Where are you based
@@petermartin7971 Thank you for your comment I am in Surrey UK how can I help?
I used to use a settlement tank after my UV / Pressure filter to collect the black sludge - I now use a second filter. The UV is the only difference I can see in your set ups.
Thank you for your comment. Both setups are the same. They have 11 watt UV on them.
My neighbor had a fish pond very similar to this one. We had an unusual cold snap for central Florida and the pond froze solid. When the ice started melting, the neighbor started bailing out what she thought were dead fish. She was shocked to find that as the fish warmed up, they came back to life.
Fish will find a way to stay alive.
Ignore the haters.
Hi there could be several possibilities as to what is causing it. How is the flow of your bog filter? Is it from down going up? Maybe the flow is not even or strong enough or there could be excess nitrates or phosphates. May do some water tests and see what you come up with. Pouring chemicals and algicides will only give a temporary solution. However, if you want to go that route then hydrogen peroxide will kill it off without harming the fish. For dosages, there are many videos on the topic on you tube. You could also try adding some nitrifying bacteria to help the bog mature faster and speed up the breakdown of nutrients. Alternatively a quick fix could be to raise the level of the gravel to slightly above the water level so that the algae cannot grow as it can only grow submerged in the water.
Hi, Thank you for your comments on this; I did water tests, and it was fine. The flow is from bottom to top, and all is even; the flow for the pond is just about right. Any higher, it would just look odd, I am not a fan of just dropping in chemicals, so I may go down the road of leveling up the gravel as I need a long-time fix for this; it gets fun sun all day so I may have to put a shade up some how to cut that down a bit.
Great little pond
@@lorraineskelding4923 thank you 😊
Nice to see that you roll up your electric cable each time you use the pump.
Thank you for your comment.
They are roach with red fins
Thank you for your input, but I still think they are Rudd
I’d clean it as well as possible, decrease light exposure and increase water flow. You may want to try a blue green algae treatment for Cyanobacteria like chemiclean.
Thank you for your comment. I have cleaned it and covered it over for now. It's getting a bit late in the year to add algae treatment as they don't work under 10c, and in the UK, we are coming into winter.
I would highly recommend sending a message to Ozponds. Kev is amazing and always replys to comments. Look him up on TH-cam for yourself. Just finished building a 5000 lt bog for my Koi pond but only 6 weeks in so hoping I don't get the same problem. Good luck.
Sir, please may I suggest that there is a difference in the nitrates or phosphates between the two bog gardens. Is there a chance that a bird is using the affected bog garden as a bath or toilet maybe ? A cover over that garden for a few weeks may reveal a difference. I think it is spread by spores which can be released when the algae is torn so, maybe once it has been manually removed, a dose of any anti-algae treatment to kill the spores ? It is all I can think of - sorry. If it is what I think it is, it will not go green - it is made to be black (or red)
Thank you, and I will give that a go.
I don't think its dead green algae. It is almost certainly Audouinella and it is terrible to get rid of, its like bitumen, manual removal and treatment of the cleaned water is the only way forward. As the guy above has said its probably introduced by birds (or squirrels). Good luck, please share your results 👍
@Kat-kv7fo thank you for that. I will give it a go and let you know.
Sir, with huge respect, may I please ask why you go to the expense of Potassium Permanganate cleaning of filter boxes that are to be reused ? Bleach has a far greater effect which; with rinsing and exposure to air / light, will have completely disappeared over 24/48 hours ?
Thank you for your comment. Why did I use Potassium Permanganate and not the beach? I have an open packet of PP, and I don't like the smell of bleach. That's the easy answer.
6 legs in total 3 front and 3 rear should be fine with a basic frame on top for the roof. I would put a 5°+ slope on the roof down towards your neighbour's garden with a gutter connecting to a water butt. Your front legs will be fine where you were saying in the video but i would suggest extending the roof past the front legs to reduce the chance of leaves blowing over the front of the roof. Also, put a gutter brush in the gutter so the leaves don't block it. Put some perspex between the roof and border fence so leaves don't get in and natural light can get in.
Also at the front u could use retractable netting, I've seen someone selling them on Etsy ( not cheap ! ) or bamboo blinds could be nice but won't last as long ( but could be replaced multiple times for the cost of the Etsy netting )
@@kerrycollins723 Thank you for this. It's a big help. I was going to slop the roof into my garden, gutting along the front and netting the front so I could just roll it back up.
Mosquitoes net is fine
I have my pond under a huge oak. I just cannot take the thought of covering the pond. My take on it is to make sure the filtrering system can cope with the debree and clean it daily.

Best of luck with the overflow
Thanks, I have it all working fine now.
Looks good, do you do any sort of algae treatment? My new pond has already got string algae… Was going to treat with some sort of algaecide but they all say the pond temp needs to be above 10 degrees, and with the weather like it is at the moment the pond is dropping below that
I use Cloverleaf Blanket Answer I try all the rest and this is still the best one if you ask me and I did mine back when it was 18/19 think that was 4 weeks back but can do a top-up later in the year if I need to plus I have a 25wat UV on that pond. Plus I took a sub on your channel can you sub back that would be great if you can.
Alfagrog is a very under rated media. Good job with heating and separating the pipe. Stay safe.
Looking good 👍 Couldn't you move the filter boxes to the back wall of the retail pond? Stay safe (Keith).
Its something to think about thanks for the feedback,
Looks good 👍 Stay safe (Keith).
I remember the first aquarium I bought had an under gravel filter in. Glad to see they're still being used. Stay safe (Keith).
Looks awesome! I like it. I think I would prefer a blade, maybe i’ll upgrade at some point. 🙌
thank you I have added a new skinner which I will show in an upcoming video.
