Solo ride ADV - AURSJØVEGEN Ep.8 - Can you tour on a Livewire?
In Episode 8, I continue my ride from Eidsvåg towards Eikesdalen. There I see nice weather ahead up the mountains, so I ride in the valley and up to Aursjøvegen mountain pass. I almost crashed my bike inside a wet tunnel, but managed to manage it well and did not get eaten by a troll inside the dark tunnel either. Up on the pass, I meet a group of Swedish ADV riders. There was some rain on top, but I managed to shake it off with my Livewire. After the mountain pass, I continue to ride to Oppdal, where I stay for the night at a camping site.
Can you tour on a Livewire? Livewire is an electric motorcycle and has a short range of 160-240 km (depending on speed, wind, temperature, and so on), and many people claim it is too difficult to tour on an electric. But with a good charging infrastructure, it should be possible, right? Join me on this tour to watch the beautiful scenery in Norway and ride with me over many epic and amazing mountain passes.

    The problem with these is this, nobody can hear you coming!! I've been walking trails, and suddenly, an electric scooter comes flying by. It could have hit me if I crossed over.

    • @xomoto
      @xomoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can agree if the bike is very silent, but I have to say that the Livewire is not as silent as you think. People can hear something coming. At slow speed, it is more quiet, but then it is not a danger for anyone. Another aspect is that the rider has to take responsibility because people who are walking may be deaf, listening to music with earplugs, and so on. Always adapt to the speed. I am a truck driver and know what responsibility I have in traffic, and I am aware of dangers like that.

      Did you watch the ride I did? It was poring down. You should know that this is dangerous because rain loosens rocks... The next day, several Swedish riders were hit by rocks. They were lucky. The road then got closed. Watch the end of the last episode, where I show a clip of this accident.

      @@xomoto Well. Trollstigen is pretty safe comparing to many other roads ive been on the past 40 years but i get it that it might be rocks falling but you were just unlucky. I have been on that road 25ish times in all weather you can imagine. It has taken me all from 15min to 2h to get from top to bottom or the other way around. Fog is the big hater though 🤬🤬 Hailstorm a few years ago was interesting as it fell almost 2 inches that was left on the road for almost 2h. Sadly Måbødalsvegen (old road to Vøringsfossen) has closed many years ago and that road madeTrollstigen feel like autobahn. That was scary for real, no matter the weather.

    • @xomoto
      @xomoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrMcKay66 It is an open question if Trollstigen is Norway's most dangerous road. I am sure other roads here have more accidents, and there are many roads in Norway that have been closed permanently because of rocks. In general, all roads with steep hills on the sides are dangerous when it rains heavily. I was not scared of riding in that rain, but I would avoid it if possible. If a big enough rock falls down because the rain loosens it, it may be a fatal hit. I would rate that as dangerous.

      @@xomoto I have seen many rocks fall thruout the years. I do miss the 80,s before most of the tunnels were built. Then it had to be over the mountain passes or a huge extra trip to get where you wanted to go. Old roads like Haukelifjell, Röldalsfjellet,Måbødalen, Stalheimskleiva and many more outstanding roads i have been privilaged to drive on. There are still some sections available today but most tourists take the tunnels now. But there are still some sweet little roads left and i do hope they keep them open, atleast until i cant drive anymore 😉😂. Mainstream tourists dont know what they are missing out on taking them tunnels. Good for the regular traffic but not for me. I like it narrow and a lil dangerous 😎

    Brilliant views thanks for sharing - all the more dramatic in bad weather. Interesting to hear the electric noise / whine compared to the traditional noise of an ICE bike. Whilst it must be quieter (which I'd be v happy with!) does the high pitched whine become annoying?

      Thanks; I'm glad you liked the video. After 25 years on all kinds of ICE bikes, I just wanted to ride something completely different. Not silience in speed, but at low speeds it gets close to silence. And that was something I wanted to experience in the mountains and on the gravel roads. At high speeds, it is more noisy, but this is the first time I have ridden for hours without earplugs. The wind noise at speeds you can't do much with.

    Got to be a "test" of the internet (a.k.a. scam for views). Any rider knows this is a peg scrape from leaning into the corner. It's clearly obvious from the camera when the rider adjusts from the ground contact. Fun fact, this is why motorcycle pegs have springs to give way if ground contact occurs, and there's nothing wrong from leaning hard into curves.

    kickstand or floorboard/peg scrape. The fact that you own a bike and didnt know this is mind boggling.

      Floorboards it is. The question was not for me, but for the viewers to educate about the Slim 😊

      If the stand was down the bike would shut down. It is a 2016 Softail Slim S with stock floorboards, one of the lowest Harley.

    Your kickstand or the bottom side of the bike???? You will see the scrape, should be at-least 2cm considering the sound.
