President and the Guiding Force.
A hutment was first constructed. In 1993 a Dhyan Mandir was constructed. A Relic of Sri Aurobindo's mortal remains was enshrined on 2.8.1998. An office complex, called Creation, with rest house and library, a book sale counter called Samarpan, The Mother's Children Preparatory School, and The Mother's Preparatory School of Art, Dance and Music were gradually added. A bust of the Mother was installed outside on 21.2.2022.
