Nice music but what is the video about????????
The 5 W claim on the box is for the led, not the solar panel.
What mapping program do you use to work out your coverage?
Looks like 'Radio Mobile' by VE2DBE
What antenna did you use?
Another banger
Bonus night footage there, truly spectacular that entire region out to Suffolk and down to Iluka with weather. Thanks for all your content especially the Lora nodes/base stations that are self powered, would love to drop a few and record some useful data and even non useful. 👍🏼
I could watch this all day.
I really like the birds...they look happy. I wish my wife would let me have one. Thanks for the video.
nice job!
awesome. 🌚
You say you were impressed by the range… how much range did you get with the vehicle node?
Check it for parroty errors
Love your work! I have one in my car. The RAK uses so little power, I charge about once a week from the cars USB C socket. Great bluetooth range. Great bird too.
I'm a 56 yr old Aussie living in USA 21 yrs,... Just heard about Meshtastic the other day then stumbled on this video, well done ! I'm new into radio here & using GMRS but we have some frequencies which are free & unlicensed to use, also think it's cool that CB is still alive but this whole Meshtastic LoRa concept is pretty cool :) I'm wondering how much it cost you in AUD to set up both systems in the video.
Quite a few good US Meshtastic videos out there too. Always interesting to see what people are doing with Meshtastic in different countries. I don't know if we'll ever catch the UK though! The nodes in this video came in at almost $100 AUD. The solar panel and the enclosures are probably the most expensive things here. Batteries and the RAK or Raspberry Pi boards aren't too expensive. AliExpress has been a good place to go shopping for some of this stuff, but you'd probably get cheap solar panels and enclosures from Lowes or Home Depot over there. Rockland would be a one stop shop for everything meshtastic in the US. store.rokland.com/
Encouraging to see, while I'm trying to figure out why I can't make a 2.8 km link work in the middle of my city!
i bet its rf interference or your antenna isnt high enough and/or tuned to the correct band
@@GamingKing545 Antenna is good, homebuilt. My placement is not high, 19M ASL, but interestingly enough, in one direction along the long side of 500 m long park, I get contacts 5-10 km away, So it is definitely placement that is my issue, and possibly the other guy, he has his node under a wooden roof an I suspect there are too many nails tuned to 868 in it. Driving around town with my handheld, I never pick him up??
that's a nice view
Just ordered the wis block kit
Have you found them below US$45 ? It really annoys me they're 3x the price of a Heltec !
@@edwardfletcher7790 No if all goes well with wisblock I will get a Heltec
I built similar here in the UK and it's been rock solid and hasn't;t dropped below 85%, the RAK boards are seriously impressive on low power.
hey mate thanks for the video I am just about to hit buy on the wisblock starter kit
Very cool.
Can you send me that link to your solar panel and mount you used? Also…. What website is that that shows you your coverage?
👍for the bird and meshtastic info.
Oh I guess I should say, thank you!. Words cannot describe how deranged people making such content are, yes?. Or do you have a word for how deranged some people are?. So you are aware that children may view your song/content, yes?.
you don't worry about the sun making the cabin really hot and damaging the board or battery?
G'day did you check the maximum no or low load voltage of the solar panel? That Wisblock board has a 5.5v max input on the "solar" connector doesn't it? Nice conversion, I was looking at those lights last weekend for the exact same reason :-)
Nice work
How about a parts list of what where to buy
10 solar cells in series? that is perfect voltage for the Wisblock's inbuilt solar controller! Very nice spotted. Lidl or where did you get it?
Nice! I’m from the central west and am planning on setting up a network around the orana area 👍🏼 any tips would be appreciated 😁
Hope it doesn't get muggled 😂
Did you drill top and bottom condensation vents as it's wet as hell around here and I know from experience that moisture will build up inside that little enclosure.
The cable gland at the bottom isn't water tight, so any condensation that settles can exit through the hole.
When I saw lismore I was like WTF. Maybe this will spur me on to get a meshtastic radio
Do it mate - if you need a hand with setting up I'll happily help you. There's a few of us in Lismore with these radios now.
@@mattrixon i think next year i will start setting one up around the bonalbo tabulam drake region. being able to be notified of trip wires and such would be wild.
Nice work again! Where is that antenna from Matt?
Thanks! I purchased the antenna locally, but I imagine you could find it on AliExpress too: core-electronics.com.au/915mhz-lora-antenna-rp-sma-1-2-wave-2dbi.html
@@mattrixonHey mate, love what you're doing with LoRa & Meshtastic, but the music makes it REALLY difficult to enjoy watching your videos. Also have you considered starting a separate channel for these projects or mebbe a weather sub channel ? It's annoying how expensive the WisBlock is when an ESP based LoRa module is $25 😡 Are you messing around with Quansheng UVK5's too ?
Wow thanks for this..... Simple lovely 👊🌞🔋
Very nice.👍👨🎓.. I'm Going to use your Idea for the "Solar Charging Setup".. Not for Meshtastic.. (No one is in my area) I don't feel like being the only one.. (Will be for a TInyGS)
Sir.. not to alarm you... but there is a bird trying to Strategically Transfer Equipment To Alternative Locations (cit.) your node....
very nice :)
Doing the same with my truck, but using a bigger solar panel and case . Also I'm using a mounted antenna on the rail of the bed of the Truck.
i have the 868mhz version of that antenna,, works well. :)
I am busy with the same but then put the node on top of the car, using 2 Magnits 🧲
Hi, where did you purchase the Wareshare Lora Board From?
Thanx for sharing
Good video. I also like how your mains powered rooftop node has a red LED acting as an aircraft warning light 🙂
Definitely recommend "linerless rubber tape" or "mastic". We use it in the cellular industry to add extra protection over the N-Type Male connector. 🤜🤛 Great video!
Nice idea, I've got some here too - I should have put some tape over the connector before hauling myself up the hill!
Thanks I'll be keeping this in mind!
Great to see. I'm planning something similar, but I was going to run 12-24v up to the node from a DC plug pack indoors, and use a small DC-DC step down module in the box up on the antenna mount. You can buy a potted module with a USB-C connector 😍, which is what I use for remote raspberry Pi. I once tried running 5V to a raspberry Pi 3B along about 5m of 0.75mm² copper but it wouldn't work, due to the voltage drop and power required. I guess these use 150-300mA or so, maybe that's fine. 😁 Thanks for making the video!
I used 48V POE with a splitter at the end.
PS. My step down module died when the enclosure leaked. Turns out you can just run 5v along about 10m of 0.75mm². And the Heltec V3 runs just fine! I'll measure the voltage drop next time I go up. The heltec uses about 150mA, a lot less than a raspberry pi, so that's probably why it works.
I was thinking of powering my node with mains but decided to run it with 12 volts
Was in Byron for that flood but it was the surrounding areas that got smashed
Isn't the first one going to work as a massive lightning rod?
Is it any worse than having a TV aerial?
@@fraz3385 Well the antenna usually has a galvanic separator to prevent your TV from taking damage. Here you basically put your TV on a metal rod. :) I assume the rod itself is grounded so other than having to replace the electronics there shouldn't be any danger.
@@rakrul I'll have to read up on how amateur radio does it.
There's actually a quite a few trees around that are a bit higher than the node, so hopefully they attract any lightning away.
Can you send a link to that solar panel and solar mount please?
It's a generic solar panel made to power an outdoor CCTV usb camera: www.bunnings.com.au/orion-smart-5w-ip44-outdoor-solar-panel-for-security-cameras_p0261685
The Mount is included with the panel
Nice work Matt, where did you buy the Waveshare Board and the Pi from? Went through Lismore a couple of years ago, the ride in from the coast down through the hills was pretty crazy. Knew a few people affected by the floods, very sad, great use of Meshtastic.
Hey there! Thanks for your comment - I bought the Pi and Waveshare board from Core Electronics, an online electronic component shop.
