United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ธ.ค. 2019
My name is Dennis, Im a woodsman/deer hunter in the northeast United States. I enjoy camping, fishing hunting and general outdoors activities. in the workshop I craft everything from knives to a mini camper and lots in between, almost always reusing materials (like old butcher knives). i also restore and refinish old usable things. I truly hope you enjoy and follow along.
This channel will include solo camping, deer hunting, interesting things I see in nature, making knives and crafting my own gear. as well as summer spent in mini remote off grid camp.

Hi my friend checking in on you hope all is well😊
Hi my friend no vids where are you😮
nah. ive been staying inside pretty much of the time. this summer has been terrible for those little biting flies you cant see and the fruit flies. theyve been driving me crazy. even inside the house! i will be out in the next few weeks though. i believe it will cool down and they will die off. (keeping my fingers crossed.) its hunting season and not too much will prevent me this year. i had the hernia surgery last year in oct. so im hoping to get some recording done soon. i also decided to make fewer videos with some worthwhile content instead of just making videos. i hope things are good and your son is better. take care.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 thanks for letting me know, I was concerned about you. My son is doing better with treatment, still has a way to go. Looking forward to seeing you when those insects disappear ☺️
Moisture is a killer on campers. People store them on grass for most of the year and dampness will crawl up your “hole” Dennis! It gets everywhere!
not just dampness, but them darn rodents too!
Hey Dennis, Mr. Garry here from Newfoundland, Canada 🇨🇦 with a Full Watch and Full Support. Those campers are not made like they use to….lots of people are using floating or laminate flooring to repair campers/trailers!
thank you so much. ive been busy lately but will be posting soon. thank you for watching and take care. (this had some of that flooring down as well. im not sure how far im going with it yet. i understand they are built to be lightweight. my opinion is the floor should have been/be better though out though.)
Dennis That looks like a big project your tackling ! So much going on I missed this one, It will make an awesome porch or closed in camp, As long as you have a good fix on the roof should work great 👍,
i was thinking i would use the back part as a porch. cut the sides down and close the back in. im not so sure now. its not my style of camping, my only reason would be to have room for my grandsons to visit. im really thinking of making a new small sized rig by making a pattern on the sides and cutting them out. make a new small one for my trailer. we will see. reg. for a camper is different than a utility trailer and as long as i make it appear to be removable i can get away with the 20 bucks a year. LOL. anyway. i have more recorded but have not posted, ive been busy myself getting things done so all i have to do is hunt once it cools down a little. take care. thanks for watching my friend.
Looks good
thanks my friend. i invite you to view some of my other knife building videos i have done since then. hopefully progress in my skill level is evident. consider subscribing, its getting to be the season where i start spending time in my workshop where i have been making some improvements. i have plenty of projects planned. (after the deer hunting season of course) thanks for watching and take care.
Looks like a good new project. cant wait to see it complete. Hey, I'm back on the east coast and hoping to head up to NH sometime next week. it would be great to see you. talk to you soon.
hey so good to know your safe and sound. im giving this project up and quitting the you tube thing. its been such a pain in the ass with no satisfaction. the thing set so long its totally infested with mites and varmints. and, you know how ive felt about the promotion, this, ALGORYTHM bullshit works. did you go the distance? you are so strong to take on so many difficult challenges. im looking forward to hearing your story and where from here. take care bud. good thing you sent a message when you did, im about to delete everything and start a different channel, myrnden, LOL, just so i can comment.

Yes Dennis nice to be able to watch them as long as they don't get to brave ! Fur blanket that's to warm for summer lol, i trapped for years & we made bear boards for in front of the door & under the windows & never had a problem with them getting in, Spraying a little bleach around the outside of the cabin helps too,
honestly i have never shot a bear. been face to face but didnt end up needing to. i have shot and hit. damn hard to find. im always alone when hunting. anyway, im uncertain because i have not tried bear meat and as i grow older i have stopped shooting to just give it away. i have some experience with bears, some of my older vids have recorded encounters. i have come across sows with three cubs playing feet from me when hunting with a recurve. my hair was up on the neck. a sow was climbing up into my tree one afternoon, her cub stayed on the ground. i just got a piece of that one. i kind of wish you tube and these cameras were around when you and i were younger. we would have had some good videos. next video you will see my bear spike strips. hey, maybe we aught to invent something like that!?
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Yes younger days , When i think back i wonder how i got past 30 lol Black bear is good if there is a lot of berries in the area or grain fields the meat is a bit sweet very marbly & tender, Better than any beef I've eaten, If there is to many shallow rivers then they feed on fish they will taste like fish, Fall bear early Sept should be good eating, Steak on a fire:)

Hi my friend so good to see a vid from you. I've been stressed out my son has cancer. That bear was cute and I understand you didn't want to hurt him. I couldn't hardly hear you in this vid. I put my caption on 😊 until next time be safe. Japan
thank you. i feel so bad you and your son have to go through such a difficult time and i send my best wishes for recovery. i believe this bear is an adolescent male. these can be aggressive and relentless when they get something that interests them, until they learn who and who not to mess with. i will be careful dealing with this one. i apologize for the audio. i really dont have the greatest gear for making videos so sometimes my audio gives me troubles. one day i will get enough subscribers then youtube will pay a little and i can finally invest in better stuff. take care and hang in there.

ha ha ha. gotta get er done. no belt but i used to race 4 wheelers on the ice, i know how to hold tight without looking like it. i understand about the back, sometimes when i get off the mower my lower back is numb and tingling, sometimes it takes a minute or 2 to straighten up. i was recording something earlier in elapse and set the camera down. when i viewed the vid i found this. just thought id mix it up and post it. i havent had time to check your success fishing yet iv been up to my little camp for r&r. thank for watching bud. take care.

So why dont you just buy a blade and save your self a lot of work
i have bought many blades. i invite you to watch more of the videos posted on my channel. some of the mora blades were more expensive to buy than the whole mora knife! this mora was CHEAPER to buy than any blade (9 bucks) i could find and i also do not like the generic soul less appearance of a mora knife. the handle ergonomics were way uncomfortable for me and i wanted to try making a knife. i also have done this to show that it can be done and my method of doing it. thank you for watching and for your question. please view some of my other knife projects. take care.
That’s a nice XJ!
your too nice. its a good old buggy for living in the rust zone. i admit, of all the different vehicles i have had, i didnt know what i was missing. good basic reliable trans that i dont worry about getting stuck or scratched. there is another vid after i painted it deep forest green. take care.
Hi Dennis, thanks for sharing this work. I'm another novice, looking for ideas. I've made a couple of knives using Mora blades, and been pretty happy with the results. I've just used a drilled handle and a load of epoxy to fix the tang in place. I used a sandwich of oak, ash and thorn for the handle. I think I'll try to make the next one with the handle split along the knife, like yours, and once again I'll be using a Mora blade from a Robust like the one in this video. One thing I do a little different is to wrap the business end of the blade in lots of layers of masking tape while I'm working on the handle - it helps to prevent any little dings on the cutting part, and helps to stop me from needing to rush off for a sticking plaster half way through the assembly process! All the best from England - a happy workshop is a thing of wonder.
thank you for watching my friend. i use masking tape as well. i apply it and take it off and repeat this a lot. i find that it is better, at least for me, to be able to see as i am shaping the handle. i have had times where the angle of the handle in relationship to the blade comes out awkward looking if i cant see what is going on. especially when i get close to finishing. most times i can finish up with a stropping to clean the edge up. im glad you commented, i believe we all learn from each other. my way is not the only or even the best as someone will always find a better way. its just how i do it to make something a little different and unique to me. i do so many things that i mostly make or build these knives as a winter recreation. take care.
I found out not to over compress also. Expansion later on outdoors. Leaving some space for glue also.I slotted bottom, with a shim filler. Just a bit o fitnfinish to get it in, but close to touch slot. A lot for old hands with hickory flooring. 0pinol rounding out for finger space for nail nick was so easy. Softer wood by far!

I love making my own knives and sheaths.. been doing it for about 2 years now and have ripped quite a few blades out of moras… I do prefer buying the blanks because the factory models are just so well built, it’s becomes a pain, but when a client wants a stainless blade, I more often than not will get a complete mora and rip the handle off because the stainless blanks are like twice the price of the completed ones… I all around prefer the just get the Laurin blanks though as they are cheaper (12$) for a 105 mm, and are thicker, and 80crv2 is my preferred steel) great work
thanks for watching, subbing and the generous comment. i have made more knives using mora blades and have a few more videos i invite you to view. its all for practice for me and to encourage other novice builders that there are lots of variations to play with. i have taken apart many mora knives to build new ones and have bought blades over the internet as well. my latest is a mora robust i dissect and rebuild for a friend. video is coming soon. i would love to find a blade seller that i could trust and depend on, but im a little nervous because the mora blades are easy to get most anywhere. (some i cant find so i buy the knife, sometimes i find the knife cheaper than i can find the blade) the blades i have used, mora robust, classic 3 classic 2, no1 and no.2 blades. please view my other videos and see how my work has progressed over the last couple years. i dont have space and facilities to make blades so i just assemble my own after modifying to the way i want them. i did work my whole life in machining but i stay away from too much metal science, i think a lot of it is hype and sales. i like tool steel and most any high carbon steels without getting too much into the metallurgy. thanks again friend.
Thanks for taking the time to show your work and sharing your ideas with the Morakniv blade. Job well done!

did you have a title? if not how did you get 1 ?
good question. this box is not permanently attached to the trailer. remove 4 bolts and it is removable. therefore, it is still registered as a utility trailer. i do have a tractor supply title for a utility trailer from when i bought it. in fact, right now it is off the trailer and on a little crib i built so, 1 i could use the trailer for other things and 2 because it is in a great place to use as a hunting blind. last summer i bought a camper in need of a lot of repairs and will be doing a remodel series of videos coming soon. thanks for asking and watching, i invite you to view more if my videos and to sub for the upcoming summer projects.
It's a shame to have one of the most anatomical knife handles go bad. The mora handle is not like the Buck which is hollow inside without any application to the metal and without a drop of glue. Despite the low value of the mora it has two layers of plastic, the inner one is extremely hard and hugs the mouse tail very tightly so the knife is never going to move. The outer layer is softer for better comfort and to prevent the hand from slipping. Besides, mora blades are also sold in supermarkets at very low prices. Anyone who has tried removing the handle of a mora knows very well what I'm talking about. However, your knife turned out very nice and the handle quite anatomical.
thank you i think? i have never had a stock mora handle go bad. just about indestructible for that matter. i just think they are so generic and cheap looking that i would try to make it a little nicer to look at. i have removed many of their handles and im quite aware of the construction. i invite you to view some more of my videos on my builds. yes, i have bought many mora blades without handles but they are not that cheap considering what they are. there are cheaper, stronger, more beefy blades out there for the same price or less. also, i havent found a place (where i can understand the monetary value or language) where i can purchase ALL of the variety of blades produced by mora. an example is the #3 classic, ive had to buy the complete knife and remove the wood handle if i want a stronger blade to work with. thank you for watching and for the compliment. i am looking for carbon blades in the u.s. that are similar that i will work with in the future. take care.
It drives me nuts that the Mora knife blanks cost more than the frickin' knife. But that's all to common I guess. Shovel handles cost more than shovels.
are you in the u.s.? there are a couple companies that sell scandinavian style blades that are/maybe better than mora blades much less expensive. im going to try knives of the north to see if i can get a new source. i have made quite a few knives with mora blades and im looking for something a little beefier myself. yes, considering what they are mora blades are expensive, ive found only a few sizes available and what i have gotten the grinds are many times uneven making it difficult to fit a brass piece on the front. thanks for watching, take care my friend

First comment ❤
this is one of my first videos. not the best of my work. thanks for going back into my catalog of videos and i hope it shows i have a little experience and knowledge of the black bear. i have never shot one during hunting season and i wont unless its a big one. when i had my camp in the big woods i heard the coyotes every night, and they were close. ha,ha. thanks for viewing my old stuff, i believe it explains a lot about me and what i do.
Hey Dennis, 👋 are you from Maine? 😊
no bud. im born and raised in New Hampshire. lived here all my life.
The wooden handles are also beautiful art and a feast for the eyes!😳❤
Are the handles even wooden ?
@@roastntoast7550 yes. im a traditional kind of guy. the only thing i would like to do different is to stabilize my wood. this will make them look nicer and last longer. i will get there when i get a chance to make the equipment i need.
thanks bud.
